William Grant & Sons launch new Three Barrels Honey brandy

Cosmos and sex on the beach cocktails are two of the most traditional stylish drinks to be sipping while on a night out with the girls (you only need to watch half an episode of Sex and the City to know this!) but don’t be surprised if they slowly but surely start being replaced with something a little stronger. A nice glass of brandy, perhaps… In a bid to cater to customers with a bit of a sweet tooth, William Grant & Sons have recently launched the Three Barrels Honey brandy – a brandy which the company boasts is the sweetest one yet. And given that William Grant & Sons has been a booming family business for over five generations, it’s safe to say that they know a thing or two about the nation’s favourite tipples. It isn’t just brandy that William Grant & Sons have excelled at, as they also produce some of the finest single malt scotch whiskey, gin, and spiced rum among other things. Still, it’s the brandy that has got our taste buds tingling this morning thanks to the smooth honey that promises to effortlessly glide down your throat (it’s Friday – we’re allowed!) and we are determined to make the rest of the nation agree with us. And proof that brandy isn’t just for older generations, the bottle has been given a very stylish make-over, complete with a premium gold and orange honey comb exterior. Look how pretty it is in the picture above! What do you think? Will you be swapping your faithful Cosmo for a nice glass of brandy instead? If you want to try it, simply head to your local Morrisons now (or from multiple groceries from September) to pick up your Three Barrels Honey for just £17.99 for a 70cl bottle. […]

Brandy vs. Nicki Minaj…Who wore Alexander McQueen better?

One dress, two girls. Yep, you know the drill. This week, at fashion loggerheads are singers Nicki Minaj and Brandy, who recently stepped out in an identical, black Alexander McQueen gown, from the spring 2014 collection. Featuring a cut-out design around the waist area, and a strap running across the top of the chest, the figure-skimming gown made for a demure evening look. First up to take to the red carpet in the gown was Brandy, when she attended the 45th NAACP Awards Non-Televised Awards Ceremony back in February. Opting for sleek tresses and minimal accessories – save for a clutch and cocktail ring – Brandy rounded of her look with strong evening-glam eyes and strappy sandals. But catching up with Brandy in the race for gown glory was rap queen Nicki Minaj, who wore the same look to the Billboard Awards earlier this month. Having recently debuted a more subdued side to her over-the-top Barbie persona, the singer gave us a very sultry red carpet look. Retro waves, two wrist cuffs and statement earrings provided the perfect finishing touches to Ms. Minaj’s most un-Barbie look, whilst make-up was kept extremely subtle. The one standout ‘feature,’ we have to say, was the clever display of underboob that peeped out from under the cut-out detail. Well, it’s Nicki… So, whose look takes the trophy this week? We’re giving this one to…Nicki! Everything, from the muted accessories to the expert flash of cleavage, works for this look. Surprising, we know, but Nicki’s nailed this one without taking it into trashy territory. Brandy looks great, too, but the look just doesn’t scream “WOW!” on her. Agree with our style verdict? Katy Perry vs. Brandy…Who wore Fausto Puglisi better?

Two top songstresses. One dress. Yes, you know the drill. This week, in a rather colourful Fausto Puglisi ensemble, Katy Perry and singer Brandy are battling it out in the fashion stakes. Wearing a colourblock skirt and bell-sleeved top; the ladies cinched in their waists with a black waistband, creating the perfect hourglass silhouette. Slipping into this super-bright combo first was Katy Perry, who attended the pre-Grammy brunch way back in 2o12 in said look. Sporting a wacky blue bob and Charlotte Olympia piano heels; Katy went for a smattering of hand accessories to dress up her look. Heavily done-up eyes and a pop of pink lip colour rounded of the look nicely. But, catching up with the Unconditional singer was also another singer, Brandy, who wore the same outfit to the Haunted House 2 premiere, a few weeks ago. Opting for leopard print Gucci heels and a Solange Knowles-inspired, tightly curled hairdo; Brandy rounded off her look with super simple make up and a winning smile. So, who takes the style crown this week? We love both looks, but we’re going to give this one to Brandy! Her easy styling keeps all eyes on the attention-grabbing dress, whereby Katy’s look is screaming ‘LOOK AT ME!’ in too many places at once. Do you agree? Whose look wins for you? Rate or Slate Freida Pinto, Nelly Furtado and Brandy’s style choices?

This week’s Rate or Slate takes us to Cannes and the Billboard Music Awards. Of course, both major events, (ok, maybe the first one’s like the biggest every year!) demanded major fashion to impress! Freida Pinto showed up to day 3 of Cannes in a Salvatore Ferragamo cropped halter neck top and matching midi skirt. Oh, what we’d give to have abs like Freida’s! Nelly Furtado’s interesting choice of attire at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards raised a few eyebrows, as well as turning many heads! A peeping Tom black bra under her white Alberta Ferretti dress threw us a little, as did those batwing -esque earrings… Brandy channelled a Diana Ross vibe with her new hair in a Hervé Léger by Max Azria bandage dress for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. Rose gold accents aplenty, we’re still deciding on this one… Style Jury, take it away! Fashion News Editor says: Freida Pinto: ‘This is probably my least favourite Freida look from Cannes so far. Having seen what she is capable of wearing, this is kind of a bland choice for the Cannes Film Festival. I also think the skirt drowns Freida’s petite frame.’ Nelly Furtado: ‘I’m in two minds about Nelly Furtado’s look. It’s a bit busy and I’m not crazy about the length. I’d say its borderline acceptable.’ Brandy: ‘I’m quite bored of the celebs busting out the Hervé Léger now – we know it looks good but it’s a failsafe choice that’s been overdone now. However…Brandy’s wild hair and her overall styling have saved what could have been a dull look, so it’s 100% rate for me.’ You say: ‘I love ‘em all’ – @googa_91 via Twitter ‘Brandy – I’m loving it’ – @RihBelle_Legold via Twitter Verdict: RATE to the power of one! Even though Hervé Léger […]

6 Effective Ways To Boost Productivity While Working From Home

Since the onset of COVID-19, most people have opted to work from their homes to avoid spreading the virus. Despite it being a good idea as it’s cost-effective and easier to take care of your family, working from home has many shortcomings that can interfere with productivity. For example, being constantly interrupted by family, or noisy neighbours. It takes a hardworking and determined individual to make a significant income while working from the comfort of their homes. Whether you just started working from home recently after the Coronavirus pandemic or you have been doing it for ages, there are certain things you can do to improve your productivity, as discussed below. Have a Designated Working Area You will not hack working from home if you are the type that works from the kitchen, sitting room or the bedroom. These working environments are destructive and cannot allow you to focus and take your work seriously. It’s essential to set up a specific place that will act as your office.  Working in an office-like area will tune your mind and help you concentrate on the tasks at hand. Therefore make the necessary adjustments in your working space. Among the things to look at include the lighting of the room, the working chair, and table, work tools such as pens, notebooks, and laptop, among others.  Another area to look at is your windows’ quality, especially if you are the type that loves working near the window for fresh air and admiration of the outside world. This may indeed be the right way of relaxing and breaking the monotony but remember distraction is a killer of concentration, and you should avoid it at all costs.  Setting up your office adjacent to the window will mean intrusion of your privacy by a nosy road passer or […]

Keeping the weight off over Christmas

Christmas is a dangerous time for your waistline. The endless feasts, the third helpings … There’s hardly any respite from the delicious food that you get to enjoy with your family. It’s fine while it lasts, and after working hard all year it’s richly deserved. But it does mean you have a job on your hands if you aren’t to emerge in the New Year with a spare tire or two. So what’s to be done about it? Luckily there are ways you can keep the weight off over Christmas but still enjoy the best time of the year. Be realistic Most families really push the boat out over Christmas, so the chances are you will eat more than you would normally. Don’t fight that; it’s a time of celebration and whoever has prepared Christmas dinner will have put their heart and soul into it. It’s a question of management, and not overdoing it. Resist the temptation to pile ‘Pigs in Blankets’ in your plate, restrict the gravy to your turkey and spuds (try and stick with two roast potatoes) and don’t gorge on mince pies and Christmas cake before getting to the table. Pace yourself But don’t starve yourself beforehand either. A lot of people think they will pre-empt the feasting by skipping breakfast entirely. This is wrong, because it’ll confuse your body. You’ll be ravenous by the time the turkey is served up, meaning you’ll end up eating more. Lay the foundations While the weather isn’t going to be the most conducive, don’t wait ‘til the new year to make a resolution to up your exercise. Going for a jog in the morning will help fight the weight gain as well as get you away from the family for a precious half hour. Don’t just stick to aerobic […]
