Sophisticated lustre in our autumn/winter wardrobes is essential for the upcoming party season. For me, silky, metallic jacquard is undoubtedly the chicest way to inject your winter wardrobe with some glistening vibrancy with zero risk of looking cheap or over the top. Perfect to dress down with a cashmere jumper, woolly tights and boots or dress up with heals and a delicate evening top, DKNY Lurex jacquard mini skirt in ‘amber combo’ (£220 available at net-a-porter) is perfect for casual and party occasions and will effortlessly brighten up a winter day or night.

Seen here at the DKNY show the skirt was stylishly pieced with a woollen hat, sheer, glitter-icious top, chunky knit cardie woolly tights and heals for an effortless down-town girl look.  If you’re not quite brave enough for a mini, then the range also incorporates a longer berry coloured number in jacquard, a tank dress of the same shade and a strapless dress in the colour ‘Brindle’.

Many designers are incorporating artisanal qualities into their clothes with the aim of making them recession-proof, choosing beautifully created fabrics such as this is one way of achieving this.  Jacquard is one glamorous example of such a luxurious fabric created from the loom machine invented by a man to whom the fabric owes its name over two hundred years ago (a harmless piece of fashion history for you there!) Beautiful works of jacquard also worked their way into the collection of Oscar de la Renta as well as Philip Lim. Get lustrous ladies!

If she was forced to wear one designer's clothes for life (oh what a chore that would be!) it would either be Christopher Bailey for Burberry or Stella McCartney.
