Isabel Marant To Launch Makeup Collection With L’Oréal Paris

It seems that every month we’re hit by a collaboration guaranteed to make our wallets groan and this month is no exception, especially if you’re a beauty addict AND a fan of Isabel Marant. Today L’Oréal Paris announced they’ve teamed up with French designer Isabel Marant to create a limited edition makeup collection. Set to launch on the same day of Isabel Marant’s show at Paris Fashion Week  – September 27th, 2018, the line consist of five products for lips, eyes and cheeks. On the collaboration Marant said in a statement, “I’ve always interpreted fashion’s ready-to-wear literally, and I couldn’t be more thrilled at this chance to do that in makeup with an on-the-go collection with L’Oréal Paris”. She continued, “it has been a dream to get right inside makeup innovation and to offer this collection of day-into-night, natural-to-smoking makeup essentials I have always wanted.” Isabel Marant x L’Oréal Paris will be available both online and offline in Isabel Marant stores and select L’Oreal Paris outlets.

Isabel Marant Holden sandals: Yay or Nay?

Spent the holiday season stuck in heels? Are the balls of your feel crying out in again, begging for a break from the four inchers sat in your shoe closet? If so, then cast your eyes on this week’s Yay or Nay shoe, because there’s not a platform or kitten heel in sight! Enter the Holden leather sandals by Isabel Marant. Better known for her sell-out wedge sneakers, Marant has worked her magic in fashion’s newly favoured ‘ugly shoe’ department, and the result? Uber-comfy, quilted leather sandals perfect for your next sunny venture. But, would you dare slip into them? Check out our reasons for saying Yay and Nay to a heel detox (yup, that’s a thing) below: Yay Your podiatrist would be proud: Given the health benefits often associated with wearing heels are few; a heel detox is just what the doctor podiatrist ordered. Comfort never looked so good. Great price: At £280, although not the cheapest in te market, the Holden sandal has decent price point for high-end leather. Carry-through trend: After Phoebe Philo made it OK to shamelessly wear furry Birkenstocks, the surge in ‘ugly shoes’ has been impressive, and is still going strong. Heels? What heels? Nay Not weather-proof: Well, given we’re battling unpredictable weather this side of the pond for most of the year, making a splash in the Holden sandals, or risking frostbite, is the last thing your feet will want. Lazy effort: As much as we love the comfort factor these sandals offer, the casual factor may just go too far. Paired with tailored wool trousers in a glossy editorial, they may look the bomb, but in reality, you risk dirty looks from you boss for wearing these to the office in the name of “fashion.” Permanent pedicures: We can all admit to […]

Watch Isabel Marant discuss her H&M collaboration

Can’t wait ‘til next month for the Isabel Marant for H&M collaboration to launch? Neither can we, but we have something to whet your appetites this morning. The designer can be seen and heard talking about her new project, and we are even treated to a few sneak peeks at the pieces too. “This was a very nice opportunity to redo what I love in my collections and share this love with a wider public,” she says in the video. “There were a lot of men asking me, ‘Why don’t you do menswear?’ So I started to do T-shirts and knitwear, but I never really did a total outfit for men. So its my first time doing it for H&M.” H&M should feel very privileged. The Isabel Marant x H&M collection will land in 250 stores worldwide on November 14th – put it in your diaries, take the day off work, do whatever you have to do to make sure you’re first in line!

Daria Werbowy treats us to sneak peek of Isabel Marant for H&M

You’re in for a real treat this morning, as the first Isabel Marant for H&M ad campaign image has been released on Instagram (God bless social media – what would we do without it, eh?) and it features none other than the gorgeous Daria Werbowy! We think she’s the perfect infusion of the classic Isabel Marant and H&M woman, and the image above where the model is rocking a black and white rug jumper is simply breathtaking. Daria even comes complete with a fierce nose ring, which gives us a better sense of the direction the clothing collection is going in. Think attitude, and lots of it! We can’t wait to see more ad campaign images – not that we need any more convincing to form an orderly queue outside H&M the day it comes out. Do you love this image as much as we do?

Isabel Marant Scarlet Wedge Boots: Yay or Nay?

On the agenda this week: boots. We’ve already discussed the possibility of slipping into thigh-highs this winter, but we just can’t stop contemplating what our boot collection will look like come September! While we wait to see what our favourite high street retailers and discount websites will have to offer we also have our eye on the latest new arrival from the cult-creating Parisian power femme, Isabel Marant, whose latest wedged offering has left us somewhat baffled. Is it a boot? Is it a snoot (sneaker-boot)? Or maybe it’s a French glamour-oozing wedge hidden behind camouflaging straps to give it a du jour sporty slant? Whatever it is, it’s called Scarlet, and its here to stay. Taking a fashion week-appropriate approach to the notoriously stylish Isabel Marant sneakers, the a Scarlet boot (£815) comes with a hazard warning: Goes with anything. Addiction is a major possibility. Encased in leather, suede and calf hair, the Scarlet boot brings a serious meaning to the chunky Velcro strap, whilst keeping an air of French nonchalance about it. Tempted to touch? We don’t blame you, but do rationalise your decision with our Yay and Nay pointers below, before sending your Amex in to the abyss of fashion expenditure! Yay Comfortable heel: Ahh, the comfort of a stable wedge heel is unmatched. No more hobbling for the sake of fashion. Sporty-smart mix: If you’re a fan of the sport-luxe trend, but don’t want to translate it too literally when dressing, this boot-trainer hybrid is perfect for dipping into Isabel Marant’s sneaker trend without selling your soul to gym-appropriate footwear. Universal colour: Is there really anything in your wardrobe that couldn’t possibly go with this colour?  Nay Poor weatherproof upper: Although leather gets better with every wear, suede and calf hair can prove a textured disaster […]

Maggie Gyllenhaal vs. Demi Lovato…Who wore Isabel Marant better?

With everyone jetting off to sun-splashed vacation spots, and thanks to the partial heatwave we’ve become comfortably accustomed to, here in Blighty, it’s no surprise pretty summer dresses are on the up! And this week’s fash-off is no exception: Maggie Gyllenhaal and Demi Lovato grace our eyes in the gorgeous Isabel Marant ‘Samuel’ dress, reminding us just why we love boho-inspired summer style so much. Maggie was the first to step out in the ‘Samuel’ dress back in April, when she attended the Sundance Institute Theatre Program Benefit in New York. Pairing the balloon-sleeved, paisley-print dress – which is subtly nipped in at the waist with a tasselled leather belt – with a red lip and midi heels, Maggie is the vision of how we want to look, strolling lazily through sleepy holiday cities. Going up against Maggie in the style stakes is Demi Lovato, as she took to The X Factor LA auditions in the same dress. Attending the auditions with fellow judges Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland, Demi opted for a braided updo, ankle-strap Schutz pumps and a simple black leather belt to complete her look. A billowy summer dress can throw us when it comes to picking our favourite look, but this week’s fash-off winner by far is…Maggie Gyllenhaal! We love the summer-perfect vibe her look exudes, and that cropped haircut is deal sealer! Demi looks great, too, but the pushed-up belt and sharp pumps bring a harsh edge to what should be a softer look. Which look wins for you?

Isabel Marant collaborates with H&M!

Miranda Kerr and Kate Moss are two of her most famous (not to mention beautiful) fans, but now it looks like the rest of us can step out in an Isabel Marant design too as she is joining forces with H&M for what we know will be an epic collaboration. How good is that? We can’t wait to see what the French designer, i.e she of those effortlessly chic yet contemporary and ethnic collections, has up her sleeve for her collaboration with the Swedish retailer. “I am creating something real, that women want to wear in their everyday lives, with a certain carelessness, which I think is very Parisian: you dress up, but do not pay too much attention and still look sexy,” Isabel said. “The collection is infused with this kind of easiness and attitude. Everything can be mixed following one’s own instincts: my take on fashion is all about personality.” We can expect to see the H&M x Isabel Marant collaboration (which will include clothes and accessories for both men and women!) launch on November 14th – book the day off work and don’t forget where you put the tent after the summer festivals because you’re going to want to queue all night for this one; we predict an instant sell-out! Love or hate: Isabel Marant manly suede and leather fringed boots

Ok, we love Isabel Marant. Her collections are effortlessly cool, laced with that Je ne sais quoi that’s made the designer a firm favourite with fashion fans the world over. You can tell a Marant piece a mile off: whether it be her trademark hot pant denim shorts or, this season, her Navajo-style chunky knit jumpers – or, of course, these boots! Incredibly distinct in a wide, wader slouchy boot shape and featuring a fringed trim, these boots certainly make a statement. But are they too much? The cascading fringing itself brings the boot into strong love it or hate it territory – some may find it chic, others may find it a bit too country and western. Then there’s the slouchy shape to also consider. Totally cool or completely unflattering? And, if we’re being really picky, cream isn’t the most practical colour to don when it comes to footwear – but then again, that probably doesn’t matter when you’re going for a look as strong as this. So, what do you think? To statement boot, or to not statement boot? http://www.mytheresa.com/uk_en/manly-suede-and-leather-fringed-boots.html”>Isabel Marant Manly Suede and Leather Fringed Boots, £970, available at mytheresa.

Lunchtime buy: Isabel Marant Yosemite alpaca Navajo cardigan

Paris Fashion Week ended the month-long fashion processions yesterday, and in homage to iconic Parisian designer Isabel Marant, who showed her spring/summer collection at the weekend, we’re coveting this Navajo cardigan from her AW11 collection this week. The Marant girl is the cooler-than-cool chick who can just throw on a jumper and a pair of shorts and look like something straight out of a rock ‘n’ roll music video. This rich cream chunky knit with black, red and yellow Navajo jacquard detailing is one of those pieces every girl can slip on snuggle up in. Its thick knit offers a bundle of practical winter warmth whilst its tribal red, black and yellow loose threads promise to see us right through to the festival fields next summer – quite a novelty, we think you’ll agree. The South American-inspired Navajo fabric featured again on Marant’s spring 2012 runway at the weekend, so you’ll already be one step ahead of the style pack, too. Time to invest in some Parisian chic, we think. Mais, oui! Isabel Marant Yosemite Alpaca Navajo Cardigan, £635.00, available at Matches.

Lunchtime buy: Etoile Isabel Marant Quidor hooded trench

Well well, hasn’t Isabel Marant gone and done it this time? Just as we thought we’d seen all the great autumn coats to chose from this year, we catch a glimpse of this olive-hued trench, and all bets are off. The thing we love most is the attention to detail by Marant – from wooden buttons off-setting the muted shades to the flattering arrangements of the pockets and the contrasting turn-up of the cropped sleeves. The oversized lapels look cosy for facing those harsh British winds, and as an added bonus, the hood is detachable to work with all our weather worries. These days a coat needs to work for our money, and at 40% off its original price, this one definitely does. Paired with this season’s camel trousers, that’s our pre-winter worries over. £177 at theOutnet.com

The Spring/Summer 2020 Fashion Trends We’ll Be Wearing

Yes, we’ve had an onslaught of storms. Yes, the rainfall seems like it’s never-ending. And yes, it’s bitterly cold…BUT, we’ve spied some daffodils starting to bloom. Which is one of the best telltale signs that spring is on its way. And while Fashion Week is in full swing and providing us with inspiration for autumn/winter 2020, naturally we’re still in the process of planning our wardrobes for spring.  So what can we expect for the new season ahead? Well, we have the usual floral prints to contend with. Obvious, but worth mentioning anyway. And thanks to designers including Balmain, Maison Margiela, and Dries Van Noten, polka dots are going to be everywhere, along with feminine tailoring, embroidery designs, exaggerated collars, bucket hats, and crochet to name a few.  Now, while there are some trends we’ll be steering clear of because let’s face it, we’re not supermodels and can’t pull off everything. Sigh. There are certain trends that we wouldn’t forgive ourselves for not trying. Ahead, we highlight the spring trends we’ll be wearing along with must-have pieces to complete the look.  WAISTCOATS  You’d be forgiven if every time you pictured a waistcoat you immediately thought of Kate Moss circa mid-2000s, in her famous signature shorts and knee-high boots. And while designers such as Anthony Vaccarello did send models down the catwalk in gorgeous tiny waistcoats, thankfully other versions of the waistcoat included a more grown-up, looser style as seen specifically at Armani and Hermes.  We11done wool-blend blazer available at Net-A-Porter  Double-breasted gilet available at Mango NEON 80’s trends always make a comeback every season in some shape or form. This spring/summer it’s back in full force in the way of fluorescent hues.  Vibrant, attention-grabbing, and fun, whether it’s a flirty lime green dress as seen at Valentino or head-to-toe electric […]

For starters we’re loving this burgundy offering from Isabel Marant and Gianvito Rossi’s slouchy ‘Cecile’ ankle boots. However, if the eighties isn’t really your thing, take inspiration from the Victorian era with these vintage velvet boots by Rupert Sanderson or these swoon-worthy, lace-up boots by Chloe. Whatever your style preference, we’ve put together an edit of the best ankle boots for autumn that are certainly worth the investment. [Image]

What to Wear to a Charity Event?

What the North East may lack in sunshine, it more than makes up for in style. The area has a rich history of statement fashion and pioneering design. Of course, true style comes from one’s ability to tailor their look to any occasion, and with Amilio Couture’s Charity Fashion Show just around the corner, it is important to know how to bring the best out of yourself for such a prestigious event. Amilio Couture’s Charity Fashion Show is being hosted by St James’ Park, Newcastle, on Thursday 30 July, and is being held to help raise money for Children with Cancer UK. As well as being for a great cause, the event also gives you the chance to see Amilio Couture’s summer range, while enjoying a champagne reception, canapés, a Toni and Guy goodie bag on arrival, and a prize raffle. Perhaps the most exciting element of the night, though, is choosing what to wear! Charity events call for a particular type of fashion, where a balance of style and elegance must be perfectly calculated to not only dress appropriately, but to turn heads. With the charity fashion show being a North East event, we have kindly been supplied with some advice from Jules B, a local fashion boutique. Here are a few garments and accessories that would guarantee your status as the belle of the charity ball: The Little Black Dress — Versus Versace Mini Dress For the classic formal-chic look, the little black dress cannot be overlooked. Clinging to all the right places, the dress is flexible in that it can form part of sophisticated and casual ensembles. It is the perfect garment for a charity event, especially for those who value comfort as well as glamour. For a designer LBD, the Versus Versace cut-out mini dress is […]

Five Minutes With Supermodel And Actress Molly Sims

We dare you to not love supermodel and actress Molly Sims. Her Instagram account alone will have you falling head over heels. Not only is she absolutely stunning but she’s incredibly inspirational. Plus, she’s got so many lifestyle tips up her sleeve and seems to balance her life so unbelievably well, that we’re convinced she’s as close to superwoman as one can get. Lucky for us, Molly is very generous with all she’s learnt over the years and recently released a beautifully illustrated book packed with lots of easy & practical fashion, beauty, fitness and health secrets. It’s a brilliant read if we do say so ourselves and worth every penny. We caught up with Molly to find out more about the woman behind the everyday supermodel. What does your daily routine consist of?  My day starts the moment Brooks wakes up. If its early enough I get a little snuggle time in by bringing him into our bed first thing.  Then we go downstairs where I make breakfast…muffins and pancakes are my specialty!!  I make his lunch and we get him ready for school. I drop him off before 9am and then I dive head first into work, emails and all that good stuff.  Brooks comes home at noon and he takes a nap and I do my best to get as much work done as I can before he wakes up from his nap. Brooks typically has an afternoon activity like swimming, gym or cooking class.  By the time he’s back home I like (and try) to have all my work done so he and I can spend some time together reading books and playing before dinner time.  Then it’s bath time and before you know it he’s off to bed and then we start it all over again in the […]

Cameron Diaz does casual chic in Frame Denim jeans

We appear to be having a bit of a denim obsession at the moment, so we may as well run with it. For those of you who don’t think jeans can ever look chic and will always look out of place on a red carpet, then we urge you to look to Cameron Diaz for an excellent and jean-spirational look. The actress attended the Sex Tape photocall at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills last night, and looked the epitome of casual chic in the process. She wore some rolled up Frame Denim jeans which contributed to the casual factor, and smartened up with a chic and totally en-vogue black blazer from The Row. Gold Isabel Marant pumps and a natural blow dry completed her effortlessly cool look perfectly. Jeans doubters – has this looked swayed you?

Get Lindsay Lohan’s The Tonight Show look

Lindsay Lohan’s antics might not always be something we want to emulate, but the actress does have a pretty impressive wardrobe that we can’t help but last after from time to time. We adored the outfit she wore as she was leaving The Tonight Show in New York – top to toe, it was pretty perfect. We’d love to recreate LiLo’s look, especially now the weather is starting to brighten up and white jeans are slowly but surely becoming more sartorially acceptable again. Here’s how to get Lindsay’s look: Talia v-neck jumper, £294.99, Rag & Bone available at Jules B Ebury soft large bag, £995, Anya Hindmarch available at Monnier Freres Super slim fit white jeans, £39.99, Mango available at House of Fraser Poppy pumps, £319.05, Isabel Marant available at Far Fetch

Ruined: Runway to High Street looks that were destroyed in the process

Imagine something you hold so close to your heart taken away, replicated a million and one times (substandardly), then force-fed to the masses? Something like this, sadly, happened to the inimitable Isabel Marant. In an article by Fashionista, Marant reflects (read: complains) on the effect of her reigning wedge sneaker being replicated, rather recklessly, by the High Street and other designers. Referring to the rip-offs as “super-ugly,” the designer said: “I don’t wear them as often as I [used to] because I see too [many bad copies] in the street. I’m not saying mine are the most beautiful shoes, but they have a certain [style]. And on the weekends, I’m so happy to have them because I feel so good in them. I don’t want to throw them out.” Sad times for Bobby et Betty, non? After all, she’s the master behind that Parisian cool-girl aesthetic every fashion girl and her mother seek to emulate. And, although she’s still “selling a lot,” the far-reaching consequences of High Street copies is a heavyhearted tale – even for seasoned designers, whom all know the fate of a bestseller. So, as an aid to soothe Madame Marant’s heartache over her beloved leg-lengtheners being cloned by the dozen, we’ve picked out five other runway hits that exploded onto the high street, took over our wardrobes, and left a bad taste in their designer parents’ mouths. Read on, High Street lovers. Slogan tees: We blame the Acne and 3.1 Phillip Lim spring/summer 2013 shows for planting the seed of slogan tee addiction in our minds. After their runway debut, the likes of New Look and ASOS got in on the action, too. The result: more ‘meh’ than look-at-me Leopard print: Oh, this is a fine animal-print line to tread. Running the gamut from doable to […]

Looking for Kate – the Kate Moss documentary

We thought 2013 was Kate Moss’s year what with her getting a Special Recognition gong at the British Fashion Awards and covering Playboy’s 60th Anniversary issue, but it looks like 2014 is going to be just as – if not more – awesome. It’s just been revealed that our fave Croydon gal is the subject of a candid documentary due to air later this month on French TV, rather aptly entitled Looking for Kate, which will coincide to her 40th birthday. How good is that? The documentary will reportedly cover her impressive career with insights from designer Isabel Marant and photographer Peter Lindbergh among others, and we’ll also get to look at the ups and downs of her personal life too, so we know it’s going to be an action packed piece of television. Vogue Paris reports that we’ll be able to look “into some of the darker aspects of the woman whose face is known all over the world, but whose story remains shrouded in mystery.” Sounds pretty exciting; let’s hope it makes its way onto British TV, or at the very least the internet, very soon! Looking for Kate airs on January 12th on Paris Première. [Telegraph]

What is fashion? Is it art, culture, or advertising?

What do you imagine when someone utters the word ‘fashion’? Unadulterated glamour? Power? Exploitation, maybe? It’s something we’ve recently been pondering, given our affection for this industry, and a term that holds a specific, heartfelt meaning for each of us. In the opening scenes of the 1998 film, Gia – a biopic that trails the tragic life of supermodel Gia Carangi, whose meteoric rise to modelling fame in the late 1970s, and equally rapid demise into a dark world of addiction shocked the fashion world – the character of Anna Wintour sums up the heartbreaking narrative of the film – and Gia’s fate – in one sweeping statement: “Fashion isn’t art. It’s not even culture. Fashion is advertising. And for every dollar you earn, someone pays the price.” Knockout words from the mouth of the monster lady of fashion, but do they hold any truth? Gia’s character, played by a dewy-eyed Angelina Jolie, almost convinces us of their accuracy. Disturbed, overworked and, at the zenith of her career, drug-addled, young Gia can’t seem to escape from this vicious schedule; a merry-go-round of pushy agents, roguish photographers, and a disregarding mother who isn’t phased by her daughter’s drug habit and downward spiral. Gia ultimately appears to pay the price. But how true are Wintour’s words? And who really pays the price? To work it out, we have to look at her statement in its component parts. What is fashion? Magazine editors tell us that these tomes serve an inspirational purpose; isn’t this exactly what art does? We’re taken with a captivating canvas, just as we are with a shoot featuring new season wares in a far-flung locale. Magazines tell us what to watch, where to dine, and what to read; that’s culturing the discerning fashion consumer, who wants to be seen […]

“I’m not a big high-end fashion shopper” – Kate Hudson, Harper’s Bazaar US December

Wow, Kate Hudson looks incredible on Harper’s Bazaar US’s December issue doesn’t she? We’ve always had a massive girl crush on Ms Hudson, and this cover pretty much proves why. The great thing about Kate Hudson is, despite her roaring success in films and fashion, not to mention her stunning good looks, she remains pretty humble and strikes us as the typical girl next door. So, even though she looks phenomenal in all her high fashion finery in these pictures, she has assured us that she would never be able to afford them, or any of her red carpet dresses, herself… “People think we own all these dresses, but we borrow them. I can’t afford to buy that stuff,” she said to clear up any confusion.” “There are certain things I splurge on, but it’s very rare, especially when you have two kids and school tuition. I’m not a big high-end fashion shopper. I wish I could but the truth is things are just so expensive. Before Isabel Marant was a million dollars and famous, I used to go to her store in Paris and go crazy, it was so affordable.” Good on you Kate Hudson for clearing that up, just in case any young and impressionable fashionistas got the wrong end of the stick. You can read the rest of Kate’s interview and see more pics of her in gorgeous clothes – which don’t belong to her, just in case you weren’t listening – in the December issue of Harper’s bazaar US.

First look at the Kardashian x Lipsy collection

No beating around the bush, let’s get straight down to business and check out the first look at the new Kardashian x Lipsy collection that we’ve been itching to see as soon as the collaboration was announced. Kardashian girls Kourtney, Kim and Khloe can be seen proudly and seductively posing for Terry Richardson with some of the pieces in their new line, and as we predicted, it’s all about the glamorous partywear! Perfect for the upcoming party season! So what inspired the girls on their new line, you ask? Apparently some of our favourite high end designers if we are to believe Kim Kardashian… “Valentino and Isabel Marant aren’t really our style, but their influence is reflected in the collection,” Kim said. “That idea of casual comfort that people love inspired the fabrics – there’s a lot of stretch. “You know an Alaïa dress will hold and suck you in? I wanted to make pieces like that, pieces to make you feel really good about yourself.” Wearing Alaïa would indeed make us feel great about ourselves, and we have a feeling we might look and feel pretty spesh in the Kardashian for Lipsy collection too. With its bold red colours and leopard print designs, the collection’s definitely an attention-grabbing one to say the least. We didn’t expect any less! The Kardashian x Lipsy collection officially launches on October 24th. Who’s excited? [Vogue]

Steep vs. Cheap: Embellished mini skirt

Afraid of an unflattering midi skirt? Worried your derrière won’t be up to scratch, squeezed into a leather pencil skirt? Let us introduce you this week’s Steep vs. Cheap option, and your go-between sartorial saviour, the mini skirt. Upping the glam ante, this updated autumn staple (who said minis were the reserve of hot summer days?) comes decorated with beautiful embellishment, and we can’t wait to pair it with our cosiest knit and an on-trend pair of ankle boots. Coming in at the pricey end this week is the Loop Studded Twill mini skirt by Isabel Marant (£630). Low-slung on the hips, this mini promises a healthy dose of Parisian cool with a rock ‘n’ roll edge – the flattering wrap front detail is a total winner! But parting with a hefty sum of £630 may leave your bank balance feeling as ‘mini’ as this pretty skirt! But if you want in on the thigh-grazing skirt trend and can’t justify forking out your rainy day savings, just turn to high street haunt Zara for your fix. Cashing in at a pocket pleasing £39.99, the Jacquard Beaded Waist mini skirt also features a wrap front, whilst the bead detailing gives the illusion of an embellished belt – the perfect piece to take you into autumn. Will you splurge or save?

Rise of the luxury basics

Forming the foundations of a well-honed wardrobe, basics play an important part in everything from outfit recycling to look-building. Those vital pieces we return to repeatedly, without the fear of being accused of the ‘same outfit’ by fellow fashion friends, are crucial to making our wardrobes work that bit harder. But the recent return to comfort and causal cool in fashion has inevitably seen a rise in demand for these basic clothing items, marking them out as something of a luxury product. Take our current sneaker obsession, for example; upscale department store, Liberty has reworked the classic Nike Air Max 1 trainer with its iconic print, and now we’re keeping them on our feet post-work commute. Isabel Marant’s continuous stream of reworked £300+ wedge sneakers are instant sell-outs on luxury e-tail sites such as Net-a-Porter and Matches, and a plain cotton tee is no longer a snatch-and-grab lunchtime buy at Topshop, but rather a well thought out James Perse or T by Alexander Wang affair, cashing in at £60 and above. Whatever happened to keeping basics basic (pardon the pun)? In a time where print and maximalism overload seems to reign freely, are we all scurrying back to the neutral nonchalance of the Nineties, minus the grunge factor? A clean style slate is always a winner, especially if you don’t want to conform to a particular trend tribe, but are the upscale prices and luxe labels automatically attached to plain garments that don’t look much different to their high street alternatives justified at all? (Cue: £11,000 diamond skinny jeans.) We guess the runways are partly to blame, thanks to the likes of Balenciaga, Alexander Wang and Céline championing the minimalist movement, making us want to ditch our Mary Katrantzou prints. But if the fashion gods are dictating this newfound love […]

Emma Watson is fresh-faced and fab for her fourth Teen Vogue cover

Teen Vogue can’t seem to get enough of Emma Watson, as her August 2013 cover is the fourth time she has posed for the magazine. We think we see the appeal! Emma was shot by Boo George, and is looking fresh faced and fabulous on the cover and throughout the editorial. The 23-year-old Bling Ring actress (and former Harry Potter actress, but that goes without saying, right?) is wearing an enviable selection of clothes in her shoot, including Isabel Marant houndstooth skinny jeans, a Saint Laurent coat, and a bold 3.1 Phillip Lim top. Well that’s the wardrobe that was selected for her, but what about her personal style choices? Where does she like to shop herself? “I shop at Aritzia and Topshop, and I also love A.P.C. and 3.1 Phillip Lim,” she told the mag. “Chanel is amazing, and I wore a really beautiful black Dior dress recently that I thought was really cool. And I love Christopher Kane, Peter Pilotto…I’m always keeping an eye out for people who are new or up-and-coming.” We definitely don’t have the funds to fill our wardrobe with Chanel, but it’s nice to know she loves the British High Street too! Emma’s Teen Vogue issue is out July 2nd. Get it before it’s gone! [Fashion Gone Rogue]

Rick Owens collaborates with Adidas – but not for the reason you think

It’s no secret that we love a good high/low collaboration. We’re still trying to digest the Isabel Marant for H&M collaboration that was announced earlier this week, but lo and behold another one has come to our attention. This time, courtesy of Rick Owens and Adidas. We didn’t see this one coming, we won’t lie – mainly because he already has a very successful range of basketball shoes! So what prompted this collaboration, you ask? In a nutshell, Rick Owens wanted some fancy footwear that he could go running in – and Adidas could hardly say no, could it? “I work out like a fiend but I hate, hate, hate cardio,” Rick  said. “I realised I’m in my fifties now and I need to do something for my heart and lungs. So, I’ve got to start running. I thought to myself, ‘What shoes am I going to wear running?’ I can’t wear my big chunky basketball shoes – I’d look like a dinosaur running through the Tuileries. “Adidas is a classic brand and it reminds me of Eighties hip-hop. They just have an authentic, old-school realness that appeals to me.” Well, there you go. The collection will include six styles for men and four for women, and will retail for around $400 to $500. You can catch the first peek at this amazing collab on June 27th during the Rick Owens menswear show. [WWD]

The Top 10 Summer Sandals Edit

Slipping into summer sandals marks the beginning of taking pedicured (baby) steps into the sunnier climes – or so we like to hope! And just like we’ve shed the knits, winter coats and layer upon layer of casual t-shirts, it’s high time we did the same in the shoe department. Summer sandals took several guises on the spring/summer 2013 catwalks; from mid-heels to super-embellished, metallics to lovely lace-ups, and we couldn’t be more excited to start the somewhat ritualistic pairing of shoes and summer outfits! It all depends on the look and comfort level you’re going for. Often, summer sandals are associated with gladiator-like, flat styles, but don’t limit yourself to heel-less options. Our top picks aren’t necessarily sandals you want to strut around in, but more of beach-to-bar style. We’ve done the handiwork of rounding up 10 of the best summer sandals, now its your turn to start the outfit imagining! Marc by Marc Jacobs sandal, £300, Shoescribe: This tri-block colour, mid-heel sandal is perfect for pairing with a floaty dress for a late-night summer soiree. Isabel Marant Elvis sandal, £370, Matches: This summer is set to be summer’s biggest hit. Wear with denim cut-off shorts and a louche tee for a relaxed summer look. Matilda woven sandal, £30, Topshop: Nothing says summer quite like a woven piece, and these pretty, feminine sandals hit the spot! Faster studded flat sandal, £25, Asos: These flat sandals have a Christopher Kane-esque feel to them, and we’re not complaining! Comfort and style rolled into one. Primrose leopard animal print multi strap sandal, £25, Stylistpick: If you’re stuck on colours for summer, this sandals mixes up print and pastels to perfection. Pair with a floaty maxi dress for beach-to-bar style. Christian Louboutin Druide sandal, £595, Net-a-Porter: These mid-heel sandals scream WOW! Then again, anything […]

Steep vs. Cheap: Strappy metallic sandal

Although we’re still living in winter when it comes to the weather, there’s nothing to stop the constant stream of sun-soaked fashion thoughts flooding into our minds evey time we open our closets. With out entire summer wardrobe staring back at us, waiting patiently to be worn, we can’t stop adding to our already burgeoning collection of sunny wares, and this week’s Steep vs. Cheap buy is no exception. Forcing us to step out of our snow-proof boots and flash our pedicures is the strappy summer sandal, in all its pretty, metallic glory! At the steep end of the style spectrum this week is the Isabel Marant shiny strappy sandal, cashing in at a bank balance diminishing £550! The stacked mid-heel and metallic strap detail will ensure these beauties deliver a sharp edge to any summery ensemble, but won’t leave behind much change for a 99. On the slightly more frugal side of things, we spied a similar version at Zara, for a not-so-earth-shattering £59.99! The patent sandal promises all the sartorial slickness of its high end counterpart, and even boasts a slightly smaller heel for those not keen on ‘fashion feet’. Which ones will you slip into for summer? Steep: Isabel Marant strappy metallic sandal, £550, available at Matches Cheap: Patent sandal, £59.99, Zara

Your Summer Essentials Checklist: The Need Now Edit

Not sure whether you noticed, but we’ve already had our flash-in-the-pan summer this past bank holiday. Temperatures went double- digit on us, as sun-starved Brits flocked to parks, and any other open space we could find where the sun would feed our winter-ravaged complexions. However, now that we’re back to the climatic reality we’re used to living with this side of the pond (wholly unfair), we’re not letting grey skies and constant downpours dampen our spirits (pun intended), and instead drawing up bright and bold summer shopping lists ready for when the sun finally appears again! To make the process of leaving behind the comfort of your winter wardrobe (we know, it’s a sorry state of affairs in May!), we’ve picked out 15 summer essentials every discerning style maven needs in her wardrobe this season. From the eclectically printed short, ideal for pairing with a smart blazer, as it is with a louche tee, to pretty printed jeans and the perfect day-to-night blouse option; our need now edit has all your sartorial wants and needs covered. Going up Punk fever: The punk revival was well and truly felt at this year’s Met Ball, with added thanks to Miley Cyrus’s outlandish barnet and Madonna’s flesh flashing shenanigans. But will it last? We hope the magical era is here to stay for good, so we can break fashion rules and paint our (not so flat) stomachs with anti-gun slogans. Check out our Punk inspo moodboard for your fix. Gatsby fever: Taking a detour from crazy hair and garish outfits, the other era the fashion world is currently dabbling in is the Roaring Twenties. With Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby set for release next week in the UK, expect a rise in opulent hair accessories, art deco prints and more flapper dresses you can shake a jazz dance move at! Shop our top Gatsby-inspired pieces here. Festival kick off: Although the major headliners are taking place smack bang in the middle of summer, several niche festivals are taking place this month, which can only mean one thing; getting your festival wardrobe into gear. Check out our top 10 picks here. Embellished tees: Luxe tees have been gaining momentum amongst the fash pack for some time now, so when we laid our peepers on the embellished 3.1 Phillip Lim Nueva York tee , we were sold at hello. The new low sandal: Or, dubbed the ‘Elvis’ sandal, thanks to the rhinestone detail; embrace summer’s new take on the gladiator sandal but with a flattering (read: pain-free) heel. Look to Isabel Marant for a high end hit, or Zara and Mango do equally stylish, pocket-friendly versions. Going down Glove sleeves: Come on, Kim! What were you thinking? Dressing to flatter your bump, we understand, is priority, but hand concealing doesn’t really come in to it. Enough said. Winter coats in spring: After experiencing […]

The Great Gatsby Edit: Top picks even Daisy Buchanan would approve!

So, The Great Gatsby fever has well and truly gripped Britain, ahead of its UK release on May 16, and we couldn’t help but sneakily slide into the action a slice of decadent Twenties fashion. With no less than 40 outfits from the film painstakingly slaved over by none other than the very high priestess of fashion herself, Miuccia Prada, we can’t begin to put into words the excitement we’re feeling on a sartorial level! So, to celebrate the release of Baz Luhrmann’s reinterpretation of the F.Scott Fitzgerald classic, we’ve picked out our favourite pieces inspired by the Gatsby era. But we’re not talking literal, fancy dress-esque pieces here, rather separates that hark back to the Roaring Twenties, but with a fresh and wearable feel. Capture Daisy Buchanan’s glamour with plenty of embellishment, art deco-inspired finishes and enough feather trims and luxe accessories to guarantee bagging your very own Jay Gatsby! Shop our top Twenties picks below. Tucker Gold Sequin Embroidered Cropped Jacket, £325, My Wardrobe: The perfect cover up with a retro feel; slip this over a slinky LBD and dance the night away. Stiletto vs. Sneaker: Is fashion’s ugly shoe taking over?

When Isabel Marant presented the fashion world with her deceptively stylish shoe-cum-trainer-cum-leg elongating wedge, we thought the bane of our lives (sore ‘fashunn’ feet) had forever been banished. But no, this whirlwind industry never stops, and before you know it, there’s another, slightly less flattering style stumping the Betty/Bobby/Bazil off its coveted throne. Welcome, fashion sneakers. Not trainers, but sneakers. If you’re wondering whether we’ve totally lost it and suddenly realised that sneakers exist, then let us reassure you that we haven’t. Their existence isn’t being argued over here, more the du jour status they’ve recently acquired. One sweeping glance at Tommy Ton’s exceptional handiwork over at Style.com, where street style dollies are dressed in new season Balenciaga and Fendi, and you’ll soon notice a pattern: pristinely put together atop, as your eyes slowly work down to assess the choice of shoe, you’ll be un/pleasantly surprised. Pulling together their fashion week-worthy look is a humble pair of, wait for it, lace up sneakers. Be it the retro revival of the New Balance 410’s, or a pair of colour-pop, personalised NikeiD trainers that speak volumes about the newfound preference of these fashionistas to sport flouro-doused feet; sneakers are back with a flat-footed vengeance, and we’re not to sure how we feel about it. Offering respite from the ferociously sore balls of our heel ravaged feet, sneakers do come with several podiatric benefits. But it takes a lot to absorb the shock when we spot an stylish, office ready ensemble kicked into reality with a pair of sneakers. And let’s face it: as fashion has a chronic habit of reinvention, could this be a more discreet way of stubbornly waving goodbye to the properirty of stiletto-ed feet, ‘allowing’ something closer to the ground to take its place (pardon the pun)? The purpose of […]

Celebrities Rocking the Wedge Sneaker Trend

[noskim] Forget Manolos and Louboutins, this season there’s only one way celebs are looking to get their high heel fix: with wedge sneakers. Hollywood A-listers aren’t just wearing their favourite pair of kicks to the gym these days; lately they’ve been spotted incorporating sneakers into their wardrobes in ultra fashionable ways.
