The hunt for Britain’s fashion design talent is on. Fashion Fringe at Convent Garden 2009 launched last night with a fabulous party hosted by Vanity Fair, Donatella Versace and Colin McDowell.

Back in her role as honorary chairperson, this year Donatella Versace is joined by Tamara Mellon who is on board to head up Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden Accessories 2009: a search for the top accessory designers the UK has to offer. The chosen one, will win a 6 month apprenticeship with Jimmy Choo.

On her latest position with the competition that’s helped launched the careers of William Tempest and Basso and Brooke, Tamara said:

“I am proud to support emerging British talent and bring the winner of the Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden Accessories award under the helm of the creative team at Jimmy Choo.

Entrants have a tough judging panel to please. Natalie Massenet, CEO and founder of NET-A-PORTER.COM, Joshua Schulman, CEO of Jimmy Choo, Anne Pitcher, Head of Buying at Selfridges, Roy Peach, Dean of MA Fashion at London College of Fashion, Antoni Burakowski, of Antoni and Alison and Paula Reed, Fashion Director of Grazia will all have a say in who makes it to the final.
