Kate Winslet talks Leonardo DiCaprio, motherhood, and turning 40 in Marie Claire UK November

Another November fashion glossy cover to look at this morning – this time courtesy of Marie Claire UK. Kate Winslet and her flawless face are covering Marie Claire UK’s November issue, making us seriously question the fact that she is turning 40 next year. That’s right – 40! Is it just us, or has Kate Winslet barely aged since the Titanic days? And speaking of Titanic, Kate opens up about her dishy co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, who she says still remains a close personal friend after all those years. Aww! “I think the reason that friendship works is because there was never any romantic thing,” Kate began. “It’s so disappointing for people to hear that, because in the soap opera of the Kate and Leo story we fell in love at first sight and had a million snogs, but actually we never did. “He always saw me as one of the boys; I’ve never really been a girly-girl. We needed each other to lean on because we were very young and working all kinds of crazy bloody hours and it was a shock to the system.” We hear you, Kate! You can read the rest of Kate’s interview (she talks about more than Leo, promise!) in the Marie Claire UK November issue – out today!

Kate Winslet (apparently?) covers Vogue US November issue

Apparently this is Kate Winslet on the front cover of Vogue US’s November issue. We say apparently because she has been Photoshopped within an inch of her life so we’re not entirely convinced that it’s the same person who starred in Contagion, Titanic, and our fave film to watch at Christmas – The Holiday. Bit of a shame as Kate Winslet possesses that elegant, natural beauty that women everywhere admire so much… and here she’s just another blonde haired, blue eyed woman. Still, we’re hoping “What Kate Did Next” editorial, shot by Mario Testino and styled by Tonne Goodman, will be less airbrushed and display more of Kate’s natural beauty, as well as some great high fashion that we’re certain she will be able to rock. You can see Kate’s editorial pictures and read the article on the American Vogue website from tomorrow so make a note in your diaries. Did you recognise Kate Winslet on the Vogue US November cover? Do you agree that the guys in post-production were a little too airbrush happy?

Kate Winslet talks The Queen, Sarah Burton, and her new life in Harper’s Bazaar UK April

Like a fine wine, Kate Winslet seems to get better with age – and her Harper’s Bazaar UK front cover is solid proof of that! Alexi Lubomirski had the pleasure of photographing the new Mrs Ned Rocknroll (Richard Brandon’s nephew, fyi) in an array of stunning outfits courtesy of Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Roland Mouret, each picture just as stunning as the last. As well as taking our breath away in her gorgeous editorial, the actress also opened up to the mag about how the mistakes she made in the past have shaped her new life, as well as what it was like meeting The Queen when she was awarded her CBE. “Oh my God, she looks amazing,” she gushed.  “Beautiful skin – and wonderful thick hair. She looked really well and pretty and fresh, and she was wearing a lovely pale-yellow dress.” And let’s not forget the dress that Kate herself wore on that momentous day – designed by none other than Sarah Burton…. “I do think Sarah Burton is a genius,” she said. “And it’s remarkable what she’s done, moving into a role like that, and really keeping it McQueen – that’s hard. I mean, that’s like taking over playing Hamlet and playing it exactly the same. It’s just incredible. She’s given it a touch of herself without taking anything away from it.” That’s a pretty spot on description if you ask us! You can catch more of Kate Winslet’s wise words in the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK, out tomorrow!

Best Dressed of the Week: Kate Winslet at the Titanic 3D World Premiere

We couldn’t stop gushing over Kate Winslet at the Titanic 3D premiere earlier this week, and you guessed it, she’s made it as our BDOTW! Almost fifteen years on since the release of the original James Cameron mega-hit, Titanic, the theatrical re-release in 3D is set for April 4. And just like the film, unchanged and forever beautiful (come on, we all had a little cry!), Kate Winslet came back all the same in the fashion stakes. Kate’s bespoke Jenny Packham black silk-crepe gown with Swarovski crystal cap sleeves and a waist detail for the Titanic 3D world premiere at the Royal Albert Hall, left us speechless! The old fashioned glamour gown was inspired by the esteemed British designer’s Fall 2012 Film Noir collection, and couldn’t be more suited to such a classic re-release event. A sleek, red-carpet perfect wavy up do, crystal jewels, smouldering eyes, a statement pout and black cutch offset the gown perfectly, and although it’s only another black gown from Kate, it works! For one of the biggest grossing films in silver screen history, we wouldn’t expect anything less than a show-stopping Jenny Packham number, and Kate most certainly pulled out all the stops.

Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry wears £50 version of Kate Winslet’s Stella McCartney dress!

Our mouths literally dropped to the floor when Kate Winslet stepped out in Paris for the Carnage premiere in the figure-hugging, waist-cinching red and black Octavia dress from Stella McCartney’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection.Kate knew she was onto a winner as she wore the monochrome version of the dress in Venice for the Mildred Pierce premiere a few months ago, and received endless compliments about how stunning her curves looked in it.

Kate Winslet looks hot in Stella McCartney

We love a good optical illusion as much as the next magician, especially when there’s a dress involved. So, to cast our eyes on a super-curvaceous Kate Winslet in this Stella McCartney dress was a fashion treat and a half. The actress attended the Venice Film Festival last week working this sculpting-shaping-miracle-making dress with peep-toe black court shoes. Forget magic pants and uncomfortable body sculpting underwear to create curves in the right places – Stella McCartney’s clever colour panelling on this pencil dress deceptively knocks inches off Kate’s waist (and shifts her chest up a notch), taking body-con to a whole other level. By keeping her hair simple with a chic chignon and minimal jewellery, the actress lets that dress work its magic in front of the cameras. So, what do you think? Is the optical illusion genius, or is Kate just delusional? [poll id=”193″]

Kate Winslet goes for the chop

For many of us, spring has always signaled the end of an era and a time for new beginnings. But for British actress Kate Winslet, the start of a fresh new season meant giving her golden ringlets the dreaded crop. Though only few can pull off such a drastic look, (yes you’re one of them Emma Watson) the 35 year-old surprisingly suits her new found platinum blonde pixie-do, whilst posing on the cover of Vogue UK’s April issue. Sporting monochrome clothes to counteract with her striking new look, the Hollywood star is truly captured at her best by legendary fashion photographer, Mario Testino, reports Vogue UK. After following the recent split from her husband Sam Mendes, it looks as if Kate is ready to put the past behind her and finally move forward. But it hasn’t been an easy process, as Kate explains to Jo Ellison from Solo Act. “Experiencing those moments of being alone… is a very, very weird flooring and exposing position to be in when you’re just not used to it. And it’s not just being in a relationship. It’s also the fact that I grew up in a family full of people.”

Kate Winslet loves long locks

Kate Winslet hated having short hair. The 33-year-old actress sported a chin-length, textured bob at the New York premiere of her movie ‘Hideous Kinky’ in 1999, and insists she will never repeat the look. Looking at a photo taken on the night, Kate said: ‘Bless my heart. Well, my boobs look good. Yeah, that was my short haircut – I hated it. I would never do it again. You have to do short hair. It’s like a nightmare. It’s just not flattering to my face shape – at all.’ Kate – who raises two children with husband Sam Mendes, daughter Mia, eight, and five-year-old son Joe – is happier with the fresh-faced look she boasted at the New York premiere of 2008’s ‘The Reader’, where she had flowing blonde locks and a deep tan. Kate told Allure magazine: ‘That was a damn fine look. I had just gotten back from vacation in the Turks and Caicos islands, and I was all nice and tan, and my hair had gone blonder. I don’t lie out in the sun, and I always wear a high sun factor, so it was from literally just wandering around in the sun for a week, chasing after the kids and making sure nobody drowned in the sea.’ Kate added the most important thing for her is that she is comfortable in what she chooses to wear, and is dressed appropriately for her age.

The Oscars 2009: Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet showed up to the Oscars in a steel grey Atelier Yves Saint Laurent by Stefano Pilati asymmetric evening gown with embroidered black silk tulle and a black satin evening pochette. She glistened in a multi-cut diamond bracelet, diamond pear shaped cluster earrings and a diamond ring all courtesy of Chopard. The verdict? Well, this one is going to be like Marmite, some are really going to love it and others will completely hate it. I love it. Kate always pulls off classic Hollywood glamour so beautifully. On another note, she’s been receiving lots of compliments on her eyebrows!

Naughty Grazia admit to digitally slimming painfully slender Kate Middleton

Another week, another boot in a glossy magazine’s metaphorical behind. This time, weekly glossy, Grazia, were reminded of the harrowing effects of promoting digitally altered images. The Press Complaints Association confirmed the magazine admitted to altering an image of Kate Middleton for their 9 May royal edition which made her appear slimmer, but the Bauer Media-owned magazine provided a host of reasons for their ill-received technical work. Claiming that in order to place Kate on the cover, they had to crop out her husband (poor Wills, sidelined yet again), as there were no lone images of Kate from the big day –ultimately contributing to the waist slimming. A touch of tech-wizardry and a few crops and click later, Kate’s waist in the image appears unnaturally shrunken. For a woman so admired, but not immune to digs about her ‘straight’ physique and dismal efforts to accentuate her nonexistent waist in tightly clung Issa creations, Grazia’s digital blunder must have been a beating to the soul. But Kate isn’t alone. Another Kate received the ‘slim fast’ treatment back in 2003 when, curve celebrating Kate Winslet had her legs digitally lengthened and slimmed for a GQ shoot. More recently, L’Oréal were slammed for their use of highly airbrushed images featuring actress Julia Roberts and model Christy Turlington to promote foundation creams, resulting in the adverts being banned. Although the cover is over three months old, it’s pretty obvious Kate Middleton hasn’t totally heeded to Grazia’s retouching gaffe and suddenly started sporting a corseted, Dita Von Tees-esque waistline. I do hope she doesn’t bow to any negative pressure if an episode such as this is repeated again in the future. Although glowing, her face appeared slimmer on the wedding day which hinted towards a disciplined, pre-wedding diet, but the real panic will set when […]

Best Dressed At The Oscars 2016

The Oscar’s red carpet left us feeling rather underwhelmed. Perhaps our expectations were too high? The majority of our favourite starlets pretty much pulled a Jennifer Aniston and Kate Winslet; minimal looks with next to none accessories. Only a few including Naomi Watts, Saoirse Ronan and Sofia Vergara really went ALL out glam. Cate Blanchett (whom we couldn’t wait to see!) nailed it and while Jennifer Garner opted for black *yawn* she was the epitome of classy chic. Other highlights of the night? Well, there’s no way we can’t not mention Leo’s well deserved win (finally!), Chris Rocks often controversial but much needed opening monologue….and Lady Gaga’s powerful performance with survivors of campus rape. All in all, while it wasn’t the best Oscars to date (we have a feeling next year will be so much better), it wasn’t too bad either. Here’s our top 10 best dressed! Cate Blanchett wearing Armani Prive Charlize Theron wearing Dior Couture Jennifer Garner wearing Atelier Versace Jennifer Lawrence wearing Dior couture  Margot Robbie wearing Tom Ford Naomi Watts wearing Armani Prive Priyanka Chopra wearing Zuhair Murad Saoirse Ronan wearing Calvin Klein Sofia Vergara wearing Marchesa Alicia Vikander wearing Louis Vuitton [Images]

Abbey Clancy dons Agent Provocateur uniform for Breast Cancer Awareness

Abbey Clancy knows a thing or two about lingerie. We’ve lost count of the times she’s posed in her underwear and bikini, not to mention designed her very own collections for Ultimo. Therefore it comes as no surprise to learn that she is working with lingerie giant Agent Provocateur this month, to help it promote Breast Cancer Awareness. She followed in the footsteps of Kylie, Paloma Faith and even Kate Winslet by donning a pink uniform and getting behind the till of its Broadwick Street store in London’s Soho to raise money and awareness for the disease… and she definitely looked right at home! “Working with Abbey Clancy was a natural choice for us as is she embodies everything it is to be an ‘ Agent’; sensuality, exceptional style and most importantly a great sense of humour,” said Sarah Shotton, Agent Provocateur’s creative director. “I hope the event will generate continued awareness for Breast Cancer Care and maintain an ongoing relationship with the charity.” We think you did a great job Abbey – and your presence behind the till no doubt helped raise a lot of money! Are We Missing The “Get Fit For Good” Point?

After spending the entirety of summer in the gym making sure that “bikini body” doesn’t slip, we enter a period of extreme hibernation (in the fridge) during winter. Colder climes, darker evenings and post-Christmas blues can fast become toxic for those seeking to keep the bulge at bay. But, instead of finding the answers to our wellbeing in a bowl of kale salad, isn’t it time we saw the bigger picture –  the one that suggests getting fit isn’t a quick fix, but a way of life; not a sneaky, thrice weekly gym session, but a constantly evolving process of strength-building? An article recently published by The Daily Beast once again reaffirmed the notion that appearing thin rather than actually being fit and strong seems to have a permanent hold over us. Breaking down the horrific details of the “corset diet” – a lazy (and dangerous) means to getting a minuscule waist by spending all day in a tightly pulled corset – would have some quivering with Victorian-era fear. But, with  A-listers like Jessica Alba backing a nonsense gig like this, (she spent three months in a corset after giving birth) it is hardly surprising the trend has gained traction. Sites such as TheCorsetDiet.com promote this seemingly unhealthy weight loss method, claming that it has been “approved by doctors and dieticians,” yet medical evidence suggests otherwise. But corsets aren’t our only worry. Juice cleanses, complex detox programs and slimming pills are also to blame. These methods almost liken weight loss to rehab. If we want to look and feel our best, how is it possible to do so if our attention is wholly focused on obtaining a prescribed idea of appearance? Defeats the purpose, non? The rich and famous follow specific dietary and workout plans to achieve bodies suited to […]

Selena Gomez is effortlessly cool on Harper’s Bazaar US April in Dolce and Gabbana

Harper’s Bazaar is on fire this month! Not only did the UK version of the mag pull out all the stops with its Kate Winslet April cover, but the US version is also pretty breathtaking too. Selena Gomez has been chosen as the Harper’s Bazaar US April cover star, and was shot by Terry Richardson in a seriously cool, on-trend Dolce and Gabbana dress and the an essential bold scarlet lip. We know that Selena has the face and figure to look positively scorching, but we love how relaxed, youthful, age-appropriate and naturally gorgeous she is on the front cover. Things get a little steamier in the editorial, but we admire the mag for not sticking to the “sex sells” idea every time. You don’t really need to when your cover star is Selena Gomez, though! Well played, HB! Selena has typical girl banter with the magazine, opening up about dating, love, and of course, style! “I do not give a damn what I look like,” she said. “I wish I could pay attention because Gwen Stefani, say, looks flawless. Of course, when I’m on red carpets, I’m nervous, sweaty, and weird.” If that’s the case then she hides her nerves pretty well, don’t you think? Click here to read more of Selena’s interview and check out more gorgeous pictures!

Five Coast dresses for any occasion!

[noskim] While searching for last minute London Fashion Week outfits, I got a bit distracted and somehow stumbled upon the party dress section of the House of Fraser website. As we all know, Coast is one of the first ports of call when it comes to finding a dress for a fab occasion (whether it’s a summer or winter wedding, glam party, you name it, Coast has it covered!) and I found myself somewhat overwhelmed with choice. The selection of dresses available at Coast right now is rather insane – we are approaching party season after all! – but I’ve managed to narrow them down and select a few current favourites. What do you think of my choices? Are you tempted by any of them? Check out the full selection of these Coast dresses currently available to buy right here. There’s something very Stella McCartney about this dress. You know the design I mean – the one that every single celeb from Kate Winslet to Kim Kardashian has been wearing. Black is obviously the sartorially safe colour, but the plunging neckline and polkadot detailing jazzes it up and makes it just that little bit daring! Perfect for wearing on a posh evening out with the other half! I’d wear it with: some dainty sandals for an elegant look, or some bright platform heels to be loud, bold and glam! Charlette knit dress, £95  Purple is definitely one of the hottest colours of the new season, and the best thing about this dress is that it features several shades of it, so you really are spoilt for choice! Really tempted to snap this up and wear to my birthday shenanigans later this week… I’d definitely stand out from the crowd! I’d wear it with: the beauty of this dress is that it […]

Turns out Kim Kardashian wasn’t wearing Spanx with her Stella McCartney dress after all…

On Wednesday, we (along with quite a few other blogs and online publications) commented on Kim Kardashian’s rather strange outfit choice… The reality TV star (and usually impeccable dresser) was sporting a Stella McCartney polka dot panel dress with what we assumed was a pair of Spanx – or something similar in the shapewear department – very visibly underneath. We came to this conclusion because a) we know Kim is a fan of the shape-flattering garments and b) have seen it on Kate Winslet sans the suspicious beige insert inside… Kim took to her blog to clarify a few things, and it turns out the asymmetrical polka dot dress actually came with the beige bit sewn inside. No word of a lie! We didn’t believe her at first so we did some Google-ing and found out that she was indeed telling the truth, as we found picture evidence of the likes of Doutzen Kroes, Anastasia and Kim’s very own mother Kris Jenner sporting different variations of the dress with the flesh insert firmly inside. Well what do you know! We still stick by what we said about not totally digging Kim’s look though. Maybe it’s the stark skin tone contrast or the fact that we’ve seen Kate Winslet rock it better or possibly even the totally inappropriate boots… or a mix of all three? We know Kim will bounce back from this sartorial slip up (no pun intended) – heck, she already has! Onwards and upwards Kim, we still love you! *Hugs*

Do Kim Kardashian’s very visible Spanx ruin her Stella McCartney dress?

Oh Kim Kardashian – your rapper-turned-fashion designer boyfriend Kanye West has done wonders for your recent wardrobe, so we cant help but think that this particular sartorial choice had nothing to do with him. Or were all mirrors and lights in your house/changing room temporarily inactive? We rarely see Kim Kardashian looking less than perfect which is why we were a bit shocked to see her out in the cold, harsh light of day sporting some very in your face Spanx. This is a VPL of epic proportions – and then some! What gets us down the most about this look however, is the fact that Kim is wearing a Stella McCartney creation that we know has done wonders for several other curvy female celebs. Remember how hot Kate Winslet looked in it? Surely Kim should know better, so we are disapprovingly wagging our finger at her and her stylists for letting this disaster happen.  And while we’re moaning… we’re not fans of her choice of footwear either! Please don’t do it again Kim – you are one of our style goddesses for a reason, so let’s put this down as a temporary blip.

Oscars 2010: the dresses

Last night’s 82nd Academy Awards were full of memorable moments. Not only did The Hurt Locker pip the box-office smash Avatar to the post on more than one occasion, but Neil Patrick Harris (a.k.a. Doogie Howser) opened the event with a camp and surreal musical display of sequins and feathers and Ben Stiller dressed up as a Na’vi. Yep, he had the tail and everything. But before the ceremony began, we took a look at the red carpet to have a nosey at the stars to see what they were saying about their films… and more importantly, who dressed them. Here’s a few of the lovely ladies and the gowns they chose for 2010’s Oscars. Elizabeth Banks – Versace One of the best dressed of the night was Elizabeth banks who had previously hosted Oscar’s Scientific and Technical Awards the night before. Dressed in a risky grey Versace gown, Banks opted for a thin hairband with her up ‘do and peach-coloured eye shadow. Sandra Bullock – Marchesa Best Actress winner, Sandra Bullock looked every inch the Hollywood star in this glamourous number from Marchesa. It’s a bit too metallic for our liking but the hair and makeup round off the classic look perfectly. Carey Mulligan – Prada Brit newcomer Carey Mulligan has had some great red carpet moments recently and this one might just be her best yet. The black number from Prada features a flattering sweetheart neckline with a box pleat skirt that could have so easily ended in disaster. We couldn’t see closely enough but apparently, the dress is embellished with Swarovski flowers and knife, fork and scissor charms! Amanda Seyfried – Armani Prive We can’t help but think this Armani Prive drowned Amanda Seyfried. It also probably didn’t help that J Lo was wearing a fairly similar […]

Anne Hathaway loves Chanel

Anne Hathaway has an “irrational” love for Chanel. The ‘Bride Wars’ star admits she would buy a dress made by the French fashion house even if she didn’t like if it. The 26-year-old actress said: “I will always love Chanel and I am completely irrational when it comes to their clothes. I will see a dress and not like it but when I hear it’s Chanel, I suddenly have to have it.” When it comes to everyday fashion, Anne has a much more relaxed role model , Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet.

The BAFTAs 2009: Back to Black!

So we are now in full movie red carpet full swing. In the run up to the Oscars, the BAFTAs are the place to shine. And did they do it? Did the stars remind us why they are the people we want to be? In a word.. No. It wasn’t an evening of epic disasters, there was nothing so horrific it made me want to cry, well maybe there was one. But there was certainly nothing to capture the imagination. So much black, you wouldn’t have been blamed for thinking that they were all off to a very glamorous funeral. The Hit list Kate Winslet , love or hate her, her stylist certainly knows her stuff. Kate’s Zac Posen number may not have been a fabulous colour but the dress flatters and accentuates those curves. I am particularly loving the vampish neckline. Freida Pinto – Wearing a girly Oscar De La Renta gown, the Slumdog Millionaire star was the shining light in all that black. It fit perfectly, and the pink ruffles were wonderfully feminine. The statement necklace adds true glamour. Amy Adams , Flying the flag for sexy redheads everywhere, Amy Adams is continuing her status as a screen siren. The royal blue gown from RM by Roland Mouret, hugged her shape creating a perfect silhouette. I’m loving the cleverly draped pearls, although the earrings are a little unnecessary. Sharon Stone , In striking red Sharon Stone knows how to work the red carpet. The hair is a little finger in a plug socket, but we’ll forgive her because she really is working her John Galliano dress. Emma Watson – This is not a wow dress, but it is not worthy of a non-entity either. There is something really quite striking about this Temperley number. The embroidered neckline is […]

Oscar Winning Style….

Every bit the glamorous star Kate Winslet who was nominated for best actress, turned to Valentino for her winning gown for the evening. I especially love the floaty shape of this dress, the one shouldered detail projects an air of elegance typical of the British beauty, the pale green shade complimented her skin tone perfectly and the subtle accessorising really finished off the polished look. This is one lady who deserved her spot on the red carpet. [Image:FilmGecko]

Ben de Lisi: Illuminating The Catwalk

After spending the morning at Pure London trying to find as many new brands as possible to share with you guys I literally had to run to the Ben de Lisi show for London Fashion Week and was totally worn out by the time I arrived. I do not recommend lugging 5 bags around on the London underground, and for once I was grateful that punctuality is not fashion weeks strongest point as I had a chance to fully compose myself. When the show opened with a model striding down in a fuchsia strapless voluminous dress with a high waisted velvet belt, I knew I was in for a treat! De Lisi showed a luxurious collection of evening wear. Emphasis was on decadence, colours were illuminous and the gowns were show stopping. Attention was drawn to the neck which was either ruched or detailed with sequins. High necked dresses were often sleeveless and the collection wasn’t short of plunging necklines. Backs were on show in low cut and strapless dresses often decorated with flowered decolletage or swirled beading. Dresses were either mid or floor length. The shorter teamed with tights and the most gorgeous black boots with a thick bronze buckle (I tried to take a few pictures but those damn models just wouldn’t stay still! I managed to get a clear enough image though…see below) whilst the longer gowns were paired with rustic gold platforms. I favoured some of the simpler styles, such as the belted cardigans and the dress below, the sequinned gold top half worked perfectly with the velvet bottom. However I wasn’t fond of the gold and fuchsia pink leafed prints which found their way to a couple of the longer dresses and a pair of trousers, which I have to add, was modelled by the […]

British fashion reigns at the Met Ball

For an event that usually champions the best of American fashion, last night’s Met Ball saw a surprising amount of stars wearing gowns from British designers. Perhaps it was a nod towards last night’s honouree, the late Alexander McQueen, who’s life and work was celebrated in an accompanying exhibition, Savage Beauty, or maybe the world hasn’t quite recovered from royal wedding fever just yet – but either way, the Brits ruled the red carpet. Dressing the most celebs was Stella McCartney – also clad in her own label – who decked out an impressive 14 stars in her dresses (save a jumpsuit for Iman), including Rihanna, Naomi Watts, Eva Mendes, Maggie Gyllenhaal and BFFs Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Thandie Newton and Madonna. Also high up on the most-spotted list was, unsurprisingly, Alexander McQueen. Sarah Burton wore a white dress by her own design to honour her friend and mentor, while Daphne Guinness, Naomi Campbell, Gisele, Coco Rocha, Anna Dello Russo, Karen Elson, Racquel Zimmerman and Salma Hayek and Sarah Jessica Parker all paid tribute to the designer. And the list of Brits doesn’t stop there – Erdem dressed Lily Donaldson in a floor-length navy lace gown, Burberry bagged Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to wear a satin rose gown and nude python clutch, and Alexa Chung wore new-season Christopher Kane. Stay tuned for our round-up of the best and worst dressed from last night’s Met Ball.

Love or Hate: Golden Goose polka dot blouse

Where polka dots came from this season, I don’t know, but they seem to be popping up everywhere. Alexa Chung was seen wearing the print in various forms throughout London Fashion Week and, more recently, the lovely Emma Watson was spotted teaming polka-dot tights with a studded trench coat. I’ve always had a soft spot for polka dots. At primary school I had a polka dot headband which my mum had to prize off my head every evening, but now, my favourite way to wear them is on a girly silk blouse. Enter Golden Goose’s slinky little shirt. The white blouse is laden with small red polka dots and has pretty pearlescent buttons down the front. The frilly-detail cuffs on the sleeves make a cute addition to the garment, but my favourite thing about it is the collar. Yes, the humble collar is having a bit of a fashion moment right now, making this blouse bang on trend as well as totally sweet. Wear it Mad Men style tucked into a sleek pencil skirt and heels, or à la Alexa with jeans and a leather jacket. Either way, it’s sure to inject a bit of fun into your wardrobe this spring. Golden Goose silk-cotton polka dot blouse, £225, available at Browns. BUY NOW!

Gwen Stefani donates her Galliano wedding dress to the V&A museum

Many magazine issues across the board are bound to feature, in one way or another, the genius work of John Galliano in the coming months. But as Elle embraces Gwen Stefani as its cover girl for April, it may have just pipped the others to the post. In an exclusive interview with the British magazine, pop singer-turned-fashion-designer Gwen Stefani talks candidly to old friend and Garbage front-girl Shirley Manson about her world and all things fashion – and, more importantly, handing over her Galliano wedding dress to the V&A museum. A snippet from the interview below: SM: “What have you worn over the years that you’ve thought, ‘F***, I looked good!’ GS: My wedding dress. SM: That wedding dress was insane! [John Galliano] is one of the greatest living designers. GS: Oh, for sure. When I got engaged and someone told me that John said he would make my dress, I was like really? I said I wanted it to be over the top, but not traditional – I wanted it to be everything. But how do you tell this genius over the phone? He was, like, OK, and sent me these drawings of this unbelievable, perfect dress. It’s going into the V&A now. I didn’t wanna send it because I was scared it would get ruined. But it’s a work of art, it needed to be seen.” It seems one way or another John Galliano’s design legend is destined to live on, alongside his notorious work. Catch the full interview in the April issue of ELLE magazine, on sale today (Wednesday 9th March).

Golden Globes 2009: Fashion Round-up (Part 1)

How nice has it been to be able to just shamelessly indulge in red carpet fashion from the Golden Globes? Maybe it’s because we didn’t get the opportunity last year but I’ve loved every minute of it. Expect a more subdued ceremony this year we were told. Well, if “subdued equals classy, sophisticated and demure then I hope the Oscars are seriously sombre. O.K, now let’s talk trends. Strapless gowns were popular this year along with the usual one shouldered options which tend to be a red carpet favourite. The odd bright jewel tones courtesy of Cameron Diaz and Eva Longoria was much needed amongst a sea of nude and neutral shades and classic dark hues while Hollywood glamour at its finest came in the form of fishtail hemlines and bold statement necklaces!
