It’s true that not all of us have access to the world’s top designers or Kim Kardashian’s bank balance for that matter, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a wardrobe to rival the rich and famous….even if we are on a budget.

In fact, with a little research and a bit of planning, you too can have an enviable clothing collection. Here are our 5 essential tips for updating your look without breaking the bank.

1. What style do you want?

Now more than ever branding has never been more important and our image communicates our message. So, first things first. Write a couple of sentences to describe your personality and the image you’d like to portray. Reflect on which style icons best embody the look you’re going for and source as many relevant images as possible for inspiration.  Pinterest and style.com are great places to source pictures.

The great thing about fashion being so fast-paced today is not only the wealth of information we have access to but we’re updated on the trends right after the shows. This makes planning ahead so much easier. Decide which trends you’d like to play around with as well as the trends that are in line with your new image.

 3. Make a list

OK, so you know the look you want and the trends you’d like to channel. Now it’s time to make a list. Start with the essentials you’ll need, e.g:- a classic t-shirt, a cardigan, and a great pair of skinny jeans, followed by the more trendy pieces required to complete your wardrobe.

4. Have a major edit.

There’s no sentimentality allowed when it comes to the edit. It doesn’t matter if you purchased that dress at 50% off or if those shoes were a bargain. When editing your wardrobe, refer back to your list. If it’s not on the list then get rid.  Sell items you don’t need for a bit of extra cash or swap them.

5. Bargains galore

Look for bargains and discount codes to help with your cash flow. With nearly up to 70 percent off in sales, now is the time to snap up as many items as possible. Also, scour the internet for discount codes. You’ll be surprised how many of your favourite stores offer great deals all year round. You might need to do a little digging but it’s well worth it!
