Kate Mara is Worst Dressed of the Week in Prada

We feel pretty blah when a good dress gone bad situation occurs. Like in this instance, when Kate Mara decided to bring a little Prada spring 2014 glory to the red carpet at the ‘House Of Cards’ season two screening in L.A. Prada, ALL HAIL Prada! That’s the usual way to welcome a look from Lady Miuccia, as it’s always so breathtaking, but Kate’s embellished dress featuring a hyper face motif just missed the mark. The thigh-grazing dress features heavy black embellishment, with a cut-away section for extra cleavage breathing space (well, that’s what we call it). Styled with dainty ankle-strap sandals and slick, side-swept hair, Kate completed her look with sultry eyes, nude lips and a matching Prada clutch. The accessories, hair and make-up are on point, but the lack of dress length, extra boob-show and a hefty dose of look-at-me sequin and bead adornment are too much to throw into one dress. Maybe a longer hemline, or doing away with the cut-out detail could rescue this look, but as it stands, it’s a miss for us. Do you think a toned down version of this look could’ve worked? [Image]

Kate Mara lands Best Dressed of the Week in Dolce & Gabbana

Shimmering her way to the spot this week is Kate Mara, who bedazzled us with a stunning metallic-silver Dolce & Gabbana frock. Taking to the red carpet in New York to promote her new TV series, ‘House of Cards’, Kate looked beautiful in the lace frock complete with a smattering of embellishment and frill detail on the neckline, hem and sleeves. Completing her red carpet-ready look was a slicked back bun, Brian Atwood platform sandals and a small box clutch. A subtle makeup palette and zero accessories were well thought through choices to accompany a Dolce & Gabbana look, as the fashion house usually puts out high-octane, typical Milanese glamour. What do you think of Kate’s look? [Image] With sister Rooney also proving a great contender for BDOTW in show-stopping red carpet ensembles this week, we think Kate’s look-at-me style has laid any sibling rivalry to rest. Safe to say, Ms. Mara, you’ve definitely played your cards right (‘scuse the pun)!

Love your style: Kate Mara

Actress and girl about town Kate Mara is best known for her work on 24 and Brokeback Mountain.  A fixture on the LA and NY party circuit, Mara knows how to make an entrance.  Whether she’s front row at Zac Posen looking darling and demure, at a Chanel event dazzling in their latest couture collection, adding some much needed va-va-voom to the red carpet in eye popping body-con, or proving red heads can in fact wear red and get away with it at Sundance, Kate always manages to look cool, calm, and collected.  Look and learn.

MaxMara reissues Kate Middleton’s coat, names it after her

Remember that chic beige MaxMara coat Kate Middleton wore last year? Remember how it – like most things the Duchess of Cambridge steps out in – sold out almost instantly after she was spotted in it? Well, MaxMara now has made a whole lot more of the virgin wool and cashmere mix coat, and is renaming it the ‘Kate’ in her honour. Seems fair, seeing as she no doubt helped shift a few coats by wearing the original. If you’re quick (and we really do mean quick!) you can head to the website right now and get your very own for £875 before they all sell out again. Even though it’s supposed to be one of the hottest days of the year today and long coats are the last wardrobe piece we should be thinking about, two sizes have already sold out completely, so go! Don’t even finish reading the rest of this post… go forth and shop before it’s too late! [Image]

Kate Middleton wraps baby bump in Max Mara

The Duchess of Cambridge definitely has that pregnancy glow if her public appearance at London’s Hope House yesterday afternoon was anything to go by. Although she’s still in the early stages of pregnancy, Kate Middleton dressed like a mummy-to-be, and concealed her tiny bump in a chic grey long-sleeved wrap dress by Max Mara. She teamed it with her trusty black pumps, drop earrings, super-glossy locks, and a natural winning smile. Kate looks positively radiant, and it looks like she might have got over that pesky morning sickness, and indeed the shock of dealing with those pictures that were sneakily taken of her on her Caribbean holiday with Prince William a few weeks ago. We know Kate will be cutting back on the public appearances and taking it easy throughout her pregnancy, so we’re excited to see which designer she chooses to dress her bump in next time. If wrap dresses are her thing, we hope a nice Diane von Furstenberg number will be considered, as the designer is after all the Queen of wrap dresses! What do you think of Kate’s maternity fashion so far?

Kate vs. Diana…Who wore red better during the New Zealand tour?

Wore what: Kicking off their royal tour of New Zealand, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge landed at Wellington airport’s military terminal yesterday – cutest babe-cessory in tow – looking every inch, well, regal. For the official occasion, Kate chose a striking red Catherine Walker coatdress and matching pillbox hat, and the media was quick to remind everyone of the same occasion, over three decades ago, when the late Princess Diana chose a similar look for the same event. Although hers was a black and red look, complete with a contrasting black clutch, Kate wins for the most adorable royal accessory, hands down. Narrowly avoiding puddles before the world’s media, whilst effortlessly carrying an excited 9-month-old in your arms is no mean feat; and we think Kate did a beyond fantastic job! Unsurprisingly though, this makes the job of choosing a winning look near impossible! Who wins: Famed for her gentle nature and beauty that shied away, Princess Diana’s look for the official visit back in 1983 was a fashion triumph: making coats cool as the centrepiece of a look. And this is a tradition that Kate, too, has carried on. From her M Missoni look as a wedding guest to the Maxmara number named after her; she’s elevated the humble coat’s status to party staple so effortlessly, we all want in. Given her respectful ode to Diana’s legendary wardrobe at such an important event, and the fact that we’re struggling to get over the explosive levels of Prince George’s cuteness; we declare both looks as winners. Do you have a favourite look, or are you, too, stuck on both? [Images: Duchess of Cambridge; Princess Diana]

Looking for Kate – the Kate Moss documentary

We thought 2013 was Kate Moss’s year what with her getting a Special Recognition gong at the British Fashion Awards and covering Playboy’s 60th Anniversary issue, but it looks like 2014 is going to be just as – if not more – awesome. It’s just been revealed that our fave Croydon gal is the subject of a candid documentary due to air later this month on French TV, rather aptly entitled Looking for Kate, which will coincide to her 40th birthday. How good is that? The documentary will reportedly cover her impressive career with insights from designer Isabel Marant and photographer Peter Lindbergh among others, and we’ll also get to look at the ups and downs of her personal life too, so we know it’s going to be an action packed piece of television. Vogue Paris reports that we’ll be able to look “into some of the darker aspects of the woman whose face is known all over the world, but whose story remains shrouded in mystery.” Sounds pretty exciting; let’s hope it makes its way onto British TV, or at the very least the internet, very soon! Looking for Kate airs on January 12th on Paris Première. [Telegraph]

Kate Middleton’s (almost) Marilyn moment in Orla Kiely

Not even the Duchess of Cambridge can change the weather, but we don’t think there are many people who can handle an unscheduled and unappreciated gust of wind quite like the new yummy mummy. Kate Middleton was attending an event for Place2Be – a charity of which she is a Patron – in Canary Wharf yesterday morning, and looked as chic and stylish as ever in a top to toe navy ensemble The Duchess wore a very on-trend pleated navy blue skirt by Orla Kiely, and accessorised with a MaxMara jacket which came in a matching shade of blue. She carried a Russell and Bromley blue suede Muse bag and finished the look off with a gorgeous pair of Alexander McQueen heels in a slightly brighter hue. She could have had an embarrassing Marilyn moment thanks to that pesky wind, but she handled it with the utmost grace and elegance. Oh to be even half as elegant as Kate Middleton…

“I’m not a big high-end fashion shopper” – Kate Hudson, Harper’s Bazaar US December

Wow, Kate Hudson looks incredible on Harper’s Bazaar US’s December issue doesn’t she? We’ve always had a massive girl crush on Ms Hudson, and this cover pretty much proves why. The great thing about Kate Hudson is, despite her roaring success in films and fashion, not to mention her stunning good looks, she remains pretty humble and strikes us as the typical girl next door. So, even though she looks phenomenal in all her high fashion finery in these pictures, she has assured us that she would never be able to afford them, or any of her red carpet dresses, herself… “People think we own all these dresses, but we borrow them. I can’t afford to buy that stuff,” she said to clear up any confusion.” “There are certain things I splurge on, but it’s very rare, especially when you have two kids and school tuition. I’m not a big high-end fashion shopper. I wish I could but the truth is things are just so expensive. Before Isabel Marant was a million dollars and famous, I used to go to her store in Paris and go crazy, it was so affordable.” Good on you Kate Hudson for clearing that up, just in case any young and impressionable fashionistas got the wrong end of the stick. You can read the rest of Kate’s interview and see more pics of her in gorgeous clothes – which don’t belong to her, just in case you weren’t listening – in the December issue of Harper’s bazaar US.

Isabel Marant collaborates with H&M!

Miranda Kerr and Kate Moss are two of her most famous (not to mention beautiful) fans, but now it looks like the rest of us can step out in an Isabel Marant design too as she is joining forces with H&M for what we know will be an epic collaboration. How good is that? We can’t wait to see what the French designer, i.e she of those effortlessly chic yet contemporary and ethnic collections, has up her sleeve for her collaboration with the Swedish retailer. “I am creating something real, that women want to wear in their everyday lives, with a certain carelessness, which I think is very Parisian: you dress up, but do not pay too much attention and still look sexy,” Isabel said. “The collection is infused with this kind of easiness and attitude. Everything can be mixed following one’s own instincts: my take on fashion is all about personality.” We can expect to see the H&M x Isabel Marant collaboration (which will include clothes and accessories for both men and women!) launch on November 14th – book the day off work and don’t forget where you put the tent after the summer festivals because you’re going to want to queue all night for this one; we predict an instant sell-out! Kate Middleton trademarks her name for ‘goods and services’

Kate Middleton is following in Cara Delevingne’s footsteps and is trademarking her name. While our fave Brit tomboy model decided to take legal action to protect her name from being used as a marketing tool though, the Duchess is protecting her famous name for charity. Kate’s organisation, entitled (bear with us) “Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry” has reportedly registered with the Intellectual Property Office for “a number of “goods and services,” including clothing, footwear and headgear. “We included clothing in case we choose, for example, to make T-shirts in years to come, for marathon runners, etc.,” said a royal spokesperson. “Since the name change of the foundation last year, we have been registering our new name and logo in different territories around the world … As part of that process, we have to choose any categories under which we might conceivably operate in the future. “This also protects the foundation against other people using its name illegally.” Sounds fair to us – we call dibs on any amusing T-shirts that come out; if there’s one thing we can’t resist, it’s a good slogan tee. Kate Hudson shines in yellow Versace

Kate Hudson could easily release a book on pretty pregnant style.  From the marathon of stylish outfits she’s worn recently, it’d undoubtedly be a best seller amongst mums-to-be. And at the world premiere of her new movie Something Borrowed Ms. Hudson pulled out all the stops. Wearing a stunning soft canary yellow maxi dress from Versace’s latest collection she managed to look chic and comfortable, demonstrating, once again, that being in your third trimester needn’t mean your style should suffer. The cut and colour are perfect for her growing bump, but we’re also loving the bright blue cocktail ring and cute clutch she accessorised with – and the brand new $300,000 engagement ring from fiancee Matt Belamy on the other hand isn’t bad either. Yep, all’s good in Ms Hudson’s hood. [poll id=”103″]

Love or Hate: Dries Van Noten marabou shrug

I’m all for using a bit of fur to instantly glamorise a look. For me, fur connotes luxury, opulence and grandeur. A perfect example of someone who wears fur well is Kate Moss. When she rocked up at the Isle of Wight festival last year in a vintage fur shawl, she was the girl everybody there wanted to be. Her black and grey number looked super-glam, and even teamed with denim shorts and boots, it made her turn heads. With this in mind, I cannot get my head around Dries Van Noten’s blue shrug. Made from marabou feathers and silk, this shrug is certainly luxurious, but it’s just too fluffy and too… blue. I’m not entirely sure where you would wear it, either. It would be a bit much for daytime and odd against jeans. Even worse, it has the potential to distract from a great dress in the evening. Sorry Dries Van Noten, this is less Kate Moss and more Cookie Monster if you ask me. Dries Van Noten Marabou Shrug, £515, available at Browns. BUY NOW!

The Marie Claire US May issue has five – yes five – individual cover stars!

Brace yourselves – the Marie Claire US May issue is pretty epic. What makes it more epic than the previous issues, you ask? Well, it might have something to do with the five – yes five – gorgeous cover stars that have landed individual covers. And they are, in no particular order as they are all as fabulous as each other: Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o, Elizabeth Olsen, Elle Fanning, Kate Mara and Emilia Clarke. Phew! So what did the ladies have to say inside the mag? A few highlights include Elizabeth Olsen on her famous sisters’ style, Emilia Clarke wanting a huge family, Elle Fanning dishing on her sartorial choices of the past, and Lupita Nyong’o not really “following” fashion… “I wasn’t a follower of fashion,” she told the mag. “It was a world unknown. Then I met my stylist, Micaela Erlanger and we came to interpret my style: clean lines, strong colour. I don’t dress to impress; I don’t feel that pressure.” Each of the girls have their own accompanying editorial images and interviews, so unless you can make a rapid decision on which one to buy, it looks like you’re going to have to get all five issues. We recommend heading to the newsagent in pairs – carrying five magazines is definitely a two-man job!

The Spring/Summer 2020 Fashion Trends We’ll Be Wearing

Yes, we’ve had an onslaught of storms. Yes, the rainfall seems like it’s never-ending. And yes, it’s bitterly cold…BUT, we’ve spied some daffodils starting to bloom. Which is one of the best telltale signs that spring is on its way. And while Fashion Week is in full swing and providing us with inspiration for autumn/winter 2020, naturally we’re still in the process of planning our wardrobes for spring.  So what can we expect for the new season ahead? Well, we have the usual floral prints to contend with. Obvious, but worth mentioning anyway. And thanks to designers including Balmain, Maison Margiela, and Dries Van Noten, polka dots are going to be everywhere, along with feminine tailoring, embroidery designs, exaggerated collars, bucket hats, and crochet to name a few.  Now, while there are some trends we’ll be steering clear of because let’s face it, we’re not supermodels and can’t pull off everything. Sigh. There are certain trends that we wouldn’t forgive ourselves for not trying. Ahead, we highlight the spring trends we’ll be wearing along with must-have pieces to complete the look.  WAISTCOATS  You’d be forgiven if every time you pictured a waistcoat you immediately thought of Kate Moss circa mid-2000s, in her famous signature shorts and knee-high boots. And while designers such as Anthony Vaccarello did send models down the catwalk in gorgeous tiny waistcoats, thankfully other versions of the waistcoat included a more grown-up, looser style as seen specifically at Armani and Hermes.  We11done wool-blend blazer available at Net-A-Porter  Double-breasted gilet available at Mango NEON 80’s trends always make a comeback every season in some shape or form. This spring/summer it’s back in full force in the way of fluorescent hues.  Vibrant, attention-grabbing, and fun, whether it’s a flirty lime green dress as seen at Valentino or head-to-toe electric […]

Meghan Markle Made A Surprise Appearance At The British Fashion Awards 2018

Looking flawlessly beautiful, Meghan Markle took to the stage last night at The British Fashion Awards to present Givenchy’s artistic director Clare Waight Keller with the award for Womenswear Designer of the Year. Speaking to a room filled with celebs including Victoria and David Beckham, Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford and many more, Meghan said, “It is such an honour to be here celebrating British fashion and British fashion designers in my new home of the U.K.” She continued, “As all of you in this room know, we have a deep connection to what we wear. Sometimes, it’s very personal and sometimes it’s emotional. But for me this connection is rooted in, really being able to understand that it’s about supporting and empowering each other, especially as women.” The designer whom was responsible for Meghan’s stunning wedding dress has also been the Duchess of Sussex’s go-to designer for many of her outfits since the big day. Therefore, it was only fitting that the mum-to-be bestowed Waight Keller with the prestigious award. Upon acceptance of her award, Waight Keller said, “This woman is so amazing. I got to know Meghan on such a personal level. To have someone like that trust you on such a personal moment in their life… I can’t thank you enough because it was the most beautiful moment.” Opting for a one-shouldered black velvet Givenchy gown, gold bracelets by Pippa Small and strappy heels by Tamara Mellon, Meghan kept her makeup minimal. She finished off her look with a low bun and black nail polish. Held at the Royal Albert Hall and in partnership with Swarovski, other winners on the night included Kaia Gerber for Model of the Year, Pierpaolo Piccioli took home Designer of the Year and Virgil Abloh won Urban Luxe. What to Wear to a Charity Event?

What the North East may lack in sunshine, it more than makes up for in style. The area has a rich history of statement fashion and pioneering design. Of course, true style comes from one’s ability to tailor their look to any occasion, and with Amilio Couture’s Charity Fashion Show just around the corner, it is important to know how to bring the best out of yourself for such a prestigious event. Amilio Couture’s Charity Fashion Show is being hosted by St James’ Park, Newcastle, on Thursday 30 July, and is being held to help raise money for Children with Cancer UK. As well as being for a great cause, the event also gives you the chance to see Amilio Couture’s summer range, while enjoying a champagne reception, canapés, a Toni and Guy goodie bag on arrival, and a prize raffle. Perhaps the most exciting element of the night, though, is choosing what to wear! Charity events call for a particular type of fashion, where a balance of style and elegance must be perfectly calculated to not only dress appropriately, but to turn heads. With the charity fashion show being a North East event, we have kindly been supplied with some advice from Jules B, a local fashion boutique. Here are a few garments and accessories that would guarantee your status as the belle of the charity ball: The Little Black Dress — Versus Versace Mini Dress For the classic formal-chic look, the little black dress cannot be overlooked. Clinging to all the right places, the dress is flexible in that it can form part of sophisticated and casual ensembles. It is the perfect garment for a charity event, especially for those who value comfort as well as glamour. For a designer LBD, the Versus Versace cut-out mini dress is […]

What a superhero! 2. Nicolas Ghesquière in at Louis Vuitton. Marc Jacobs made headlines when he announced he would be leaving Louis Vuitton after 16 years at the helm. In other related news, Nicolas Ghesquière, who also sensationally left Balenciaga, was announced as his successor, prompting everyone to rethink what the future of the fashion House might hold. http://youtu.be/WDU7zLAd2-U 3. Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars. In general. Her jaw-dropping Dior dress which she apparently only tried on the morning of the Oscars, her epic Oscars win, and her comedic trip on the red carpet while collecting her gold man. And of course, the ability to laugh at herself! 4. The […]

Style Awards: 10 best dressed of 2013

The Oscars, the Grammys, and more red carpet premieres than you can shake a stick at – 2013 definitely gave us some stylish highs and lows. However we’re focusing on the former as opposed to the latter as we were always taught that “if you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say it at all”, and that’s what we’re sticking to. For this post, anyway! We’ve trawled through the style archives to find our ultimate best-dressed stars of 2013, and we’ve finally settled on a top 10. Yes, there were sleepless nights,  arguments, and copious amounts of coffee consumption, but we’re satisfied with our verdict. Let us know if you agree with us, and whether you think we’ve left anyone out. Or given someone a spot they don’t deserve! Jennifer Lawrence in Dior at the Oscars. The belle of the ball, the ultimate Princess living every little girl’s sartorial dream! Angelina Jolie in Saint Laurent at World War Z premiere. Angelina was all-smiles on the red carpet, and we can’t help but smile when looking at this stunning image of her! Taylor Swift in Reem Acra at Winter Whites charity gala. The perfect regal ensemble to wear to sing karaoke with Prince William and Jon Bon Jovi! Cate Blanchett in Alexander McQueen at Blue Jasmine premiere. Cate really wowed on her Blue Jasmine promo tour, but this monochrome creation was our utter favourite. Simply magical! Sandra Bullock in J Mendel at the Venice Film Festival. The ladies in red! Sandra was sexy, smouldering, sharp… and did we already say sexy? Michelle Obama in Jason Wu at the Inauguration Ball. Michelle Obama made Jason Wu’s day year life by once again choosing him to design her gown for the historical event! Rihanna in Azzedine Alaia at the Grammy Awards. Red […]

CFDA Awards 2013: The best dressed!

We all know that awards ceremony red carpet arrivals are just as important as the actual gongs that are received inside – and last night’s CFDAs at the Lincoln Centre in New York were no exception. The fashion elite once again got suited and booted for the occasion, and as usual we were overwhelmed with the amount of exquisitely dressed celebs in attendance. Miranda Kerr championed the Womenswear Designer of the Year winner Proenza Schouler by stepping out in one of the label’s gorgeous creations, Kerry Washington brought some much needed colour to the proceedings by arriving in a striking yellow Jason Wu dress, and Nicole Richie brought the shine in a metallic Marc Jacobs dress. Sofia Vergara never lets us down on a red carpet, and we don’t think she’s going to start any time soon. She wore a floor-length emerald green gown with her finest assets proudly on display – the stunning Lorraine Schwartz statement necklace certainly brought even more attention to them! Take a look at some of our best-dressed ladies from last night’s CFDA Awards and let us know who gets your vote! Miranda Kerr in Proenza Schouler Kerry Washington in Jason Wu Hailee Steinfeld in Suno Rooney Mara in Calvin Klein Jessica Chastain in Givenchy Nicole Richie in Marc Jacobs Olivia Palermo in Dennis Basso Sofia Vergara in Herve L. Celebrities Rocking the Wedge Sneaker Trend

[noskim] Forget Manolos and Louboutins, this season there’s only one way celebs are looking to get their high heel fix: with wedge sneakers. Hollywood A-listers aren’t just wearing their favourite pair of kicks to the gym these days; lately they’ve been spotted incorporating sneakers into their wardrobes in ultra fashionable ways. The wedge trainer trend has kicked off in a big way this autumn, creating a new look craze that combines the high-top sneaker with a chunky hidden wedge heel, to give stars extra lift as well as sporty street cred. Isabel Marant started the new fad when her new take on the old basketball favourite took to the runways as part of her S/S collection. Giving a traditionally masculine shoe an uber-trendy feminine edge, they’re currently taking the high fashion world by storm. Fashionistas have been using them to glam up their casual daywear, as a comfortable alternative to a sexy heel. The look has already taken to the high street too, with Nike launching their own swooshed-up version at JD Sports. So which celebs are stepping out in the new trend? Here are some of the latest stars spotted in the new look wedges. From keeping it on the down low to dressing them up for a night out on the town, they’re all rocking them in different ways, giving us some style inspiration, and proving that this shoe doesn’t just look cool, it’s versatile to boot. Miranda Kerr was one of the first A-listers to slip into wedge sneakers, seen strolling around JFK airport in a pair of red Isabel Marants. Teaming them with a pair of black skinny jeans and a button-down blouse, she kept it casual while travelling with her son. It seems celebrity mums are all big fans of the comfy new heels. Lusting after: Pippa Middleton’s Jimmy Choo Zeta clutch

Upstaging the bride in the style stakes is the cardinal bridesmaid sin. And when that bride is the future Queen of England, you’ve got another thing coming. Instead of merging into the haze of stellar guests at Westminster Abbey on 29 April, the hottest chief bridesmaid on the planet and sister of Kate Middleton, Pippa, turned up the fashion heat a notch or 10. Wowing us with a stunning cowl neck McQueen creation for the main ceremony and accruing some well-deserved derrière appreciation in the process, Pippa slipped into a demurely sexy emerald green Temperley gown for the evening reception at Buckingham Palace. But we simply can’t take our eyes of her sparkling clutch. Pippa accessorised with an eye-catching champagne-hued Jimmy Choo Zeta sparkle clutch, which we think adds extra oomph to her decorously elegant look, and the glitter effect is offset perfectly against the jewel-toned gown. Doubtlessly, Jimmy Choo is the go-to brand for seriously stylish party pieces, and having accessorised several guests at the Royal wedding, Tamara Mellon has got a lot to smile about. Pippa’s subtle-hued version is just as gorgeous as the delicious gold and bronze glitter version we’re lusting after. You can get yours for £265 at JimmyChoo.com here.

Update: what everyone else will be wearing at the royal wedding

So the Beckhams have flown in to town for the Royal wedding, which means if you’re not excited already, it’s time to get suitably stoked. And if there’s one thing we’re more almost as excited about as what Kate will wear, it’s what the guests will pull out – especially as Victoria‘s been stressing over dressing her bump. So if you missed what everyone else will be wearing to the royal wedding, here’s an update: Victoria Beckham – she’s not spilled the beans, but it’s more than likely she’ll wear one of her own designs with a hat courtesy of millinery friend Philip Treacy.   Anya Hindmarch – the designer’s chosen a chic and classic look from Emilia Wickstead.   Tamara Mellon – her dress is unknown, but she’ll be wearing Jimmy Choo shoes, naturally.   Camilla Duchess of Cornwall – Camilla will be wearing a dress by Anna Valentine, the designer who created her wedding dress in 2005 when she married Prince Charles.   Sara Parker-Bowles -SPB will be wearing a look from London-based designer Osman.   Viscountess Serena Linley – lucky girl, she’ll be wearing Roland Mouret with Manolo Blahnik shoes, an Anya Hindmarch clutch and a hat by Stephen Jones.   Lady Helen Taylor – she’s chosen a dress from fashion favourite Erdem   Chelsea Davy – Prince Harry’s ex (yes!) will be wearing Italian label Alberta Ferretti.

London Fashion Week SS11: House of Holland screening

Saturday not only saw House of Holland’s Spring/Summer 2011 show, but also the launch of the new Blackberry Torch 9800- as promoted by Henry himself in an exclusive post-catwalk screening. My Fashion Life, amongst other bloggers, were treated to a breezy Holland swanning into the upstairs room of his namesake pub (where he had his 21st birthday, apparently) an hour late, having gone for a stiff drink after the well-received show closed. Still, to be kept waiting by Henry isn’t too disheartening- as he’s soon delighting us all with his charm and fashion quips(apparently Aggy left his show stuffing a standout leaf motif jumpsuit into her bag). He quickly played us all a video of the show, and it’s clear Henry and his House of Holland girls are all growing up- there’s new silhouettes in the form of flared trousers and razor sharp pleated skirts, and long line column dresses a la Aggy’s new favourite look. Henry told us how the House of Holland consumer is more “cocktail party than squat party” these days, and that the Miami beach style collection, complete with marabou doughnut earrings and banana leaf prints, perfectly fits this glamourous transition. Of course she’s still as fun as ever- clips of Jaime Winstone bopping to the tunes on the front row gave a great context to Holland’s fringe overlays and curtain tassel accents strutting down the runway. We loved the metallic pleat skater peices, and batwing denim shirts- very accessible stuff from Mr Holland this year it seems. Greens, aquamarine, gold and purple all hinted at a disco vibe, and overall we were chuffed to get a sneak peak at the man (and team)’s work. “Me too, this is the first time I’ve seen it, “ he looks a tad bashful and nervous in his seat […]

Summer 09 Trend: Florals

With the onset of summer it’s no surprise that seasonal florals rear their head once again. However, this season you can forget looking sickeningly saccharine as we see a new take on the look. Spring has sprung with a new posy of floral prints in eye-popping colours that bloom bigger, brighter and bolder. From traditional prints to more abstract designs, vibrant and brash florals feature in the collections of Alexander McQueen, Luella, and See by Chloe. With even Kate Moss adding more fashion clout to her current Topshop collection by teaming with Liberty’s print designers , they of the iconic florals , we can be sure to see the floral trend in full bloom this summer.

All eyes are on Victoria at post Oscar bash

At Elton John’s post Oscar party, you expect a whole host of stars. You expect all those who don’t get an invite to the awards to pull out all the stops for the parties. But there was only one person, we all wanted to look at: Victoria Beckham. She looked sensational. Who would have ever thought a long sleeved, high necked, floor length gown could ever look so sexy? It is one of her own creations, from her Victoria Beckham line and it really is stunning. There were other contenders for the style crown at the party, but none could beat Victoria. But let’s have a look at them anyway. So near There were some fabulous dresses on show, and one great trouser suit. I’m not normally a fan of suits at black tie events, but Eva Longoria managed that perfect blend between masculine and sexy. Those puffed up shoulders look fab and her toned down make up and hair suit her perfectly. Kate Beckinsale looked great in a beautiful one shouldered black dress. The diamonds also added a little sparkle turning her into a true Hollywood siren. Jennifer Love Hewitt managed to find the perfect fitting dress, and whilst it might not be the most showstopping of gowns, it suits her figure and shape beautifully. Natasha Bedingfield also opted for black in a form fitting number. The fish tail oozed sex appeal, whilst that low back showed off her great physique. There wasn’t a huge amount of colour on show. So a big round of applause goes to Tamara Mellon for her fabulous red dress. Almost modern Dynasty, she looks so on trend it hurts. And Elle Macpherson reminded us once more why she is ‘The Body’. She was also the most suitably dressed for a party sponsored by […]
