10 Useful Travel Hacks For Your Upcoming Beach Vacation

The sound of waves crashing, gentle ocean breeze, refreshing cocktails, and the feeling of the sun on your skin. Is there anything better than a dreamy beach vacation? If you plan to visit a coastal town for your next vacation, it’s time to start planning. A little bit of preparation can mean the difference between a relaxing vacation and a nightmare trip filled with sunburns and other mishaps.  In this post, we’re sharing travel tips for your upcoming beach vacation. Let’s dive in. Don’t Forget Sunscreen We cannot emphasize enough the importance of wearing sunscreen. After all, you don’t want to spend your break dealing with a painful sunburn. In addition to sunscreen lotion, you should also carry a sunscreen spray, which is easier to apply on hard-to-reach areas. Moreover, make sure you are reapplying every two hours. Pack Other Protective Products Apart from your skin, you also need to protect your hair. Direct and prolonged exposure to the sun can discolor and damage your hair. We suggest wearing a hat as well as applying a leave-in conditioner to keep your hair hydrated. Additionally, remember to pack anti-UV sunglasses. Pre-Plan Outfits Do you tend to overpack? Packing too many unnecessary things makes the unpacking process time-consuming as well as may cost you extra baggage fees. Instead, you should pre-plan your outfits for every day of the trip. This will help you avoid bringing things you don’t need. Get Comfortable Footwear Don’t subject yourself to agonizing blisters by wearing cheap rubber flip flops. Purchase high-quality footwear that you can comfortably wear on the beach and around town. Book a Vacation Home Why stay in a tiny hotel room when you can unwind in spacious vacation homes? Skip conventional accommodations and consider booking vacation homes on the Outer Banks. From private pools […]

From dramatic seaside cliffs to wide stretches of sandy beaches, these coastal destinations offer something for everyone. Here’s our list of the best beaches near London! 1. Camber Sands, Sussex Camber Sands is one of England’s best beaches and you can reach it with just a 40-minute journey down the coast on the train from London. It has plenty to offer families including safe swimming waters, kite-flying, and paddleboarding opportunities. The beach is huge, stretching up to four miles long, but it never feels overcrowded. There are also cafes, pubs, and shops to keep you occupied back on dry land. 2. Botany Bay, Kent If the weather looks like it’ll bring rain instead of sunshine consider a trip to this beach near Broadstairs, Kent. At high tide, the sea meets the cliff-tops at Newcastle Gap creating a sheltered natural swimming pool to play in. 3. Ruislip Lido, West London It’s not necessarily one of the best beaches in the country but worth mentioning because it’s right on your doorstep! The lido is only 6 minutes away from Ruislip station in West London. It has an open-air pool, which is the biggest in Europe. 4. Frensham Beach, Surrey Surrounded by trees and hills, Frensham’s beauty is only enhanced by the fact it’s located on a private estate. You’ll need to pay for car parking as there’s no public transport to the beach. Parking goes on for miles. A beautiful place to spend the day, Frensham Beach is arguably one of Surrey’s finest. 5. Whitstable Beach, Kent Whitstable is nicknamed ‘the jewel of east Kent’ and this award was justified when it was named the best beach in the UK by […]

What To Wear To A Beach Destination Wedding?

We love weddings. Even better, we love beach destination weddings. For starters you get to see your loved ones wed in a dreamy location, plus the much needed break is always welcome. But it’s always tricky deciding what to wear and what to pack. Well, we’ve decided to tackle the first dilemma – what to wear. A maxi dress always works well, especially when paired with statement jewellery by designers such as Yossi Harari. Alternatively opt for a jumpsuit or turn heads in a sexy printed mini dress. Whether you’re in the mood for a maxi, a jumpsuit, or want to keep it cool in a short dress, here’s three gorgeous options (if you’re lucky enough to have a destination wedding on the horizon). Thailand’s Best Mainland Beaches

As if straight from a postcard, Thailand’s beaches are synonymous with sugar-white sands, azure waters and swaying palms. Whether you want to relax among tropical scenery or party until the early hours, there’s certainly no shortage of glorious shorelines. While most tourists flock to the south islands, the mainland has just as much to offer for those seeking their fill of sun, sand and sea. Here’s a round-up of Thailand’s best mainland beaches. Pattaya Beach, Pattaya If you’re looking to experience the famous party scene first-hand head to Pattaya on the eastern Gulf Coast. Due to the selection of appealing beaches and vibrant nightlife, the city is one of the most popular places to stay in Thailand, especially with the young, raucous crowd. The busiest strip is the crescent-shaped Pattaya Beach, offering palm-fringed sands and a range of thrilling watersports including paragliding and windsurfing. There’s also plenty of opportunities for beachside browsing in the nearby shops and numerous seafront restaurants dotted along the adjacent Beach Road. Railay Beach, Krabi Known for its idyllic scenery, Railay Beach is a true tropical paradise. Although technically on a peninsula, the beach is only accessible by a 20-minute long-tail boat ride from Krabi due to the towering limestone cliffs that prevent access from the mainland. Thanks to the area’s remote location and lack of roads it has all the trappings of a desert island escape with its pristine shoreline, clear waters and lush jungle backdrop. Lazy days here can be spent digging your toes into powder-soft sand, kayaking around hidden lagoons, rock climbing scenic crags and sipping cocktails in bamboo beach huts. Khao Lak Beach, Khao Lak Home to a handful of quiet resort villages dotted along Thailand’s west coast, Khao Lak offers more laid-back beach scenes compared to the busier strips on the Gulf Coast. The Top 7 Beach Holiday Destinations Everyone Must Visit

A perfect beach is enough to take even the most seasoned traveller’s breath away, and these top seven will do little to displease anyone. In a variety of locations across the world, they encompass what is truly great about great beaches – stunning sand, clear water, amazing locations and fantastic experiences. 1. Porto Da Barra, Salvador, Brazil Perfectly located at the entrance of the Baia de Todos os Santos (or the All Saints’ Bay), the Porto da Barra is a beautiful and picturesque beach in a city steeped in history. Colonial forts, whitewashed churches and old stone walls all help create a setting deserving of Brazil’s oldest city. As the beach is located in a bay the water is really clean, perfectly clear and awe-inspiringly calm. With its west-facing location, it’s also the perfect place to relax and enjoy some breath-taking and idyllic sunsets. 2. Little Palm Island, Florida, USA Off the south Florida coastline is a stunning collection of islands, including Little Torch Key. And just slightly further south away from this island is the exclusive and isolated resort of Little Palm Island. Accessible only by boat or seaplane, unlike the main islands which are connected by the Overseas Highway, the fantastic sandy white beaches are populated by coconut palm trees and colonial British-style bungalows. Guests are welcomed to the secluded island with tropical punch and even get their names carved in wooden plaques on the door to their bungalows. Lacking any modern distractions like phones or TVs, Little Palm Island is designed to be a taste of the South Pacific just off the Florida coast. 3. Anse Source d’Argent, La Digue, Seychelles The Seychelles, located east of mainland Africa in the Indian Ocean, is home to Anse Source d’Argent with its stunning pale pink beaches – one of […]

Sicily’s best beach holidays revealed!

The sun may be shining uncharacteristically bright here in London this morning, but that doesn’t mean we want to spend our entire summer here. Much like the majority of the nation, we want to go on a sumptuous beach holiday within the next few months – after all, nothing says relaxation better than sitting on the sand and watching the waves crashing in front of you – although we’re pretty overwhelmed with choice when it comes to location. And we know we’re not alone, either! When it comes to holidays, whatever the reason or occasion, you could do a lot worse than heading to Sicily, as there’s something there for everyone. Whether you want to climb rocks, scuba dive, or simply soak up the rays undisturbed, you’ll certainly find it in Sicily. Diving and snorkelling enthusiasts should head to Favignana or Ustica (which you can see beautiful teaser pics of in the infographic created by soloSicily), while wine connoisseurs would feel right at home at Saline di Marsala. If you want a little bit of adventure along with your relaxing holiday, why not visit Scala dei Turchi? The rocky cliff is situated between two gorgeous sandy beaches, and those semi-fluent in Italian will have already guessed that it’s accessible via a “staircase” formation of rocks. A great thing to do if you’re bored of sitting on a sun lounger all day and want to work for your tan! If you don’t like the hustle and bustle of busy tourist areas, we’d strongly suggest booking somewhere to stay at the small but very characteristic Macari. The seaside village only has around 200 inhabitants, so you’ll be able to soak up the rays and the culture in peace. Which Sicilian beach holiday will you choose?

Three Reasons Why You Need To Have A Beach Vacation

City breaks are great. Skiing trips can be a lot of fun. Hiking through the countryside is a holiday of choice for many. However, beach vacations still remain as popular as ever and – even if you have not been on one in a while – they still hold plenty of allure. Of course, beach-based holidays are the mainstay break for many families with younger children, because kids enjoy them so much. Nevertheless, if you thought that beach holidays where behind you, then think again. There are still plenty of reasons why you should go on one now. The Choice Of Resorts Resorts with good beaches are, generally speaking, set up for holidaymakers. Late deals can help you achieve your dream beach vacation and save money along the way. If you search for bargains and last minute deals for resorts that are not on the coast, then your options are much more limited. Because beach holidays are popular, you tend to get the benefits of the economy of scale that go with them. That is not to say that beach holidays are uniformly cheap and cheerful. Across the range, from luxury hotels and villas to self-catering accommodation, beach resorts tend to offer better value for money in a wide range of locations than, for example, city breaks do. Relaxation For many, the whole point of a beach vacation is that it affords the best opportunity to relax. Sure, if you have kids with you then holidays are rarely as laid back as when you are on your own. However, a good beach with safe waters where little ones can play is ideal for parents to relax. You can kick back and soak up some sun on the beach whilst the children play in the sand never out of sight and […]

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen expand fashion empire with BeachMint stake

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen already have a pretty large bank account thanks to their numerous fashion projects including The Row and Elizabeth and James, but that doesn’t mean they’re stopping there. British holidaymakers reveal their biggest beach bugbears

You might think your highly anticipated beach holiday is exactly what the doctor ordered; sun, sea, a cheeky cocktail… paradise, right? Wrong! Although a beach holiday can indeed be relaxing, it doesn’t come without its annoyances. Leading online travel agent On the Beach conducted a survey of over 16,000 British holidaymakers to find out what ticked them off on the beach, and the results were pretty interesting! Unsurprisingly, beach sellers came top of the list as the number one biggest bugbear (after all, we don’t want our precious tanning time interrupted, do we?), with littering, smoking and loud music respectively following. We definitely don’t want other people’s cigarette smoke or chocolate bar wrappers flying in our faces while sunbathing, and it looks like the Brits surveyed felt the same way. Nice to know we’re all on the same page. What else did the survey reveal then? 9% of people surveyed said that bugs ruined their beach experience, while only 1% said that nudity bothered them, which we actually find quite surprising considering our conventional prudish nature. “We are renowned as a nation of prudes, especially compared to some of our more liberal European neighbours, yet our results show that Brits are no longer offended by nudity, so it would seem this stereotype is somewhat obsolete,” said Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer at On the Beach. So that’s annoying “things” out the way, what about annoying “people”? Who did the Brits surveyed find the most irritating? It turns out they were quite hard on themselves, as one in four found holidaymakers from the UK the most annoying nationality of traveller in-resort. Only one in ten Brits pointed the finger at the Germans, and even fewer blame was directed at the French. “The results also suggest dated opinions of other nations are […]

Top 10 Beach Reads of 2013

There is no greater pleasure known to mankind than to chill out on a sun-kissed beach in the company of a good book. That’s not just our opinion, it’s a cold, hard fact. A great beach read can be come from pretty much any genre, from quality drama to travel, though maybe leave the likes of Albert Camus and Edgar Allen Poe at home on the shelf to avoid turning your summer holiday mindset into one of sheer existential anguish or creeping fear. It’s your holiday we’re talking about here, and it’s obviously important to make an effort to read what you love in your precious free time, but if you’re a little stuck this summer, cast your eyes over the following rundown of some of the best beach reads whose pages will be curling up under the sun’s rays this summer, and if you haven’t booked that holiday yet, head over to Cosmos and sort it out sharpish: 10. George Saunders – Tenth of December: If there was ever a form of writing best suited to a short summer break it’s the short story, and the art currently has no greater exponent than Saunders, who imagines surreal dystopias through his prose. 9. Nadeem Aslam – The Blind Man’s Garden: This beautifully written post-9/11 fable is the thinking holidayer’s pick for a soulful, serious read. 8. Kate Atkinson – Life After Life: Atkinson is currently one of the UK’s favourite authors and for good reason – she presents the big questions in an accessible and manageable form. How very British! 7. Rupert Thompson – Secrecy: What could make for a better beach read than Secrecy, with its sizzling combination of Intelligence and sex in 17th Century Italy? 6. Neil Gaiman – The Ocean at the End of the Lane: Master […]

Lauren Conrad is a Miami beach babe for Marie Claire US July

July is pretty much the height of summer, so who better to front a summer fashion glossy than all-American beach babe, Lauren Conrad? Lauren was shot by Regan Cameron for Marie Claire US’s July issue, and she’s making us ever-so-slightly green-eyed. Her flawless blonde locks, her ability to rock that edgy fringe, her endless stems, her golden glow, and the sunshine in the Miami background all contribute to our all-round jealousy. Have we left anything out? Oh yes – the Fausto Puglisi dress she is wearing on the cover is something pretty special too. LC chats to the mag about all sorts of fun subjects, in particular her ‘The Little Market’ e-commerce site which is launching with her friend and Human Rights Watch advocate Hannah Taylor Skvarla this September. “We’ve been to Bali and El Salvador and Africa and India and Nepal,” she said. “Hannah is good about educating me about not just the beautiful places we go to but also the issues people there face. I think when you’ve been fortunate, you have a moral obligation to do things for others.” Well said, Lauren. Click here to read more snippers from her interview.

Beachwear for your body shape: Inverted triangle

Also known as the ‘strawberry’ shape, body shapes do somewhat resemble a complicated fruit cocktail at times (pardon the pun). If your frame is relative to a punnet of the Wimbledon favourite then you have an inverted triangle or ‘V’ shaped body: broad shoulders, large bust with narrower hips. The key to dressing an inverted triangle shape is to create balance between your upper torso and lower body. Keep to bikini bottoms with brighter colours and

Beachwear for your body shape: Pear

Beachwear for your body shape: Rectangle body shape

So we’ve covered the Apple body shape. Now for the rectangle. For the leaner ladies sporting a ‘surfboard’ physique, save for bosoms and the illusion of a derrière; welcome to the rectangle shaped world. Yours is the figure most women want, albeit you crave J-Lo-esque curves to avoid looking uncannily like the latest Royal family addition. Rectangle shapes are by far the least difficult for beach dressing. Your lean, muscular build and longer legs look fantastic in racy bikinis and sexy swimsuits. You do, however, have  a less defined waist, but with the right pieces a perfect silhouette can be created which accentuates your naturally athletic or ‘boyish’ shape to give the illusion of a more curvaceous frame. The key with rectangle body shapes is to define the waist to give the illusion of a fuller top and bottom half. Create emphasis on the bust and hips by opting for bikins in bolder prints; add ruffles for volume and taper at the waist to create a more defined silhouette. Take your pick from our curve creating top pieces to hit the beach in… Marc by Marc Jacobs ruffle bandeau bikini, £170 £109, available at mytheresa.com   Zimmerman Titanium copycat silk playsuit, £189 £94, available at my-wardrobe.com Zimmerman Sapphire copycat ruched corset one piece, £234 £140, available at my-wardrobe.com   Tibi paisley ruffle maxi dress, £540, £270, available at my-wardrobe.com                      Zimmerman Ebony rose print triangle bikini, £149 £74, available at my-wardrobe.com

Beachwear for your body shape: Apple

Beachwear suited to your body shape is just as much a pressing matter as Kate Middleton’s next (diplomatically chosen) fashionable ensemble. Getting it right when it comes to body-baring season is essential as undoubtedly you want to look your best in the summer sun.  Therefore, it’s important to know what we sartorially click with – but this may not always agree with our body types. If your shape suspiciously resembles the said fruit (read: larger bust, broad shoulders, narrower hips with a less defines waist), following our beachwear guideline below with our top picks for your shape will have you boat party-bikini ready quicker than your passion fruit caipirinha arrives! The key to dressing an apple shape is creating balance by drawing attention away from the heavier, top half of your body. Opting for under wired bikini tops ensures fantastic support and lift for the bust area. Avoid halter-neck bikini tops as they risk making shoulders appear wider than they are, instead opting forthicker straps. Wrap-dresses provide a refreshing take on cover-ups and are easily adjustable for a looser, or a more defined look. Opt for brightly-hued or boldly printed, highwaisted bikini bottomsfor maximum attention on your lower half and also seek out swimsuit options with stomach flattering, built-in shape control. Missoni Vermont Shorts, £335 £235, available at mytheresa.com   DVF Najah crochet wrap mini sundress, £182, £109, available at my-wardrobe.com Heidi Klein Nassau black bow bikini, £192, £96, available at my-wardrobe.com   DVF Zane highwaisted bikini bottoms pants, £103 £51, available at my-wardrobe.com   Norma Kamali polka dot bandeau bikini with high waisted bottoms, £290, available at Browns.

It’s Beach Time: Cute Cover-Ups

When I think of vacation, an image of the beach and clear blue waters comes to mind. It doesn’t get much better than laying out by the ocean (with loads of SPF on of course) with a good book in one hand and a daquiri in the other. Winter Sun Beach Chic

In preparation for my own escape to the sun this winter I have been searching London high and low in pursuit of the perfect holiday wardrobe – no mean feat whilst still in the depths of winter. Ever the fashionista I am, taking inspiration from the Spring/Summer 07 catwalks, coveting neon brights teamed with creamy caramels a-la-Christopher Kane, whilst shimmery pale gold and light-as-air chiffons will come into their own with a golden tan. Braving the changing room after a Christmas season of serious indulgence is never a pleasant task, so the shopping destinations need to be all the more special to ease the struggle. For pure ambiance and experience, I head to Notting Hill, where my favourites are top-end boutiques Heidi Klein and Pistol Panties. Pistol Panties bikinis never fail to make you feel and look like a fifties starlet , concealing and revealing in all the right places. The appropriately named ‘Kate’ style is top of my wishlist – the sparkly gold is very Princess Leia, especially when teamed with a Melissa Odabash kaftan from Heidi Klein. This one-stop holiday shop’s style is more pared-down beach chic, but the experience is no less spoiling. As well as a magnificent selection of bikinis by the likes of Missoni, the in-house beauty salon will buff manicure and tan you so that you’re well and truly ready for the sun. If you can’t make it to Notting Hill my best advice is to shop online where websites like www.figleaves.com have an infinite selection and www.Cocobay.co.uk has a free returns policy and stocks hip Aussie brands Seafolly and Moontide. For those on the other side of the Atlantic, www.shopbop.com is the only way to go – snap up a hot pink Diane Von Furstenburg Beach or printed Marc Jacobs bikini whilst they’re […]

Don’t Forget These 10 Things When Planning Your Summer Holiday!

Summer is just around the corner, and you know what that means – holiday time! Whether you’re jetting off on a beach holiday or a city break, a summer holiday is always an exciting time. But to make your trip goes off without a hitch, there are some key things you need to plan and prepare for. We’ve put together this comprehensive guide to help you plan the perfect summer holiday and make sure you don’t forget any of the essentials. Here’s our top 10 tips on what not to forget when planning your next summer getaway! 1. Book your flights and accommodation This may seem obvious, but it’s surprising how many people leave booking flights and hotels to the last minute. Prices can skyrocket close to departure, so get organized early. Search around for flight comparison websites to find the best airfares. And for accommodation, book any hotels or apartments you need as far in advance as possible. Popular destinations book out quickly over peak season. So take the time to lock in your bookings nice and early. That way, you can relax knowing everything is organized ahead of time. 2. Renew your passport It’s a rookie mistake – getting ready to go on holiday only to realize your passport has expired. Avoid disaster by checking your passport validity now. Most countries require passports to be valid for at least 6 months beyond the dates of travel. If you need to renew your passport, it can take 4-6 weeks to process. So don’t leave it until the last minute. Renew your passport with plenty of time to spare. That way, your summer vacation won’t be ruined by an invalid travel document. 3. Get travel insurance No one expects disasters or emergencies to happen on holidays. But travel insurance gives […]

Comparing Yourself to Others? Here’s How to Stop and Find Happiness Within

It can be hard sometimes to be happy with what you have in life. We tend to constantly compare ourselves to others and get caught up in wanting more – whether it’s a bigger house, fancier car, better job title or more Instagram followers. Our consumerist culture fuels a sense of never having enough. How can we break this cycle and learn to appreciate what we already have? The key is to stop looking externally for fulfillment. Lasting happiness comes from within. It starts with focusing on the blessings in your life right now instead of what you lack. Shifting your mindset builds gratitude for what you have and enables you to find joy in the simple pleasures each day brings. Contentment is within your reach if you make a habit of the following strategies. Here are some powerful ways you can start training your brain to be happy with what you have and stop comparing yourself to others. 1. Keep a Gratitude Journal Start each day by writing down 3-5 things you are grateful for. These could be simple pleasures – a warm bed, your favorite breakfast, laughing with a friend. This daily practice trains your brain to focus on the positive aspects of your life. Over time, you will begin to notice more and more things to be grateful for. Gratitude journaling has been scientifically proven to improve happiness and life satisfaction. So grab a notebook and get writing! Even on difficult days, try to find at least one small thing to appreciate. 2. Tell Loved Ones How Much They Mean to You It’s easy to take the important people in our lives for granted. Make a habit of expressing your love and appreciation for your family, partner, and close friends. Send a heartfelt text just because, bring […]

A Mens Guide To Monochromatic Outfits

Monochromatic outfits are surging in popularity. Many people think the concept means limiting your clothing to gray, white or black, but it’s really about using any single consistent color throughout your ensemble.  Michelle Obama made a notable monochromatic fashion statement at President Joe Biden’s inauguration, and Jake Gyllenhaal has been known to follow this style at some awards shows. Queen Elizabeth II was probably the most prominent example, as she wore color-consistent outfits throughout her seven-decade reign, down to hats and umbrella trims. Dressing this way is a growing trend in men’s outerwear for several reasons. Many men find it calming and psychologically beneficial. At the very least, it can make it easier and quicker to choose the clothes you’re going to wear each day. What Are Monochromatic Outfits? While monochromatic outfits might be a modern trend, the roots of the word monochrome go all the way back to ancient Greece. The Greek word “monokhr?matos” means “of a single color.” The “of” part is crucial because monochromatic outfits derive from one source color, but the elements aren’t always the same. Different elements of your outfit might be various shades or tints. The creativity comes in subtle details, such as drapery, patterns and fit. One popular misconception about monochromatic dressing is that everything needs to be solid. You can dress that way if you want, but incorporating different textures and patterns into your various garments brings a more sophisticated vibe to your look. Monochromatic Outfit Ideas With the right clothes, you can pull off a monochromatic look in any color. However, if you’re just starting off, you might try taking a minimalist route with muted colors. These include black and gray, but you can also venture safely into white, navy and beige. The Man in Black Going all black is a […]

Want To Call Australia Your New Home? Here’s What You Need To Know About Moving Abroad

You should never rush a decision to move abroad, especially if your destination of choice is Australia. It’s a big country, with long history and varied culture, as well as a very unique collection of flora and fauna – the spiders alone put most people off!  But if you’ve visited the country before and fallen in love, you might now want to call it home on a permanent basis. And if the idea of living in Australia gets you excited to pack your bags and leave as soon as possible, we’ve listed some tips below that’ll help you plan your emigration.  Where Do You Want to Settle? This is the first, and possibly most exciting thing, to consider. Whereabouts in Australia do you want to settle? Depending on what you like about the country, you’ve got quite a few towns and cities to consider.  Brisbane, for example, is a good place for those who like the city life but also love the peace and quiet. There’s plenty of camping spots and country parks nearby, so you won’t need to go far to get away from it all. On the other hand, if you love nightlife and the culture of the country, you should think about settling in or just outside of Melbourne.  Compare Rent and Grocery Prices Now that you’ve thought about where you’d like to live, you need to do some research into the current cost of living, as well as the rate of inflation throughout the country. Australia tends to be a bit pricey in the more metropolitan areas, so if you’re coming from the USA or the UK, that’s something you’ll need to get used to.  If you find that the cost of living regarding rent and groceries is a bit too different for you, you may […]
