Cream of the crop

These days I find analysing red carpet dresses pretty tedious, everyone plays it so safe and when one star does attempt to be slightly fashion forward and take a risk they get criticised a hundred times over. Example? Jennifer Hudson in Oscar de la Renta. I just don’t agree with the masses on this one, her jacket was cute and complimented her figure. No doubt Andre Leon Talley, the man supposedly responsible for the apparent disaster that was her outfit won’t be asked to lend his efforts anytime soon, even if he is Anna Wintour’s right hand man.

Coming out in the Nude….

Soft nude shades seem to be a permanent fixture in the stores at the moment and have a very delicate almost romantic look about them when combined with silky fabrics, frills and lace as illustrated by this baby doll dress from Christopher Kane at Topshop. Lose the accessories and dress up with heels for a night out or for a more casual approach pair with skinny jeans, pumps and an effortless hair do.

It’s a boy/girl thing!

I’m not really one for the transference of women’s fashion to the guys, in my opinion this should have stopped at the ‘man bag’; however it totally works the other way around! And judging from the looks which emerged from the spring catwalks, I’m not the only one who shares the same sentiment.

Stella_Paul_Wunderkind
Collections from the likes of Wunderkind, Stella McCartney and Paul Smith (as shown in the picture above) drew on basic masculine cuts to create ranges of tailored shirts, blazers and shorts especially for us girls. The great thing about each of these looks is their adaptability to different occasions, so whether you’re scheduled for an important lunch, followed by a meeting at the office then dinner and drinks with friends you can easily incorporate aspects from these styles into your day without having to rush home and change.

Strap on your Manolos and ready yourself with a strong cosmopolitan: The news we’ve been waiting to hear is finally out. Yes, you guessed it, Sex and The City, the movie, is finally in the pipeline. For anyone who religiously followed the musings of Carrie Bradshaw, worshipped the style god that is Patricia Field, and for all the legions of fans left desolate when the hit series ended in 2004, our prayers have finally been answered, as we hear that actor Mario Cantone (a.k.a. bitchy queen Anthony Marantino) has leaked information that a script is being written by veteran scriptwriter, director and producer of the TV series, Michael Patrick King, Metro.co.uk quotes Catone as saying

“I know the script is being written and I know it will be brilliant because Michael Patrick King is writing it. I know that I’m in it - I have a nice part in it, I’m told. If it happens, we should film it in the early fall I think”.

Making his Marc

Style god Marc Jacobs brought the New York fashion elite to London last week when the opening of his Mount Street store coincided with his Marc by Marc Jacobs show at Claridges on Friday. Both events were fabulously cool and star-studded, and the Champagne flowed late into the night at The Connaught hotel, but now the hangovers have subsided it’s time to focus on the real matter at hand: The contents of Jacobs’ Mayfair boutique.

Marc by Marc jacobs

The multicoloured flower-filled windows, reminiscent of Notting Hill Carnival floats promise something special within – and the interior don’t disappoint. The Stephen Jaklitsch-designed space is furnished with cool Christian Liagre furniture, and stocks all collections from menswear and kids to the top-end Marc Jacobs line. Handbags like the Speedy and Venetia will have fashionistas in a frenzy, whilst less affluent Marc fans can stock up on pieces exclusive to the store such as a quirky London taxi-print tee (£11) and two-tone wellies (£19) that will have us looking forward to rainy days – though don’t let these prices fool you into a false sense of security. A dress can still set you back a cool £1000 and more, so channelling Jacobs’ muse Sofia Coppola will have to be left to the real Mayfair ladies-who-lunch brigade.
