gavin header 2 Gavin Douglas: London Fashion Week

It was elegant and sultry at Gavin Douglas. Entitled “Queens of the Ocean, Douglas gave us his interpretation of 1940′s glamour with his first collection at London Fashion Week since wining the coveted Fashion Fringe award. The collection was focused on dressing for travel, and I loved the added touch of vintage suitcases coupled with provocative silk wrap dresses, fitted skirt suits and pleated shirts paired with satin pencil skirts.

Stand out pieces included a white top with weighty feather sleeves, a high collared tanned cropped leather jacket and a military style beige double breasted trench coat. Colour came in the form of lime, yellow, wine red along with cream, metallics and glossed black to balance. Soft fabrics gave the silhouette fluidity and sensuality. I was mostly surprised at the lack of the usual top industry faces which I’d seen at many of the collections earlier on in the week, but nevertheless Douglas’ debut was a winner.
