After her sell-out success for Topshop, the textile talents of Celia Birtwell will be gracing another iconic store. This time, it’s John Lewis, and she’s lending her haute-hippy hand to the British brand to design a 25-piece collection.

Her signature whimsical prints will work their way across dresses, blouses, embroidered knitwear and trousers, though we can expect something very different to her Topshop designs, she says.

“A collaboration means you really work with them and they have their ideals and their customer. I have to address their customer – which isn’t the same as Topshop,” the British designer tells Vogue UK, explaining she is keen to design for her generation of over 35s.

“I was looking for the right vehicle for a collaboration and then Jo Hooper [head of womenswear buying at John Lewis] approached me,” she says of the collaboration. “I’m very pleased with the prints and mix of prints.”

Starting at £65, Celia Birtwell’s collection for John Lewis is available now on the fashion floors of the department store. And if you want Celia’s pick, go for the navy dress – it’s her favourite.
