Quite long but a great article by the NY Times entitled Is Fashion still Cool?
I have tried to write my view but I keep deleting and re-writing. I just can’t decide what my opinion is on this matter. Sometimes I feel that fashion is still cool and still has an edge to it, and at other times I’m disappointed with the fashion industry. The city and the Rodeo Drive Committee, a business group made up of merchants, landowners and hoteliers, has chosen Armani as the first honoree on its new Rodeo Drive Walk of Style. This is a very interesting article which highlights the point that unlike the music and film industry the fashion world accepts rather than rejects imitations. I have never actually thought about this in depth before and I have always viewed copying as the norm in the fashion industry. It is not unusual that you have the runway shows full of new trends and creativity and within 6 months there are duplicates in the high street shops.
