The hype behind this simple yet creative eco-friendly creation from Anya Hindmarch is incredible and be warned demand is high! The “I’m not a plastic bag goes on sale today and if you’re looking to get your paws on this re-useable shopping bag which retails at £5 each then get down to your nearest Anya Hindmarch store quick time, or visit wearewhatwedo.
Now personally I love this bag and I adore Hindmarch even more for designing it, but I do wonder if like every other “must have everyone is dying to get one because of hype rather than the genius of the design. Its been promoted endlessly with reports of Lily Cole, Erin O’Conner and Keira Knightley seen bag in hand and the sceptical side of me wonders if they forked out their fiver, or if they received the bag as a gift. Either way as a result of the celebrity endorsement the bags were going for £200 on ebay. Madness! While it is a cute alternative to the plastic bag, there are and have been loads of stylish eco-friendly bags on the market for a while now so what makes this one better than the rest?

It doesn’t really matter where it’s made, or what it’s made out of… The point is, people who like this bag will want to use it and that in itself can reduce the consumption of plastic bags.
The goal wasn’t to diminish child labor or cheap labor in China.
If people like this bag and decide to use it as an alternative to plastic shopping bags, then the message and goal is effective.
People who want this bag know its intended purpose and ultimately it’s a personal choice to stop using plastic or not. The bag itself doesn’t make a difference, it’s the attitude people adopt.
The message is boldly imprinted on the bag so it’s promoting awareness and a 2nd look at things.
Like if you bring it to a supermarket where everyone is packing their stuff in plastic, they might think twice next time.
people just dont understand charity and its purpose.
you wouldnt sell a comic relief red nose on ebay to pockey the money to yourself would you?! so why do it with a bag thats been designed by someone else for a purpose of charity!
you people are greedy whoever chooses to sell on ebay!
and i have you know people are wanting heaps of money for a bag worth only a fiver! its disgusting! its sick! and its wrong! last time i looked on ebay the first bid was for a £1000 that was from the person who placed up suprises that no-one was gunna bid upon it!

I think it’s ridiculous that your getting so shirty about people making a bit of money from these bags! Not once did Anya Hindmarch state that these bags would be for the benefit of any charity! The message is simple, and the sole purspose was to TRY and stop the world using so many plastic bags.
To compare these bags to Red Noses is ludacris.
I do not think for one minute that people putting these bags on ebay is greedy! It’s human nature everyone want’s to make a bit of money! It’s just like you going into a shop and saying, ‘i’m not buying anything from here becuase they’re making a profit’ It is neither ‘sick, disgusting nor wrong’
Your probably just jealous that you didnt manage to get one of these bags, and your too tight to buy one of ebay! They’re selling on there, so it appears that most of the people buying these don’t have the same attitude as you.

I’ve just been slected to receive one of the latest “I’m not a plastic Bag” Bags via the We Are What We do site. I registed back in March before the first release in the UK but was unlucky and also had no luck being selected on June 20th when they released another limited number!!
But yesterday evening I got an email saying that as other lucky people had not taken up the offer of purchasing the bag their 7 day limit was up and I was now being offered the chance to purchase !!

I think it’s crazy that the prices are that high for this bag and the designer is not giving ANY of the proceeds to charity! She designed it for a ‘good cause,’ then took all the cash for herself!

I was fortunate enough to obtain 3 I’m Not a Plastic Bag totes when they went on sale on 7/18/07. I purchased them at the Greenwich, CT Whole Foods store. It was fun waiting on line , even though everyone got a little wet. The bags really are cute, and well made. I was pleasantly suprised by how roomy and stylish they were. Too nice, I think, to put my groceries in. Maybe I’ll use them to tote stuff to the beach, etc.

hey every1, im from ireland an if u think queueing for 3 am is bad.. i have to queue all night i started at 8pm an the bags went onsale at 9 am.. but it was so worth it an the shop made a big fuss an have drinks an newspapers an all ther!
the bags are coming down on price on ebay. you just need to spend a few hours watching them and bid at the very last minute. ok, so there are still the odd 1 or 2 bags that go for like £200! but i got one the other night for £29.99 all in postage and all! arrived yesturday! so happy to finally get my hands on one! sad i know, but i love bags and this was a nice addition to my already growing collection! good luck to everyone that is still trying! oh, wee tip off, if you live on UK Mainland only, you can buy the bag from the ‘we are what we do’ webpage, while stocks last, and as I said UK Mainland only. And if the auction is using the stock photos ask the seller to send you photos of the actual bag they have. Between reading the guides and asking for pictures I managed to dodge bidding on some inferior fakes.

apparantly you can get this bag for £20 on a particular website, a friend of a friend got one but it allows one per household, anyone know what site, can’t find out to get one?
