Key Item for AW08 or Not? Louis Vuitton and Murakami Monogramouflage Collection
With the men’s runways of Milan and Paris awash with a flurry of tote bags and many women looking to alter their springtime accessories for the expectant fall, I’ve been doing little digging around for some choice numbers for this fall.
Some bags that have caught my eye for all the wrong reasons were Louis Vuitton’s recent Takashi Murakami-designed Monogramouflage Collection of luggage, handbags and small leather goods.
The line of limited-edition Monogramouflage accessories were launched at Brooklyn Museum’s Murakami Exhibition on June 1st and was made available at select LV stores from June 15th to July 13th. However, the reviews have been somewhat mixed.
Personally, Louis Vuitton’s iconic Toile monogram is fast-becoming an aesthetic bore, however, I’m not balled over in excitement by Murakami’s camo print rendition. The various hues of army green being splashed atop the LV monogram is very pop-art influenced, but it screams gaudy to me and hardly inventive.
Several celebrities have been caught with the Monogramouflage Speedy 35 tote bag in hand and my verdict is awfully cliché and out of place. Granted that the dominant camouflage print embodies the bold, heavier aesthetic that tend to be seen in fall accessories, but at the same time the camo print has gotten very antiquated so when it’s paired with the humdrum LV monogram, it literally makes me cringe.
But if you’re an enamored with LV and just can’t do without their purses, then the Speedy 35 ($1,530) is half decent and available at Louis Vuitton.
eLuxury is also carrying the Monogramouflage collection along with some of the ready-to-wear items and costume jewelry inspired from line.

I’ve never been a fake of LV, especially the bags. It seems like everyone has one, or at least a rip-off, which really takes away from the luxury of them.
Covering their fake leather bags with something that looks like a Bape print doesn’t help either. I’m really not feeling this one.
