Style Icon: Penny Lane

Last night, during what may easily have been my one hundredth ever viewing of “Almost Famous”, it occurred to me that Penny Lane seems somewhat prematurely to have the A/W 08 trends all sewn up.

Penny, also known as Kate Hudson peaking before a lifetime of rom-coms and Matthew McConaughey stole her away, has been the longtime style icon and role model (groupie is still my plan B career choice) to the hippy in me. But all of a sudden her 70s sartorial haziness seems relevant to the fashion world at large.

Obviously an advocate of the ubiquitous 70s folk trend with her sunlit curls, sheepskin coat, hippy blouses and music crowd credentials, she also does a nice line in delicate lace tops.

Her look is an inspired lesson in how to wear winter’s gothic lace trend for late summer days; teamed with breezy, folky beauty. Which I think is quite enough reason to begin viewing number 101….
