Ankle Socks. A Summer Staple!
Footwear, legwear and general leg exposure is always a bit of a tricky area when the sun bestows it’s gentle rays on pins as white as mine are. All sunkissed summer looks feel about a million miles away from appropriate for a little Scottish girl.
Anyway, with a dominating addiction to layering, a combination so simple as bare legs/ sandals/ skirt just, well bores me. Thank goodness, then for Zac Posen’s resort collection reminding me of my favourite summer ankle wear - little girl white socks and pretty, pretty shoes. The kind with little frills or crochet look best and are best teamed with paintbox shoes and scruffy layering (try to avoid looking too ‘Gossip Girl” pristine and co-ordinated. You want to look like you might suddenly be inclined to scrabble up a tree….)
Let me count the ways in which I love this combination:
1. They make your most ridiculously pretty shoes look all fresh and summery
2. They remind me of summer schooldays, making daisy chains in long grass
3. You can buy actual little girl socks from department stores and finally appreciate summer for all the pretty joy it can bring.

I just watched Sex and the City for the first time (yeah, I know)and I recall Carrie wearing black socks with her shoes in one of the early scenes in the film when she told Samantha her and Big were getting married. It worked in my eyes, but that’s me!
