Net-a-porter.com, the innovative, high luxury online store has secured the exclusive video of Alexander McQueen’s pre-spring 09 collection of eight statement pieces.

McQueen’s dramatic and opulent autumn-winter collection of February last was collectively received by the fashion press as one of the most beautifully coherent and influential visions of all of the season’s shows, in keeping with McQueen’s career to date.

Viewers of the exclusive video were invited to take in the eight key pieces, exploring the much worked contrast between masculine and feminine, see some behind the scenes footage as well as a succinct overview of McQueen’s starting career since his graduation from Central Saint Martins, narrated by Colin McDowell, fashion historian and founder of the influential Fashion Fringe.

The pieces themselves, including a stunning tailored sleevless, pinstriped all-in-one in both black and white offered a really fresh take on tailoring for women. Styled with a pink and black snake belts respectively with a seductive deep V neck, are then explained in greater detail by the editor of NET-A-PORTER.COM

My favourite piece was the ultra modern graphic stripe dress that gave picture perfect curves to the super slender model, I just hope it looks as fantastic on the every-woman! Its must see for all fans of McQueen, arguably the most talented of all of Britain’s fashion designers.

UPDATE: This post includes a correction. The collection shown on NET-A-PORTER.COM was a pre-SS09 collection and not SS09 as initially reported.

Elizabeth Richardson is curently studying for a MA Fashion Journalism at Central Saint Martins and has a weakness for cocktail dresses, lipstick and mojitos. If she was forced to wear one designer's clothes for life (oh what a chore that would be!) it would either be Christopher Bailey for Burberry or Stella McCartney.
