The Neckline Secret Every Plus-Size Woman Should Know for Maxi Dress Perfection!

When it comes to plus-size maxi dresses, finding the best necklines can be a bit of a challenge.  Thankfully, there are some necklines that work particularly well for plus-size women who are looking to flatter their curves and look their absolute best. The Best Necklines for Plus Size Women’s Maxi Dresses Scoop or V-Neckline One of the most popular necklines for plus-size women’s maxi dresses is a scoop or V-neckline.  This type of neckline helps to create the illusion of an elongated torso which is incredibly figure-flattering on curvy bodies. It also has enough room to cover up any cleavage without being too revealing or conservative – making it the perfect go-to option! Boatneck Another great option for those with larger busts is an empire waist dress with either a high or low boatneck style neckline.  Unlike V-necks which draw attention towards your bust line, boat necks do just the opposite and make your chest appear smaller than it actually is while also highlighting your shoulders and décolletage area instead – ideal if you don’t want too much attention drawn upwards! Cowl neck Finally, cowl necks are gorgeous statement pieces that look beautiful on every body type – especially plus sizes!  This style helps to drape over curves in all the right places without drawing too much attention towards problem areas like stomachs and hips, and they come in both plunging looks as well as more modest yet still stunning options depending on how bold you’re feeling that day! Best Maxi Dresses For Plus Size Women With these three amazing necklines for plus-size women, you’ll have plenty of options to nail that perfect maxi dress look – no matter your shape or size! Whether you’re going for subtle chic or all-out fierceness, adding one (or all three!) to your wardrobe […]

Lunchtime Buy: Floral maxi dress

[noskim] Erm, yes we have looked outside. We know the heavens have opened up and there’s an abundance of rain pouring down London town. We know it, and more devastatingly, our new shoes and freshly blow-dried hair know it. Sob! This is why we’ve decided to sort of tempt fate (and those pesky weathergods) by snapping up a cute floral summery piece from our favourite plus size fashion store – City Chic. After lots of browsing and um-ing and aah-ing, we decided that our hard-earned money is going on this pressed floral maxi dress; we heart the gorgeous flowery print, the sweetheart neckline, the self-tie sash back which cinches in the waist beautifully and the lightly padded bodice for starters. And we love the pleated skirt, as it will make us look taller and slimmer in an instant! It’s perfect to wear to the office on dress-down Fridays when the sun is out – just pair with a cute cropped blazer and some smart sandals and you’re good to go. Alternatively, wear this beauty to a summer picnic with an edgy studded leather or faded denim jacket, or pile on the bangles and add a sparkly bolero and some sky-high heels for a slightly more formal occasion. Your best gal pal’s spring wedding perhaps? Basically, we’re saying that this is a hard-working versatile maxi dress that will see you through the spring/summer season, as the mixing and matching opportunities are practically endless. Or if you’re off on your jollies in the next few months, just whack it in your suitcase and wear it anywhere your heart desires: beach, cocktail bar, club, sight-seeing… the choice is yours! Discover What Sweaters To Wear With Dresses With These Insider Tips

Are you stuck in a style rut, pairing the same sweater with the same dress day after day? Do you yearn to unlock the secret to creating jaw-dropping sweater-and-dress combinations, but don’t know where to start? What if we told you the ability to create showstopping sweater-and-dress outfits is easier than you think? Ahead, we walk you through everything you need to know to expertly pair sweaters with dresses. You’ll learn foolproof tips for combining colors, textures and silhouettes so you can create chic, put-together outfits with minimal effort required! The First Step: Evaluating Your Dress Silhouette When pairing a sweater with a dress, the foundational step is to assess the silhouette or shape of your dress. Every dress style has its own unique flair that requires a complementing sweater shape to balance it out. Here are some common dress silhouettes and what sweater styles work best with each: Fit and Flare Dresses As the name implies, fit and flare dresses hug the body through the bust and waist, then flare out into a full, A-line style skirt. To balance the flared skirt, you’ll want a more fitted sweater on top. Turtlenecks, slim-fit pullovers and mock neck sweaters enhance the waistline beautifully. For extra flair, tie a sweater around your shoulders or neck for a scarf-like effect. Bodycon Dresses Slinky, tight bodycon dresses scream sex appeal. The clingy fit hugs every curve, so balance is key. An oversized, slouchy sweater softened the look. Try an exaggerated drop-shoulder cardigan or an extra baggy v-neck knit. The sweater provides coverage while the dress peeks out to show off your figure. Shift Dresses Shift dresses have a straight, box-like shape that lacks definition at the waist. Pair with a belted, tie-front or cropped sweater to add feminine curves back in. Peplum sweater styles […]

Outfit Options for Different Occasions on Holiday: A Guide to Stylish and Practical Dressing

Going on holiday is an exciting and rejuvenating experience, but the thought of packing can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to choosing outfits that are both stylish and practical. Whether you’re spending a day at the beach or going out for a night on the town, there’s a perfect outfit for every occasion. Ahead, we’ll discuss some outfit options for different occasions on holiday, from beach days to dinner dates.  Beach Day  A day at the beach calls for an outfit that’s comfortable, practical, and easy to move in. A one-piece swimsuit or a bikini paired with a cover-up or a kimono is a classic beach look that’s both functional and stylish. Choose a cover-up that’s lightweight and breathable, such as a linen or cotton tunic. Add a wide-brimmed hat and some sunglasses for sun protection, and you’re ready to hit the beach. A straw tote bag is also a great accessory to carry your essentials, such as sunscreen, a water bottle, and a book.  Lunch at the Beach  For a lunch at the beach, you want to wear something that’s comfortable, stylish, and suitable for the warm weather. A ruffle dress is a great option, as it’s flowy, feminine, and adds a touch of playfulness to your outfit. Choose a dress in a light fabric, such as cotton or silk, that’s easy to move in, and that won’t stick to your skin in the heat. Pair it with flat sandals or espadrilles, and add some statement jewellery, such as hoop earrings or a pendant necklace, to elevate the look. A crossbody bag is a great accessory to keep your hands free while you enjoy your lunch.  Exploring the City  When you’re exploring a new city, you want to wear something that’s comfortable, stylish, and suitable for walking around. Stunning Bridgerton Inspired Dresses You’ll Love – and the secret behind the amazing costume design

What did we do over the holiday period?  Well, we umm ate loads, drank too much, and wished we’d binge-watched Bridgerton. ‘Cause actually we were kinda late to the party with this one.  We only started watching Bridgerton after seeing so many of our lovely followers tweeting about the show. And oh man are we glad we checked it out ‘cause it really was sooo good.  Produced by ShondaLand and based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels, Bridgerton is centered around the Bridgerton family. In particular the eldest daughter Daphne and her quest to find Prince Charming. It’s pretty much Downton Abbey meets Gossip Girl, complimented with fantastic music, stunning outfits and a huge dose of scandal. And it’s funny too. But best of all it was great to see proper diversity in a period drama.  And yeah, it also didn’t hurt that Duke Hastings was so damn CUTE!  Considering all the rubbish news we’ve had lately, Bridgerton was a welcome escape. We’ve just finished it and honestly, we can’t wait for season two.  But in the meantime, we’re crushing on the outfits and searching for Bridgerton inspired dresses to wear as soon as the weather decides to warm up.  Join us!  First let’s have a look at some of the awesome fashion moments this season had to offer.  Best fashion moments  Set in the Regency era, as you would expect the dresses in Bridgerton are predominantly embroidered empire-waist gowns, with each character sporting a signature colour or print to define their character’s personality. However unlike the fashion in the Regency era, if you notice there’s not a bonnet insight in the drama. And what made the costume design so successful? Rather than drawing inspiration just from the Regency era, costume designer for the show, Ellen Mirojnick took inspo from the […]

If you feel like you’re sacrificing comfort just to look chic, then you have a thing or two to learn about buying these essential undergarments. Indeed, shapewear is designed to make any ensemble look more stunning, but it shouldn’t be something you’re dying to peel off at the end of the day. So, how do you know which styles are right for your body? And what about sizing? Are there certain features to look for? Fret not, we’ve got you covered (literally). Read on for some must-know shapewear shopping tips. Stay true to size It might be tempting to buy shapewear in a smaller size than you normally wear. After all, it seems logical that the tighter it is, the more effective it will be — right? Except that’s not actually the case. Shapewear that’s too small will not only be uncomfortable, but it will also likely be unflattering as well. When these garments fight too tightly, they can cause unsightly bulges, thus totally defeating the purpose of wearing shapewear to begin with. You should invest in high-quality shapewear that fits snugly with no excess fabric, but also doesn’t cut off your circulation, either. If it’s your first time shopping for shapewear or buying […]

How to Dress for a Job That’s Hard Work

Not all of us have the desire or privilege to work at a job where we can wear impressive, expensive clothes. High paying jobs are often a fashion show in the board room, with executives sporting tailored clothes of fine fabrics from impressive designers. Then there are the rest of us – some of whom work in settings like restaurants, the outdoors, healthcare, and more. There can be a temptation to neglect your clothing and appearance, just because the rules of your workplace obligate you to dress a certain way. It’s easy to think that because your clothes will so closely resemble those of the rest of the staff, that you can wear something a little sloppy, and just “fade into the crowd”. This is particularly true in our first example: people who work in restaurants. No matter whether you are a chef or you work front of house, there is a good way and a bad way to approach your daily dress. Even if you are limited to pants, shoes, and jacket of a specific color and fabric, there is still plenty of room for individuality. www.chefworks.com has a many examples of chef wear that is interesting and attractive, while exceeding the quality standards of many common retailers. Instead, focus on quality and fit of everything you buy. Have two, three, or more jackets so that you always have one cleaned and pressed for work, even if you haven’t had time to do laundry recently. Buy shoes that are comfortable and of high enough quality to be easily cleaned, without getting quickly worn out. Have clothes tailored so that you appear trim and professional, without being uncomfortable. Fit is an especially important for people who work hard over many long hours. It’s possible for clothes to look proper and […]

Five Evening Dresses to Wear on Your First Date

Finding an evening dress that will dazzle other guests is not so simple. Adhering to the theme of the evening while remaining elegant yet comfortable isn’t easy. But, I’m here to tell you that it is possible to be elegant, seductive and radiant by choosing the right clothing! This is why we have found you some evening gowns to wear in any season to help you in choosing your outfit and some tips. The first thing to know is that you should choose a dress based on your skin. With darker skin, one can make use of more daring, bright and flashy colors. Chestnut or black dresses may not contrast enough for your skin, and similarly, those with lighter skin might go with a darker color of dress for maximum accentuation. Another time-tested option is to find a color of dress that matches your color of the hair. Here we have a classic little black dress with a modern touch thanks to its ruffles. Elegance in all circumstances. A red dress, chic, simple and always on trend. Perfect for brunettes! A flashy and colorful dress, preferably for those with darker skin. But not only! People of all skin tones can pull this off and stand out in style. If you want to refine your bust, you can opt for a dress with thin shoulder straps and without a plunging neckline. In addition, if you want to highlight your shoulders, short or puffy sleeves are ideal. The cut is also important, depending on what you want (or not) to highlight. For example, a straight cut or an empire cut will tend to make the belly forms less visible (a body or a wide belt will also have this effect). The jacket you put on will also have an effect on your […]

5 Ways to Dress Stylishly When It’s Cold

It seems like once the temperature drops for the season, all of the clothes you absolutely love go into hibernation and it’s time to break out the frumpy and billowy coats and sweaters. On the contrary, those coats, sweaters, long skirts, boots, and various other winter clothing have massive stylish potential all on their own. You can discover this for yourself by trying out these five different ways to style up your winter wardrobe. 1. Layer, Layer, Layer Winter really means you get to wear more of your fashion-friendly clothing at the same time. If you have a sleeveless dress or shirt that you love, throw on a turtleneck or other long-sleeved top under it. Layer long-sleeved turtlenecks and sweaters with ponchos and coats. Put on some leggings under that skirt. There are all kinds of possibilities, and even combinations that might ordinarily seem like they clash could surprise you at how well they work. 2. Get Creative With Scarves Scarves are the ultimate winter accessory. Whether you have a favorite cold-fighting wool scarf you just won’t leave home without or there’s a beautiful infinity scarf that will go perfect with your new pea coat, explore your options and learn to wrap it in a new way. Infinity scarves can be worn as head covers as well as in various designs around the neck, so experiment with it and try something new for every outfit. 3. Grab a Belt If your coat or layered look still seems a bit drab, grab a belt and wrap it around the outside. It gives a slightly slimming appearance and adds just the right amount of metal to pull almost any outfit together. You can keep it tight or let it hang loose. 4. (Faux) Fur Is In It’s a good idea to steer […]

The perfect AM to PM dress and how to wear it!

Finding one outfit to wear for an entire day is easier said than done – especially if you’re a busy yet fashion conscious lady. Is it possible to find an outfit to wear to the office and the cocktail bar without so much as a change of shoes? Of course it is – and we’re going to prove it to you! The key to nailing the AM to PM look without having to carry a spare pair of heels in your bag or fumbling around in a small toilet cubicle and asking the next woman to enter the bathroom to zip you up (so awkward!) is to invest in a day-to-night dress. How to Dress for Summer in Three Different Scenarios

It is the wonderful summertime, and many of us are absolutely thrilled. After all, no season is quite like summer. This fantastic time of the year brings memories that will last a lifetime and will fill up your scrapbook, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with seemingly endless photos. You will find yourself experiencing more sunshine, vitamin d, and mood-boosting sunlight simply from this very season alone. You will also find yourself (and family, or even friends) taking time off to enjoy stress-reducing time spent outdoors. It could be by the beach, at a barbeque, or at a park. Summer is also famous for parties, barbecues, day trips, vacations, and several other fun social events. If you are looking to appear your best for the summer, these are some great ways to show off your fashion sense in three different situations. 1. At the Beach If you choose to spend your summer at the beach (which, by the way, is an excellent idea) then first things first: you are going to want to check out suitable bathing suits. One of the best and most perfect options for the day spent at the beach is a patriotic bikini. Why not mix patriotism with a bathing suit if you are going to be in a hot setting? You will thank yourself later for this decision. Also, do not forget to add a red, white, or blue pair of flip flops. These will go great with your patriotic bikini or bathing suit. 2. At a Barbeque Let’s admit it: every time summer shines its sunny head, barbeques are always afoot. Everyone enjoys a barbeque during the summer time, and for a great reason: you will find the most delicious burgers, hot dogs, steaks, and other grilled food under a hot sun with good friends. Solid […]

Emma Stone is Worst Dressed of the week in Chanel

Seldom do A-listers set a sartorial foot wrong; but this week, Emma Stone has done just that! Attending the Berlin premiere of her latest film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro, the actress wore a Chanel creation from the pre-fall 2014 collection. Featuring an embellished, ankle-grazing maxi skirt and tucked in multi-coloured top, it made for on-the-fence look. We’re not to sure about the gold embroidery sitting again the three-way colour palette, and the exposed heels make the outfit appear awkwardly short, rather than purposefully so. But, it’s not just the outfit that isn’t sitting right with us. The tightly curled do she debuted with this look doesn’t suit the delicate outlook of the outfit; wispy chiffon calls for a softer hairstyle. Props for the make-up, though, and for going sans accessories, as too much would’ve completely written off this look! Although she hasn’t failed to impress, sartorially speaking, during the promotional tour of her film, this look is one that’s let the side down. What do you make of this outfit? [Image: Zimbio]

Celine Dion is Worst Dressed of the Week in Atelier Versace

Here’s a look that has fiercely divided opinion this week. Celine Dion took to the stage at the The Voice season 5 finale earlier this, week dressed in a rather raunchy Atelier Versace number. And for us, it just doesn’t work. The singer wore the teensy black dress from the Fall 2013 collection to perform her latest single, ‘Incredible’ ft.Ne-Yo. The embellished, high neck LBD features a rather revealing cut-away panel at the chest, showing a lace corset underneath, with full length sleeves and a dangerously high hem. There is nothing wrong with the dress per se, but paired with Celine’s open, tousled locks, its looks a little too busy around the neck area. And, then there’s the cardinal rule of dress dressing: chest or legs, not both. Although cleavage spillage is kept to a maximum with this look, the thigh-grazing length of the dress competes all to much with the revealing chest area detail. We’re pretty envious of the 45-year-old’s amazing figure, but would’ve preferred a longer hemline. The Fall runways were all about peek-a-boo detailing, which makes this dress ideal, but a case of wrong styling got the better of Celine’s look. Finishing off her look were simple black pumps, and strong black eye make-up. What do you think of Celine’s look? Does it work for you? [Images: Style.com; Zimbio]
