Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Sir Paul come out to see Ab Fab’s Eddie switch on Stella McCartney’s Christmas lights

30th November 2011 10:23 am

The city might be strewn with festive events in the lead up to the 25th, but there was only one place to be in London last night, and that was Stella McCartney‘s Christmas lights switch on.

The annual event at the designer’s Bruton Street store always promises the coolest guest list and, with Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Bob Geldof and Richard E. Grant – and us, natch – in attendance, last night was like the who’s who of London legends.

This year’s hosting fell to another British icon, Eddie from Ab Fab (played by Jennifer Saunders), who gave guests gathered outside a hilarious introduction full of signature “sweeties” and sarcy remarks.

“Do we have any old models here? Oh yes, Kate (Moss),” she quipped. “You can’t compete with all these foetuses they’re sending down the runway now darling, you need PR sweetie!”

And so, as the lights came on, we rubbed shoulders with the cool crowd, ate mini mince pies and giant present-shaped cookies, drank mulled wine, wished Sir Paul a happy Christmas and got a close up of the back of Kate’s head. All in a day’s work, huh?

Quite possibly the funnest, most fashionable festive event of the year – and yes, we did grab a hot chocolate and roasted chesnuts from the mini stall on the way out.
