Love or Hate: Carven column print dress

28th March 2011 1:30 am

Last week, with great sadness to the film industry, it was announced that Elizabeth Taylor passed away.

She was a real Hollywood icon and made some incredible films in her career. Not only is she a loss to the movie world, but the fashion world will also miss her greatly – when it came to style, she was fearless and confident. With every film she made she became more of a fashion icon. For me, I loved everything about Cleopatra; the costumes, headdresses and eye make-up were all so opulent.

Inspired by ancient Egypt, this Carven dress is gloriously archaic. The black and white temple column print is especially charming and makes a change from all the other geometric and floral prints around at the moment, and the sleeveless, tunic shape and zip detail at the back manage to give it a modern and youthful edge.

The idea of the dress is probably to let it do all the talking, however, on this occasion, I’m thinking we should all unleash our inner Liz and go ultra-glam. Pile on the gold-bangles, pair with vertiginous heels and put on enough kohl to make Winehouse jealous.
