Lily Collins stuns on Marie Claire UK’s October issue

The gorgeous rising star that is Lily Collins has landed the Marie Claire UK October cover – and we have to say that we love the natural-looking shot so expertly captured by David Roemer. The photographer shoots the 25-year-old actress in some utterly stunning pieces from Emilia Wickstead, Christopher Kane, Giles, Valentino, and more. Although Collins is a popular surname, you’d be right if you think she had some sort of relation to Phil Collins, as she is in fact his daughter. Don’t for a moment think that he is the only reason she is successful though… “When I first met with agents I was asked, “Well, what makes you so special? Everybody in LA is a cousin or a daughter of someone’,” she said. “At the beginning, that was the most interesting thing about me. Now I’ve done eight films, it’s an afterthought. I get kids who say, ‘Oh, I love your movie, but my mum loves your dad.’ It’s really nice to be able to share that with him, but it doesn’t define who I am career-wise.” We’ll say! You can read the rest of the interview – where she also talks about the pressures surrounding Kristen Stewart and other actresses her age – in the Marie Claire UK October issue – out now!

Lily Collins is the new face of Lancôme!

Move over Emma Watson, there’s a new face of Lancôme in town, and her name is Lily Collins! No disrespect to Emma Watson, as she has done a marvellous job posing for Lancôme these past few years, but we realise that there comes a time for brands to bring in new faces… and we couldn’t be happier with aforementioned new face Lily Collins. Lily Collins has really grown up in the spotlight, and has been nothing but stylish and elegant on the red carpet – her Mirror Mirror promo looks last year were particularly stunning –  so it was only a matter of time until she landed a major ad campaign. With her beautiful brows, blemish-free flawless skin and enviable cheekbones, we couldn’t think of a better face for the new ballerina-esque collection.

Anna Dello Russo vs. Lily Collins…Who wore Givenchy better?

Along with ‘It’ bags and must-have heels, cult sweatshirts and jumpers have gained serious traction in the past months. From the Kenzo eye sweater to Brian Lichtenberg’s collection of ‘Homies’ imprinted beanies and tops, logo mania has well and truly taken over. And now, this week’s fash-off contenders, Anna Dello Russo and Lily Collins, are also doing their bit for branding by sporting the same sell-out Givenchy Bambi print jumper – at the same event! Attending the spring/summer 2014 Givenchy runway show in Paris, the editor famed for taking “fashion showers” was spotted outside the show venue, aptly in said sweater. Needing no introduction to the camera, Anna Dello Russo teamed hers with a waist-cinching belt, black clutch and statement ankle boots. But, not too far away (on the opposite side of the front row, we presume), Lily Collins was also wearing the same printed sweater, albeit with a very un-ADR spin. Going for more glam goth than golden glamazon, Lily went with a sheeny vampish lip, black ankle strap sandals and matching clutch. A selection of bracelets gave the final finishing touch. So, who wins in the battle of the Bambis? Oh, we do love you ADR, but that tan and accessory overkill just isn’t working for us. Fashion shower detox, maybe? Lily, you’ve got this one hands down. Agree with our style verdict? Whose look wins for you? Tell us in the comments section below! Givenchy Bambi and female form print jumper, £853.51, available at Barneys. [Image: Anna; Lily]

Lily Collins wows in Julien Macdonald for Glamour Women of the Year Awards

Lily Collins is growing up before our very eyes, and her style is evolving with each and every flawless red carpet appearance. We weren’t surprised to see her in attendance of the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, and definitely weren’t surprised to see her own the red carpet in her head-turning ensemble. Lily decided to wear a stunning nude dress with a thigh high split, which came fresh from the Julien Macdonald spring/summer 2013 collection. Julien Macdonald loves him some flesh, feathers, and sparkle – look at Ellie Goulding’s X Factor look for an extreme example – but it was all toned down and kept in moderation for this gorgeous gown. Chic and understated – just like Miss Collins herself! Lily accessorised with nude shoes and striking red lipstick. We think she looked smouldering, and was without a doubt our best-dressed lady there.

Lily Collins is Best Dressed of the Week

Considering she’s given us five lust-worthy looks this week, we settled on the gorgeous Lily Collins as our Best Dressed of the Week. Running the gamut of red carpet looks; from chic casual to edgy preppy and directional monochrome, the wow-browed Hollywood darling looked every inch like red carpet royalty! Charging ahead with the promotional rounds for her latest movie, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones; first up, Lily slipped into a shimmering Bec & Bridge resort 2014 skirt and tee ensemble. Wavy locks, Louboutin pumps and a chunky gold chain completed her look nicely. Moving onto the ‘black carpet’, Lily rocked a striking all-white ensemble at the LA premiere for the film. Wearing a mid-riff baring Cushnie et Ochs resort 2014 dress, Lily completed her look with matching Giuseppe Zanotti pumps and on-trend garnet lips. Bringing a splash of printed fun to the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, Lily opted for a palm-print skirt, paired with a simple black tee and Brian Atwood pumps. A chic updo and cat-eye liner perfectly finished her fun-yet-cool look. Slipping into a trusty, thigh-skimming Thakoon dress for the movie’s LA press conference, we love Lily’s sleek glossy locks and sultry makeup. Jimmy Choo heels and shimmering nails rounded off this easy yet impacting look. And finally, the gorgeous lady wowed in monochrome Roland Mouret autumn/winter 2013 skirt and crop top. Simple Jimmy Choo Anouk pumps, a black clutch and a bold red lip accessorised to perfection, whilst a subtly sexy updo was the hairstyle order of the day. What are your thoughts on Lily’s looks? Was she worthy of our BDOTW title? (We think so!)

Lily Collins compares London and LA in Glamour UK September issue

Aw well if it isn’t Lily Collins posing up one almighty storm on the cover of Glamour UK’s September 2013 issue! Lily is no stranger to gracing the cover of the magazine, as she posed for the US version of the mag just a few months ago. Click here to refresh your memories and heck the shoot out in all its glory. This time around, Lily opens up about a host of different subjects, from her Hollywood crushes, to lunching with Kristen Stewart, to her The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones co-star and boyfriend Jamie Campbell, and more. We especially loved her comparisons between life in London and Los Angeles… “People always ask if I feel more American or British,” she began. “The truth is that I love the way of life, the humour and the fashion in Europe. I love the tea and the food. I feel at home when I’m back here: I feel like little Lily again. “I love the casual, comfortable chic of LA. But at the same time I get to dress up a lot more when I’m in London. There’s this funky, fresh, young vibe there and people can be very chic in either a very put-together way or a grunge way. People are who they are and I like that.” We like that too, Lil. You can read the rest of Lily’s interview and see more pics from her editorial shoot in the September issue of Glamour UK – out now!

Lily Collins rocks Dior for Glamour US July, is over-Photoshopped

Glamour US is continuing to get Photoshop-happy on its cover stars, with Lily Collins receiving the over-airbrushing treatment for the magazine’s July issue. We think it’s a bit of a shame as Lily Collins is one of Hollywood’s brightest young stars, and one thing she definitely doesn’t need is a lot of help in post-production. Still, she’s looking absolutely gorgeous in the Ellen von Unwerth lensed pic, posing in a striking Christian Dior dress and rocking bold eyes and ruby red lips. Lily’s interview is pretty interesting too, as she tells the mag about not asking her father (Phil Collins) for help, her friend Jennifer Lawrence, and her “mentor” mother. “It has nothing to do with acting,” she said about her mother. “She guides me through my personal life, telling me to experiment. She lets me borrow her vintage. She has Chanel and eighties stuff from Yohji Yamamoto and Vivienne Westwood that she got when vintage wasn’t cool. “She’d wear them to events with my dad, and everyone would ask what she had on; when she said ‘vintage,’ they’d go, ‘Oh, that’s nice,’ and, you know, turn the corner.” We would never snub vintage! Head to the Glamour website to find more pics and snippets from Lily’s interview.

Rate or Slate Alexa Chung in Marc Jacobs, Lily Collins in Valentino Couture and Jaime King in custom Topshop?

With the biggest event in the fashion calendar going down this week, it’s no surprise then that this week’s RATE or SLATE is doing just that to some rather thought provoking Met Ball 2012 dress choices. The ever-fashion forward Alexa Chung attended this year’s Met Ball as the guest of fashion god Marc Jacobs, and wore a creation from the designer’s fall 2012 collection. (natch) Usually, we take a second glance at Alexa and then continue to stare in awe at how she has concocted up her latest look, but this time we’re not totally sure how we feel… Lily Collins’ interesting choice made for some rather exciting viewing! Opting for a fashionably romantic creation, Lily wore a sheer lace Valentino couture gown and looked every inch the red carpet queen. Although the Little House on the Prairie-inspired gown may not be every one’s first choice, it kind of worked on Lily, but we’re still deciding…. Jaime King decided to do a repeat performance of Ginnifer Goodwin’s foray into high street fashion for the red carpet at last year’s Met Ball, but we’re not entirely convinced she outshone her predecessor! It over to our Style Jury… Fashion News Ed says: Alexa Chung: ‘Anyone who reads MFL will know that we love a bit of Alexa Chung… she can do no wrong in our eyes, but this is one of the very rare occasions where something has gone a little bit awry. I love the dress, but for me, the shirt ruined it… totally not appropriate for such a prestigious event!’ Lily Collins: ‘I adore Lily Collins’ Valentino Couture! This is the standard I expect to see at the Met Gala… I love how Lily mixed it up and embraced the theme of the evening, but still opted for youthful and […]

Lily Collins adds some fairytale sparkle to the Mirror Mirror red carpet in Paris

Talk about running with a theme! Lily Collins did her best to promote her new film Mirror Mirror by wrapping herself in a gorgeous Zac Posen pre-fall 2012 dress that looks like it could have easily been the backdrop of a scene in the Snow White adaptation movie. The dress hugged and accentuated every single curve… and despite only being 5’5 and there being a lot of excess material at the bottom, it didn’t actually drown Lily! Sometimes with such lavish gowns, there’s a danger of the dress wearing you as opposed to you wearing the dress, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth here. We love how Lily went for a bold red lip to bring out her raven hair and porcelain skin, which also brought out the richer tones in her forest gown. She definitely was the fairest/most beautiful of them all at the premiere – no arguments there! [poll id=”306″]

Rate or Slate? Lily Collins vs. Jennifer Lawrence vs. Coco Rocha

This week’s fash-off may, at first sight, appear purposefully colour coordinated, but we can assure you that’s not the case. It just so happened that we were drawn to these three looks, and by chance of some invisible fashion force, Coco and Lily ended up looking like dress twins! So, it’s here once again, and, yes, we did get that lurking, undecided feeling about who upped the sartorial barometer, and who we’d rather it rained on. Well, our lovely Fashion News Editor definitely seemed to be in amazing dress heaven, as she couldn’t stop ogling the starlets’ outfit choices, with added spontaneous complimentary outbursts. On Lily Collins’ Dolce & Gabbana dress she wore to the Mirror Mirror world premiere in California, Fash News Ed said: “Given the fairytale nature of the film, I think this was the perfect choice for Lily to wear to the world premiere of her movie. The length is super-cute and appropriate for the event and her age.” On Jennifer Lawrence’s Marchesa number at the Berlin premiere of The Hunger Games: “Apart from the gold dress Stacy Keibler wore to the Oscars, this is the best Marchesa dress I’ve seen on the red carpet in months. I rate this look a million times over! And, finally, on Coco Rocha’s Jean Paul Gaultier gown at the Lycee Francais of New York Annual Ball: “Although not as instantly wow-worthy as the other two, I also love Coco’s dress and the way she looked in it. I adore her dramatic eyes and bold red lips – flawless.” You fashion folk couldn’t get enough of this week’s three looks either, with more ‘likes’ than we could count in one Facebook sitting! Safe to say then, this week is a major RATE to the power of three! Long live the god of […]

Hosted by Rihanna, Donatella Versace, Amal Clooney and Anna Wintour, the theme of the evening was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” While as per usual, some starlets copped out by playing it safe in a standard gown that would have been at home at any red-carpet, to the delight of us here at MFL, others such as Rihanna (whom never lets us down), Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively, Zendaya and many more put in 150%. A Breakdown Of The Summer Hair Trends You Need To Know

Summer is the perfect time to get a fresh new hairstyle. This is first because you may have a holiday coming up and second because the summer is wedding season. Being a wedding guest calls for you to feel really happy with your hair, not just for the official wedding photographs, but also for all those photo booth shots which are all the rage right now at events up and down the country. If you are not sure what style will suit you talk to your hairdresser about the different options in terms of cut and colour. If you have fine hair, sometimes adding some highlights can increase volume and allow you to go for a style which you wouldn’t be able to try otherwise. If you are on a budget it is worth seeing if your salon offers appointments with apprentice stylists. These will be supervised by an experienced hairdresser but it means you can often get a cut or colour at a greatly reduced price. Let’s look to some celebrity cuts and the latest styles on the catwalk to see what the hot trends for the summer are. The Bob or Lob The bob or lob, for lob read longer bob, is making a big comeback at the moment. Fausto Puglisi two-tone dress: Yay or Nay?

It’s fabulous because… No one does glamour better than the Italians, (hello, Milan Fashion Week!), and this week’s designer hails from the midst of it all. Synonymous with sexy designs that scream personality, Fausto Puglisi’s creations have found red carpet fashion fans in everyone from Coco Rocha to Lily Collins and Rashida Jones. Given the affection for pastels on the spring/summer ’14 runways was pretty unmissable, we’re diggin’ this two-tone, silhouette-skimming jersey dress for more reasons than one! Cut from the softest jersey, the soft lilac and mint palette and knee-grazing length make this an ideal dress for various occasions. Why were totally saying yay: Perfect for work or play: Wear it to work paired with a well-cut jacket and pumps, and swap for a leather biker and heels for after-work fun. Easy. Great price: Sitting pretty at £282, the price isn’t the heftiest of fees to pay for slither of Italian glam, right? Easy piece for various occasions: Be it date night, a summer wedding guest option or, even a holiday look; this dress promises to be a fit for all. And, erm, maybe nay Unforgiving silhouette: The downside to slipping into a dangerously-clingy dress is its unforgiving nature! Washboard abs and a miniscule waist aren’t everyone’s forte (and shouldn’t be, either), so consider this before investing. Difficult colour to style: A two-tone option can always throw us a little, so the best styling option sees like all black. Boring. Unless you are Anna Dello Russo, of course. One-hit wonder: Given its trend-centric colour palette, you could find yourself pushing this dress to the back of the wardrobe once the summer months pass. Fausto Puglisi two-tone jersey dress, £282, available at LuisaViaRoma.

Paris Fashion Week SS14 highlights from Roland Mouret, Dior, Givenchy & more

What a packed weekend it was in Paris! Paris Fashion Week was the place to be at the weekend, with some of the hottest shows from the likes of Roland Mouret, Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Comme des Garcons and Givenchy taking place. It was all very Secret Garden at Christian Dior – ladylike, elegant, and a very literal interpretation of spring/summer. Flowers adorned the entire venue as opposed to just the garments, and the handbags were dreamier and more elaborate than ever. Lily Collins, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were just a few of the famous faces sitting pretty on the Givenchy front row, but even A-listers couldn’t distract from Riccardo Tisci’s designs and the new direction he took the Givenchy label in. There was an abundance of Asian and African influence – the kimono styles were a particular favourite – as well as sequins, loose draped silhouettes, lapels, pleats and more. Lady Gaga can pretty much pick out her tour wardrobe from the Comme des Garcons collection, while Jean Paul Gaultier referenced everyone from vintage Madonna to Grease’s Danny Zuko (played expertly by model Coco Rocha) among others. We think JPG gets the prize for most entertaining catwalk show – especially since the audience members were treated to a performance from trained ballet dancer Karlie Kloss. Oh to have been in Paris! Pamela Anderson sat pretty on the Vivienne Westwood FROW, and although we don’t believe the collection was made exclusively for her, we can definitely her donning more than a few of the pieces in the next couple of months. Bigger was definitely better, with a “more the merrier” approach to colours. Christian Dior Comme des Garcons Givenchy Jean Paul Gaultier John Galliano Vivienne Westwood

The Teen Choice Awards 2013 – the best dressed!

Is it really Teen Choice Awards time already? Time really does fly as it seems like only yesterday we were gushing about the sartorial choices of the stars of Young Hollywood. Click here to refresh your memories and check out what Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and friends were wearing on the red carpet this time last year. Ok, that’s enough reminiscing. Knee deep: Revival of the over-the-knee boot

Ankle boots, yes. Cut-out styles, OK. Cult (and costly) Saint Laurent suede versions, HELL YEAH! Thigh-highs, oh, wait… The above pretty much defines our reaction to the plethora of boot styles spring/summer and autumn/winter 2013 threw at us. It only takes one breathtaking street style snap, or a trio of similar design to appear on the runways (three’s a trend and all) to kick-off a religious shoe following, elevating an otherwise unbeknown boot to god-like status, and putting impossible cigarette heels at the forefront of that which is considered de rigueur when it comes to attention-grabbing footwear. So, naturally, when we laid eyes on the new season’s latest obsession, over-the-knee boots, we had to take a step back in contemplation and figure out if a boot spanning our arm length and then a bit more, could possibly make its way into our shoedrobes come September. On the runway, we blame Tom Ford for his endless, mosaic-effect offerings; Céline, for the spray-on leather beauties peeking out from under the most perfectly flared skirts, and Emilio Pucci for seducing us with buttery soft, hip-touching boots that left us in a state of permanent drooling. Even a recent celeb spot, namely Lily Collins in the ‘Big Lips’ O-T-K boots by Christian Louboutin had us cooing with envy at the sheer leg-lengthening effect these mighty boots deliver! But let’s not look away from the fact that, often, boots surpassing the calf haven’t always received rave reviews, or been held in the best light. Negative associations with certain ‘professions’; accusations of undergoing a mid-life crisis if caught rocking a pair past a certain age, and the general consensus that over-the-knee boots scream ‘I’M A VAMP’(particularly when worn in the day) have all existed at some point. But is it possible, that the British Vogue seal […]

The Vanity Fair and Elton John Oscars after parties: The best dressed!

So we’ve pretty much exhausted the coverage from the 85th Academy Awards red carpet arrivals, but that doesn’t mean we’ve finished with this year’s Oscars altogether, oh no. In true Hollywood fashion, some pretty spectacular after-parties followed, and once again they came courtesy of Vanity Fair and Elton John. Cue another best-dressed list which was pretty hard to conduct because the famous faces of Tinsel Town really “brought it” in the sartorial sense. Some ladies continued with the elongated and elegant dresses (i.e. respective Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress winners Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway) while others decided to go more fun and flirty and flashed the flesh in some shape or form. Take a look at some of our favourite after-party looks – did yours make the list?
