Lakme’s success…
Lakme Fashion week began with controversy with its split from the Fashion Design Council of India (who went ahead with another fashion week naming it the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week) and ended in further controversy when some of the models were slightly over-exposed on the runway.
Although Lakme faced stiff competition with Wills lifestyle who had 80 designers compared to Lakme’s 20, it proved more of a success. Buyers at Lakme Fashion week were C K Tang, Browns, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lords and Taylor Harvey Nichols, and 10 of the participating 20 designers look set to go international.
Los Angeles fashion week in October 2006 will debut Manish Malhotra, Priyadarshini Rao and Surily Goel . Sabyasachi will be participating at the Olympus Fashion Week at New York in September 2006.
Singapore Fashion Festival, March 2007 will display the work of Savio Jon, Anshu Arora Sen and Rocky S. While Mercedes-Benz Australian Fashion Week will show Nandita Mahtani , Narendra Kumar Ahmed and Sonam Dubal
