Michelle Obama is known for her love of sporting British fashion – who could forget that stunning McQueen gown she wore to the State dinner – so it comes as no surprise America’s First Lady is all in favour of helping along ASOS’ Africa initiative.

Michelle recently lent her support to the programme by wearing a top from the online collection while on a visit to Africa. The clothes were produced in collaboration with SOKO in Kenya, with the ASOS Africa collection enabling underprivileged communities to establish sustainable business through their local craftsmanship.

“As a British fashion brand, with global online reach, we are thrilled at Asos to have Michelle Obama – someone who continues to be a great ambassador for fashion – flying our flag abroad,” said ASOS CEO Nick Robertson.

“ASOS Africa is our dedicated ethical collection, now in its third season and produced in Kenya by 25 local craftspeople to help empower the community, so it feels very appropriate to have the First Lady wearing it whilst doing valuable humanitarian work in South Africa.”

And because the scheme is in aid of charity, £5 from each ASOS Africa garment sold will go directly to the construction of SOKO’s new workshop, with the ASOS Foundation matching each £5 donation, reports Vogue UK.
