Some would argue but I think Avsh Alom Gur’s prints were the best I’d seen on London’s catwalks for Spring/Summer 09. Inspired (quite obsessively) by the chair, this was the theme running through Gur’s collection. It appeared in the accessories, the prints and his summer wedges. Firstly, the prints. The fun and bold efforts were seaside British in their light exuberance and the willowy models were almost dragged sideways by his chair earrings, their arms weighty with big bangles and hair tucked neatly away with fantastic print hair scarves!

Getting to see this highly sought after show in the Vauxhall Fashion tent happened purely by chance (someone saying ‘ere, do you wanna ticket?’) but boy, am I glad it did!
My initial thoughts on this collection was that of 1940s working women, prancing about with their chiffon jumpsuits and pinny dresses while the boys fought a war but all the while maintaining that darker edge i.e black lipstick and the ‘couldn’t give a shit attitude’ of the models.. The music nicely contrasted with this by keeping the jolly retro theme going. All in all, a great show and one of his most saleable collections to date me thinks.
