True to It’s Calling, Comme Des Garçons Delivers Avant-Garde for H&M

With the countless Target GO International collections and the occasional H&M-designer collaboration, you would expect the coming together of high-street and high-end fashion to at least sit well with me. Well for fear of witnessing an overly watered down aesthetic, I tend to steer clear away from these high-end meets high-street collaborations. However, Rei Kawakubo’s Commes Des Garçons capsule collection for H&M has dispelled all that angst and delivered a designer collection that is truly reflective of her partiality for the avant-garde.

Take the eerily rakish female model complete with a “Dutch Boy” bob that sports black harem pants and a deconstructed Edwardian cutaway jacket —classic Commes Des Garçons.

In keeping with the label’s tradition Kawakubo’s palette remains relatively monochromatic, but she gingerly throws in slight hints of burgundy, midnight blue, and pastel pink to appeal to the mainstream. The line launches this November at selected H&M stores.
