Hilary Alexander is undoubtedly a credit to the fashion industry, and to commemorate such an amazing career Hilary has announced she’s set to begin work on her long-awaited autobiography, following her “semi-retirement” from the Telegraph.

“I’ve always wanted to write an autobiography because I’ve lived such an incredible life, quite a strange life,” said Alexander.

“I mean, I was born in New Zealand and somehow managed to become fashion director of the Telegraph!”

The autobiography itself is set to be released next summer, but Hilary is hoping to get her manuscript done and dusted by the end of this year.

“There’s just so much to remember! I’ve had such wonderful adventures around the world – not just the usual New York, Paris and Milan – but countries that you would never think of, like Easter Island, Kazakhstan, Bhutan, Cambodia and Sri Lanka,” recalls Hilary.

But it would appear a book isn’t the only documentary deal she’d let chronicle her long-standing career.

“I’m not ruling out the possibility of a documentary or a TV or film deal either, but for now I’m going to start writing my book next month,” revealed Hilary.

“I don’t think that I will ever actually retire from the industry. I just love the clothes and jewellery too much – the colours, the fabrics, the shapes. I would love to study architecture, but even that’s fashion, because it’s the costumes, the jewellery, the history of the way people dressed and lived.”

Hilary will be honoured at this year’s British Fashion Awards for her outstanding contribution to the fashion industry, and will remain a fashion corespondent for Telegraph until June 2012, reports Vogue UK.

We love you Hilary!
