The 70s invasion has continued to dominate the catwalks. We’ve seen flares, stars and stripes, graphic t-shirts not to mention those lumberjack shirts and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a crop top or two. Well now you can welcome the shag pile, and this isn’t a shag pile for your floor oh no, this one you’re going to wear.

The Autumn/Winter 08 catwalk shows were dominated by Mongolian sheepskin coats. And expect to see these shaggy creations in all shapes and sizes, Mulberry’s bright red one is sure to turn heads, whilst Dolce & Gabbana’s cream gilet is a far more wearable alternative. But these coats are about making a statement and now this high drama outwear has filtered down to the high street and everyone from Topshop to Miss Selfridge has their own take on the shaggy jacket. But would you wear one? Could you wear one? Or is it just a gimmick?

You’re going to need to balance out the bulk so that means skinny on the bottom half. Think skinny jeans or straight leg trousers, or if you take inspiration from Topshop’s Unique collection then you may want to invest in skinny leather ones, not for the faint-hearted!

Avoid flares at all costs unless you want to look like an extra from That 70s show. Keep the top half simple, maybe a jersey polo neck or lumberjack style shirt. Another alternative is a mini dress and tights, this will make your coat look sexier and more cutting edge, cute ankle boots will also compliment this tricky trend.
