I don’t have extremely high expectations when fashion week comes around. I don’t expect to be wowed and it’s always inevitable that designers will re-hash looks from the past. However I do crave exciting, fresh new takes, but so far I feel slightly let down by what I’ve seen from certain designers. Collections from Jason Wu, Vena Cava, Charlotte Ronson and Erin Fetherston were pretty, cute, wearable (which is always good) but dare I say boring? It appears that there is a fear to experiment and a preference to submit to the powers that be, by producing collections certain to make it in the so called important magazines.

Charlotte Ronson (see image above) gave us a commercial, girly, feminine collection with a healthy mix of shorts, dresses and slim fitted trousers.

Jason Wu lost credibility points with his attempt to be the Oscar De La Renta of this season but made up for it with an exciting use of contrasting colours.

The look was relaxed yet smart at Vena Cava. The floaty maxi dresses paired with plimsolls and cropped blazers definitely stole the show.

Keeping her palette predominantly clean, Erin Fetherston embraced a more grown up look this season. Aside from the fact that she should have ditched the turbans it was good to see an alternative side to Fetherstone.
