Love or hate: Jeffrey Campbell Lita boots

The subject of today’s love or hate is a piece that is so popular in the fashion world, it might as well be renamed Fashion Blogger Uniform Item No. 1. Yes, girls (and boys), we’re talking about the famous Jeffrey Campbell Lita boots. The LA-based footwear label, now a decade old, sites its inspiration as coming from ‘the everyday woman, the girl on the street, the lady on the subway’ – so it’s no wonder Campbell’s designs have captured the imagination of the dedicated tribe of successful style bloggers who regularly feature his footwear in their self-made inspired shoots. Tall and whimsical in style, these boots in black snake are definitely a directional statement piece. So here’s the question: are these boots that will get you noticed, transform every outfit, and score you massive kudos points from fashion bloggers? Or are they fugly footwear that’s clompy and, um, a little hooker-ish? Let us know your love or hate in the comments below! Jeffrey Campbell Lita Boots in Black Snake, £120, available at Oxygen Boutique.

Lunchtime buy: Topshop Ambush Boots

Ever since the Acne Pistol boots became one of the most coveted items worn by fashion editors world over, we’ve been seriously lusting after them – the mid-sized heel and perfect shape made them one of the most versatile ‘it’ pieces around. Now Topshop has brought us the Ambush boot. With their comfortable yet stylish mid-heel and metallic side zips, they look remarkably similar to the Acne’s Pistols, but they’re a quarter of the price (thanks, Topshop). Deal of the day: Stuart Weitzman Amazonia boots

Love or Hate: Maison Martin Margiela scaled embellished ankle boots

Ankle boots are my thing. I would always choose a cool pair of booties over court shoes any day.  I like their laid-back edge and love the way they can toughen up a fussy look. Ideally, I go for a chunky heel or wedge, a nice round toe and soft black leather, although, there aren’t many I really wouldn’t wear. That is except for these Maison Martin Margiela leather scaled embellished ankle boots.  I’m not really into peep toes or stiletto heels, but those we can easily forgive. It’s the freakish scaling I really can’t pardon. I don’t know if the leather is meant to be crocodile, fish or snake but I do know that nobody wants scaly feet. Eugh.  The overly roomy shape, I also think, would be unflattering. I’m sure these boots are beautifully made but I’m just not feeling the design. If I owned them, I would probably channel the Americana trend and pair them with denim shorts and vintage tee or checked shirt. But overall, sorry Maison Martin Margiela, these are a bit too Crocodile Dundee for my liking.    Maison Martin Margiela leather scaled embellished ankle boots, £770, available at Browns. BUY NOW!

Love or Hate: Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Mary Ellen platform boots

I, like many others, have always really admired Chloë Sevigny’s unique sense of style. She’s never been afraid to push boundaries and always has an air of coolness around her. An indie icon in her own right, Chloë has never lost integrity or deviated from her original style. And news that she was collaborating with fashion emporium Opening Ceremony only made style-stalkers everywhere jump for joy. A fantastic pick from her latest collection are these Mary Ellen leather and wooden platform boots. In signature Chloë style, they’re tall, graceful, ruthless and utterly sexy. The wooden detail gives them a hint of nostalgia; like clogs but a hundred times hotter, and their six-inch heel is, graciously, made more wearable by a two-inch platform. Thank you Ms. Sevigny for doing your homework on shoe-geometry. These are the Johnny Depp of boots. They could rock up anywhere and look good. Pair them with a simple tee, jeans and leather biker for a relaxed day look or become a fully-fledged Chloë protégé by teaming them with a mini dress and bare legs. Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony Mary Ellen platform boots, £455, available at Browns. BUY NOW!

Love or hate? Amber Rose in Gianmarco Lorenzi boots

Like Lady Gaga and Nicki Manaj, Amber Rose’s outfits are usually put to together to leave us in shock and awe, but it’s starting to become a bit predictable. In fact, we’d be far better surprised if she played it safe in jeans and a T-shirt. During London Fashion Week, Amber Rose rocked up to Love magazine’s Alexander Wang party in the above all-red ensemble, complete with Gianmarco Lorenzi boots. Now mesh footwear’s a hot trend, but we think it’s best left to small detailing on dainty shoes to avoid going treading the border from tasteful to tacky. The boots probably aren’t the worse thing about Amber’s outift – a satin tomato coat over a pinky-red dress and tights? Really? – but the mid-calf length of the boots doesn’t flatter her legs, and wearing them with red tights definitely defeats the purpose of wearing peep-toes. But what do you think? Are Amber Rose’s boots fierce or just plain scary? [poll id=”37″]

7 Tips For Adding Accessories To Your Outfits

When it comes to personal style, accessories are the secret weapons that can make or break an outfit. Even the simplest jeans and t-shirt combo can look infinitely more polished with an eye-catching necklace or stack of bangles. On the flip side, the wrong accessories overwhelm an outfit and leave you looking mismatched. Finding the perfect accessories to complement your look is an art. Where do you even begin to pull together a cohesive accessorized outfit? Do you opt for a bold statement piece or minimal accents? How do you keep accessories from competing or blending together? There’s a fine line between just enough and too much when it comes to accessorizing. If you struggle with how to accessorize outfits, worry not! The good news is accessorizing becomes much easier once you understand a few basic principles. Follow these 7 tips to seamlessly add the perfect accessories to all your outfits. 1. Less is More When in doubt, opt for minimal accessories. Just one or two well-chosen accessories can elevate an outfit without overpowering it. Stick to one statement accessory as the focal point, such as a bold necklace, large hoop earrings or an eye-catching handbag. Compliment your statement piece with a simple accessory like small stud earrings or a delicate bracelet. Too many accessories compete for attention and look cluttered. 2. Mix and Match Textures Play around mixing different textures like leather, metal, wood and fabric. Contrasting textures make accessories more interesting. For example, pair a metallic handbag with a soft knit scarf. Or team the oversized yet popular Carrera sunglasses at 1001 Optometry with a fitted button-up and slacks Experiment with combining mattes and shines too. A shiny metal watch looks chic with a matte leather tote bag. Mixing up textures prevents accessories from blending together. 3. Pay […]
