Even the name Twinkle by Wenlan makes you smile, so it is difficult to be displeased with the designer’s latest outing. True, it wasn’t groundbreaking, but the label is known for its fun, youthful designs as opposed to plowing into new fashion territory. Simply put, you won’t find a power suit here, or a high-fashion gown. Instead, Wenlan hits a sweet note in between with a mix of wearable dresses and separates.

The Fall 2008 line was dominated by black, navy, grey and mauve, with restrained splashes of red and gold. The garments were playful but fuss-free with clean lines; tops had buttons silk-screened onto the fabric instead of the real thing, and one dress featured a tuxedo-style placket and collar—in back.

Dresses were augmented by gem detailing (primarily black), and the designer’s signature chunky knits were present in the form of long cozy scarves (nicely juxtaposed against airy silks).

The collection topped off with two maxi dresses overlaid by thick-knit oversized sweater vests belted tightly at the waist. Twinkle has come through again as a line of delightful pieces that will always have a place in your closet.
