How to wear it: slouchy knits

5th October 2010 1:00 pm

With the new season well and truly upon us, we’re hailing slouchy knitwear our hero pieces. The perfect cosy throw-on that’s ideal for layering over vests and long-sleeved staples, they’re a nod towards autumn’s outdoors trend and come as chunky or as luxe as you’d like.

We love Jaeger’s mohair stripe jumper, which is as soft and sumptuous as it is cool and casual – and its cobweb crochet is a contemporary twist away from classic.

But if you want to know how to wear yours without looking like you’ve borrowed from your boyfriend, take heed of our helpful hints below.

Burberry Prorsum quilted wool-blend skirt, £206.50, theOutnet.com

Play with proportions and team your slouchy knitwear with a knee-skimming skirt for an unconventional style update this season. Burberry’s nude quilted wool skirt is great for adding extra texture and gives a good colour contrast for a subtle but slick statement.

Waffle knee socks, £8, Topshop

Add a pair of berry-hued chunky knit socks scrunched at your ankle – it’ll give your look a catwalk-inspired preppy edge and add a pop of autumnal colour to continue the rural theme.

Opening Ceremony chelsea boot with faux crocodile skin, £345, Browns

Finish off with a pair of textured nude ankle boots for a quick ticket to chic pared-down styling. We’ve been lusting after Opening Ceremony’s chelsea boots with faux crocodile skin for quite some time – they’ve got an ultra-cool-but-classic design that feels so right for autumn.

Mohair stripe jumper, £199, available at Jaeger
