Catwalk Breakdown: Westwood Rocks Out!

by Gabi Muller on September 8, 2008

vivennewestwood_080908Queen of the catwalk, Vivienne Westwood, is set to launch her first ever compilation album, Catwalk Breakdown, this month.

The 67 year-old fashion designer is the epitomy of modern day punk mixed with designer cool, so it’s no wonder that she’s breaking down the boundries and turning her creativity into something else we can all enjoy.

Model.Live: My Oh My…Our Madeline is Quite the Fashion Stalwart

by Ikechukwu Onyewuenyi on September 8, 2008

Madeline Kragh on Facehunter

Now it’s quite natural to expect models to be up on their know-how when it comes to personal style, so it didn’t surprise us to see Ms. Madeline Kragh of Model.Live on Face Hunter’s coverage of New York Fashion Week. Definitely a resume builder! We joke. But it seems Madeline’s not only a budding model by Vogue’s standards, but she’s trailblazing the street style scene with her rather dashing argyle socks paired with some rakish two-toned brogues! She’s literally hitting the ground running!

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fiona Cotton Dress

by Elizabeth Richardson on September 8, 2008

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fiona DressSelf-styled authority on all things fashionable and sartorially worthy, Nina Garcia, author of The Little Black Book of Style, recently released a book detailing the one hundred must have items of every fashion savvy woman’s wardrobe…among them is the veritable holy grail – “The Little Black Dress”.

Since the moment Audrey Hepburn stood, cigarette holder in hand, on the set of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, in her inimitable Givenchy-clad glory women the world over have sought solace in the consistently reliable LBD.

Now, I could probably count on one finger the number of women I know without one, but the challenge isn’t the finding one, but seeking one out with that seasonal edge. I’m beginning to sound like a hopeless fashion victim so I’ll get to the point… The two-birds-one-stone effect is a rare but beautiful thing in the world of fashion but it has been brilliantly achieved by the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fiona Cotton dress. A little black dress with a nod to the architectural embellishment of the season? Hurrah!

Designer Alert: Nicola De Main

by Ysella Ash on September 8, 2008

nicolademain_080908

Who: Everyone likes to have that one designer, band or movie that for a while at least seems like their own well kept secret, their own little discovery, an unearthed treasure only recognised by them. Furthermore it is always a little bit disappointing when it turns out that in fact the whole country are thinking the same thing (think Arctic Monkeys before myspace).Young London designer Nicola De Main is a classic example of this and the kooky designer is set to design a range for ASOS, making her creations available to the masses.

We all covet that elusive one-of-a-kind couture piece, something which provokes envious stares, lustful glances and jealous whispers. Well ladies, I’m here to tell you that most of us already have one at our disposal but aren‘t showcasing it to its true potential; the newest accessory that with a little bit of effort can match every outfit in your wardrobe seamlessly, is the boyfriend.

Five Minutes With: Vogue (US) TV Presenter, Louise Roe

The one thing I love about fashion week is…the front row opposite - sometimes watching what the audience is wearing is more interesting than the show itself. I think the fashion in London is so eclectic and really creative - anything goes, especially during fashion week!

A normal day for me consists of filming a live segment very early in the morning and making sure I get strong coffee beforehand, then making notes for my column in the London Lite - remembering any funny moments or cool fashion spots - then usually whizzing home to change before a few meetings with pr’s or producers in the afternoon. I’m working on TV formats for a channel in America right now, so at the moment I add to it every day. I try to relax or head out with friends in the evening but often end up glued to my laptop, catching up with emails until it’s way too late to do either!

If I wasn’t working in fashion I would be sleeping! I’m so tired at the moment from a big promo tour in the states for VogueTV (US). No, I’ve always loved interior design, I think I would be doing that or writing novels, that’s another ambition.
