The Secret Obsession by Calvin Klein Commercial: Why All The Fuss?
A couple months ago, TV execs here in the U.S. literally had their panties in a bunch over Eva Mendes’ sexualized commercial for Calvin Klein’s Secret Obsession perfume. Evidently, certain panties could not be unravelled and the television networks went on to rebuff the TV ad all together.
After being banned from TV, Calvin Klein has gone public with the apparently eye-brow raising TV ad and I’m scoffing at the pseudo-conservative gibberish that cloaks the U.S. Hardly a nipple or unsightly pubic hair is seen in the roughly 30 second ad so I’m a bit befuddled by why the U.S. television networks pulled the ad! And talk about jumping on the bandwagon…YouTube has gone on to ban the infamous TV ad, citing that the footage “has been removed due to terms of use violation.”
Funnily enough, the brouhaha these TV execs (and umm…video sharing sites) are making over Calvin Klein and Mendes’ risqué TV ad pale in comparison to the birthday suit display Mendes did for PETA! These TV networks just need to take heed of previous run-ins with overt displays of sex (i.e., Janet Jackson’s half-time peep show at Super Bowl 38) and realize no real harm comes of it.
Secret Obsession is set to hit stores mid-September and the print and TV ads (if certain panties are ever unravelled) will also follow suit around the same time period.
