A Summer Hit. The T-shirt!

Everyone’s doing it this season. From high street store, Uniqlo, to high-end label, Mulberry. The simple t-shirt in once again fashionable, except this time it isn’t about sporting the names of rock bands across your chest. Instead, it’s about cool, funky designs and patterns that only a true artist could conjure.

UNIQLO seem to be championing the high street t-shirt boom, with the latest offering being fronted by to-cool-for-school, Chloe Sevigny. Aptly titled, the UT T-shirt collection, the designs are available in various themes such as Surf Print, London Pop and Keith Haring (which features some interesting Manga-inspired images).

The great thing about the collection (apart from the great designs, of course) is the price. Available at just under £13 each, it would be a sin not to buy one in each design!

If you prefer to spend slightly more on your clothing, you could always go high-end. Fashion designer Julie Verhoeven has collaborated with Mulberry to create some seriously fabulous men’s and women’s tee’s.

The designs are so cute, featuring cuddly cats, pigs and rabbit motifs, and for Mulberry the price isn’t too bad either. £50 gets you a piece of designer history.

The last option is for the truly brave fashion folk. It’s called T-post. The concept is like this, you pre-pay for twelve t-shirts that are sent to you over a period of twelve months (one a month, geddit?).

They only cost about twenty pounds each, but it’s a complete gamble – I mean, what if you hate it? Check out www.t-post.se to find out more.

So, need I say more? Can you already imagine the outfit - skinny jeans, fabulous t-shirt, and fitted black jacket. How can you possibly go wrong?

I’ve never been big fan of the T shirt, especially those emblazoned and bejewelled with phrases such as “Princess” and “Sexy Girl”. However, I do tend to like those with funky designs like the grey one with the cat.

I saw a spring line of T-Shirts by Single Stitch and love the graphics!!! I want to purchase the shirts but can’t find out anything about them. Evidently it’s a new line being offered. Thanks for your comments.

Here in the States, we’re still in the heat of the political season, so the Obama, Clinton, McCain, anti-McCain, anti-Clinton, ad nauseum…t-shirts are, if not a fashion statement, at least a political one. This may be a phenom you Brits don’t experience because of your (sensibly) short campaign periods.
