5 tips for surviving fashion week

I for one am looking forward to fashion week especially London Fashion week. (Yes I know I am biased) Although Preen have sold us out for New York and Gharani Strok is MIA this season, we do have the return of Matthew Williamson and Luella Bartley to look forward to! While fashion week is perceived by many as glamorous I think its safe to say it definitely isn’t for the faint hearted. For those that are attending for business or pleasure here are some tips to get you through the week. And if anyone has more please leave them in the comments section. I’d love to hear your tips for surviving one of the most hectic times in the fashion calendar.

1. Don’t forget to charge your battery
It’s SO annoying to have the battery in your camera kaput in the middle of the show especially just before a model comes strutting down the catwalk in that “must have” piece. I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard people swear silently because of a dead battery. Charge your battery the night before and save yourself the annoyance.

2. Prepare outfits in advance
After a stressful day of running from show to show and having to complete your write ups in the evening, the last thing you want to do is search for the perfect outfit for the next day. Prepare at least 5 outfits in advance with 3 of them being able to carry you from day to night just in case you haven’t the time to run home and change for any after parties.

3. Carry reading material for the wait.
Sometimes the wait before a presentation can be horrendous! It’s a good thing if you’re running late. However if you happen to find yourself early for a show with no one to start small talk with, its always good to have interesting reading material on hand.

4. Meet up with fellow bloggers
If you’re a blogger, instead of waiting around in between shows why not arrange to meet with fellow bloggers and have a coffee or lunch during breaks. It’s a great way to finally meet with any friends you’ve made in the blogosphere whilst comparing notes.

5. Wear comfortable shoes
Last but not least its tempting to pair your outfits with those gorgeous killer heels….I mean where better to show them off but at fashion week right? But if they’re not comfortable and you can’t imagine yourself trekking around in them for long hours, then ditch those heels quick time! It’s just not worth it. Instead find a stylish pair of shoes which look great but don’t commit murder on your poor feet.

Well said! Though may I add a reminder to bring gum or mints (bad breath does not make a good fashion show neighbor!) as well as hand-sanitizer! As fashionable as they may be, those shows and chairs are full of germs! So not chic!

Great tips. However people always ask me what on earth they should wear to London Fashion Week. Should they dress up or play it casual? My advice is to wear what you feel comfortable in. There is not one dress code at LFW people wear a wide variety of things from cocktail dresses to suits and ripped jeans and t-shirt. However the most important thing is that they wear what reflects their personal style. If you are really stuck for ideas then simply wear black.
