We almost wish we were joking, but no, this has actually happened: the entire Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2012 collection has been stolen, thus putting an end to the press preview that was scheduled for today.

“Dear all,” an email sent out to members of the press who were invited to witness the collection first hand began.

“The Marc Jacobs PR team is sorry to inform you that our press day in the Marc Jacobs store is cancelled, due to the theft of the spring/summer 2012 collections during its transfer from Paris.”

And how does one manage to steal an entire 46-piece collection? The robbery reportedly took place on London’s Mount Street while the collection was in transit from Paris.

We wonder if the culprits know that they only stole samples and probably wouldn’t be able to sell as many pieces as they’d like, because only women of catwalk-model proportions would be able to wear the pieces.

Will it end up in the bin? on eBay? Either way, there’s a lot of angry editors this morning.
