6 cardigans you’ll want to wear forever

3rd February 2011 2:00 am

We’ll level with you, we love a good cardigan. Great for snuggling up in winter, an ideal cover up for cool spring evenings and perfect for those just-in-case days in between, cardigans are our unsung hero piece.

And, now that we’ve hit that tricky transeasonal period, there’s no better time to snap them up. We’ve scoured the stores to find you six of the best cardis – cute, classic and cool – that you’ll want to wear forever, because, hey, sometimes the simple things are just as sweet.

1. Knitted angora mix cardigan, £38, available at Topshop

Ah, grey marl. Everyone loves grey marl. Never in nor out but always cool (especially thanks to Alexander Wang), this knitted angora cardian from Topshop with its flat-faced gold buttons is an easy everyday throw-on.

2. NEAL by Neal Sperling cable cardgian, £65, available at Urban Outfitters

A classic cable cardigan with double patch pockets, Neal by Neal Sperling’s oversized chunky knit is given a cool preppy accent with its timeless, fuss free design. It’s available in seven more colours, but we’re fans of the neutral – it’s the perfect companion for spring’s rainbow brights and pared-down palettes.

3. Jaeger Black double face lurex cardigan, £299 £119.20, available at Jaeger

Looking for a smarter option? Mix the chicness of a blazer with the easiness of a cardigan and go effortlessly sophisticated with Jaeger‘s luxe lurex cardigan, complete with cool contrasting cuffs and metallic domed buttons.

4. Chloe chunky knit cashmere cardigan, £303.75, available at theOutnet.com

For time’s when you need something longer in length, Chloe’s sumptuously soft cashmere cardigan is your style saviour. With dolman sleeves it’s spot on for spring, but its earthy chartreuse green will see you through autumn and the transition in between

5. Day Birger et Mikkelsen wool and sequin cardigan, £158, available at Matches

If you can’t survive without a bit of bling, go glam with Day Birger et Mikkelsen’s wool and sequin cardigan – its light lilac shade won’t only have you dreaming of parma violets, it’ll sweeten all manner of shades.

6.Sonia by Sonia Rykiel mixed polka dot cardigan, £185, available at my-wardrobe.com

Always trust Sonia Rykiel to deliver on its trademark quirky printed knits. We love this mixed monochrome polka dot cardi, and if you do too, you’ll be stamping signature spots all over the street – it’s the perfect way to add a playful edge to city looks and lift downtown dressing.
