Dubbed “the next big thing”, model Ruslana Korshunova fell to her death on Saturday afternoon from her ninth-floor apartment in Manhattan. With no signs of a struggle, police subsequently ruled the model’s death a suicide on Sunday. In addition the construction netting around the balcony from which she fell appeared to have been ripped deliberately.

Conflicting reports about Ruslana’s state of mind dominate news reports. Friends claim the model was in high spirits with a close friend of Ruslana’s stating that,

‘There were no signs. That’s what’s driving me crazy. I don’t see one reason why she would do that.’

While the Daily Mail confirms that the model left messages on an undisclosed social networking page that tell a different story writing in January that,

‘It hurts, as if someone took a part of me, tore it out, mercilessly stomped all over and threw it out.’

Discovered in 2003, Ruslana who was with IMG models was dubbed “the next big thing” and has been featured in French Elle and Russian Vogue and in ads for Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Vera Wang and Christian Dior.
