Zooey Deschanel: “I want to be a feminist and wear a Peter Pan collar. So what?”

With her ruby red lips and perma-glossy brunette locks, the words glamour and Zooey Deschanel seem to fit together rather seamlessly. Hence why it doesn’t come as a surprise to find the New Girl actress and She and Him singer covering Glamour UK’s latest issue. Even though Victoria Beckham was crowned Woman of the Decade at the Glamour Women of the Year awards earlier this month, Zooey is the perfect cover star for the Women of the Year issue. The magazine actually has four cover stars this month – Rebel Wilson, Myleene Klass, Harry Potter himself Daniel and of course Miss Deschanel, but she is by far our favourite this time around. The piercing blue eyes and cute quirkiness do it for us! Her interview is also pretty bold and outspoken, which may surprise you – especially when she speaks out about feminism. “I’m just being myself,” she said. “There is not an ounce of me that believes any of that crap that they say. We can’t be feminine and be feminists and be successful? I want to be a f–king feminist and wear a f–king Peter Pan collar. So f–king what?” (We took out the expletives in the title!) Head to the Glamour website to check out the other three covers and let us know which one is your favourite!

Emma Watson is chic in Chanel for Bling Ring LA premiere

We can’t get enough of Emma Watson’s red carpet looks these days. It might have something to do with her short bob slowly but surely growing out, or it might just down to her personal style evolving – either way, whatever it is, it’s working! The 23-year-old actress is no stranger to wearing Chanel on and off the red carpet, but we think this is definitely her finest, chicest Chanel look yet. She rocked up to the LA premiere of her film The Bling Ring wearing a stunning tweed Chanel dress from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, with an exaggerated collar and visible zip. She accessorised with minimal accessories, covetable Giuseppe Zanotti peep-toe heels, an intricate braided bun in her hair, and a slick of Chanel-approved bold red lippie. Plus, is it just us, or does Emma have the most perfect porcelain skin you’ve ever seen? She might even give Dita von Teese a run for her money… flawless!

Highlights from the Chanel Resort 2014 collection in Singapore

Premiering the new Once Upon a Time… film at the Singapore Film Festival wasn’t the only thing Karl Lagerfeld was doing in the beautiful country, oh no. There was a little matter of the Chanel Resort 2014 show to go and stage, and as with all Chanel shows, it was really something quite spectacular. The Chanel we know and love was back for the Resort 2014 collection, leaving behind the darker side that was introduced to us during the autumn/winter 2013 show at Paris Fashion Week. (That’s not to say we didn’t love the pieces that made their way onto the catwalks earlier this year though!) We – along with the rest of the world – wondered why Kaiser Karl chose Singapore as the destination for the show when it was first announced, and speculated that there might be some Asian influence within the collection; after all when Karl has a theme, he likes to run with it! However, it wasn’t so much a case of being influenced by the Asian culture, but rather, a collection that is fit for all who live in sunny Singapore and the surrounding equally hot areas. Hence why the both fabric and colour was kept on the light side. We did our homework and found out that Singapore is actually the world’s fourth leading financial center with a host of different cultures, which was all reflected in the collection rather nicely. Coincidence or not, everything tied in together beautifully and we are once again left in awe!

Watch the full Chanel Once Upon a Time… short film right here

We showed you a sneaky snippet of it a few weeks ago, but now it’s finally time to check out Chanel’s Once Upon a Time… short film in all its glory. That’s right, you can watch all 18 minutes of it right here – you’re very welcome! Karl Lagerfeld directed the film to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the opening of the first Chanel boutique, and enlisted the help of Keira Knightley to play the coveted role of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. He also got modelling pros Lindsey Wixson and Stella Tennant to play the respective parts of Miss Wonderbuilt and Lady Grey; he even found a role for his adorable godson Hudson, as he plays the part of Coco’s nephew. No Chanel project would be complete without him! We’ll leave you to enjoy the film now… happy viewing!

Keira Knightley gets married in Chanel (and possibly recycled Rodarte)

And (just as we anticipated) the bride wore Chanel! As we told you last week, Keira Knightley and her Klaxons drummer boyfriend James Righton tied the knot at the weekend, in front of just 11 guests in the South of France. Congratulations to the newlyweds! Keira toned down her bridal look for the intimate ceremony, opting to wear a knee-length pale pink strapless corset dress with a full ballet skirt, which she teamed with flat shoes, a garland in her hair, and a tweed Chanel jacket. Some people are even speculating that Keira “did a Kate Middleton” and “recycled” her wedding dress from five years ago. Take a look at the pic of Keira in Rodarte and see for yourselves… looks pretty uncanny, right? We think the blushing bride and groom looked radiant on their big day – we wish them a lifetime of happiness together! What do you think of Keira’s wedding dress? [Image]

First look at Keira Knightley as Coco Chanel

Remember a few months ago we told you that Karl Lagerfeld asked Keira Knightley to play the part of Coco Chanel in a short film? It was big, exciting news – of course you remember! It’s now time to check Keira out in action, as a trailer for the film, entitled Once Upon a Time…, has finally been released. What do you think of the transformation? Keira Knightley won’t be the only recognisable face in the video either, as Kaiser Karl has enlisted the help of some of his old favourites too… make sure you keep a beady eye out for the likes of Stella Tennant, Lindsey Wixson, Baptiste Giabiconi, Brad Kroenig, and of course the one and only little star that is Hudson! We don’t have too long to wait for the entire film either, as it will be premiered in Singapore on May 8th, and will then be available to watch on chanelnews.com. Exciting times!

Diane Kruger for Chanel Beauty

FROW regular Diane Kruger is going to have yet another Chanel ad campaign under her chic and stylish belt, as it’s just been revealed that she is the new face of Chanel Beauty. A great casting, we must say! “With her natural elegance and beauty, Diane Kruger is one of the most famous faces of international cinema,” reads a statement from the French fashion House. “Attracted by her cosmopolitan spirit and artistic background, the House of Chanel chose her for its Allure fragrance advertising campaign in 1996, then again for the Paris-Biarritz bag advertising campaign, shot by Karl Lagerfeld in 2007. “Now an ambassadress for Chanel, Diane Kruger will be the face of a new beauty advertising campaign, due to be unveiled in 2013.” Ooo, we wonder what Chanel has up its sleeve for her… Diane’s Chanel Beauty ad campaign is slated for release later this year, so keep your eyes peeled! Miley Cyrus goes bold in Chanel!

We get the distinct impression Miley Cyrus wanted to be noticed when she attended an event at the CHOC Children’s Hospital in California, don’t you? She probably knew that people were going to be talking about her anyway (her on again/off again relationship with fiancé Liam Hemsworth is a hot topic of conversation right now) but now she’s given everyone a whole new reason… her outfit! We’d want people talking about us too if we looked like that! Wearing Chanel is always going to get you noticed regardless – there’s something about stepping out in a finely crafted Chanel number that just commands attention – but we think this striped jumpsuit takes things to a whole new level. Especially with the added wow factor bonus of the bold red lips. We love this look – it’s current, youthful, season and occasion appropriate… and Miley nails it with her flawless body and winning smile. That should definitely show Liam what he’d be missing! Keira Knightley to star as Coco Chanel in Karl Lagerfeld short film

Keira Knightley is already the face of the classic Coco Mademoiselle fragrance, and now it looks like she’ll be extending her working relationship with the French fashion House and its legendary creative director. Yep, Karl Lagerfeld has tapped Keira to play the part of Coco Chanel in a short film which will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Chanel boutique in Deuville in France. Exciting, no? Keira won’t be the only famous face in the film either – Stella Tennant, Tallulah Harlech and the adorable future heartbreaker Hudson Kroenig will also reportedly feature. We’re not-so-secretly hoping that little Choupette will make a cameo appearance too! We don’t have long to wait for the film either, as it’s slated to launch at the Chanel Cruise show in Singapore at the beginning of May. [WWD]

Alice Dellal returns for Boy Chanel SS13 ad campaign

Last year, the blogosphere was buzzing with the news that Karl Lagerfeld had tapped Alice Dellal – a somewhat unlikely choice – for the Boy Chanel ad campaign. There were a few cynics (we’d like to strongly point out that we were not one of them!) but they were soon silenced when the beautiful ad campaign images and video finally came out. And that was the end of that. So, we’re quite pleased that Alice and her signature undercut have returned – only this time she’s joined by an actual boy (hello Jake Davies – drool!), and erm… a horse! We think we get the message of the campaign; invest in a Boy Chanel bag, wear your finest, preppiest equestrian garb, and you too might have an encounter with a hunk. It’s a risk we’d be willing to take! We adore these ads – Kaiser Karl, you’ve done it again! What are your thoughts?

Paris Fashion Week AW13 highlights from Chanel, Valentino, Alexander McQueen and more

Chanel, Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, Hermes… it’s pretty safe to say that yesterday was one of the biggest days on the Paris Fashion Week and even Fashion Month calendar. Karl Lagerfeld always seems to outdo himself every season, and his autumn/winter 2013 show was no exception, as celebs and big-name fashionistas were transported to an all-too-literal “Chanel world”. As well as the breathtaking clothes, Chanel also gave us sparkling eyes to gawk at during the show. Last time it was all about the bedazzling lips, but this season the essential beauty look was sequins, which were carefully attached to the lash lines of the models. We love! Parisians were also treated to 10 finely crafted, intricate Alexander McQueen looks that had a very regal theme to them (think Tudors!), while Valentino resurrected the much-loved Peter Pan collar in a host of bold and striking pieces. Take a look at some of our stand-out looks from yesterday’s PFW action : Alexander McQueen Valentino Saint Laurent Paris Hermes

Keira Knightley’s “sexual” Chanel Coco Mademoiselle ad banned

We thought things were a bit quiet at Advertising Standards Authority HQ lately, and knew it would only be a matter of time until something incurred its wrath. Unfortunately for Keira Knightley and Chanel, it was the the ad for the French fashion House’s Coco Mademoiselle perfume. Due to a complaint received by ‘a viewer’ during Ice Age 2 claiming it was “overtly sexual”, the ASA has ruled that it can no longer be shown during children’s viewing hours, or around programmes which might appeal to them. “We considered the ad was suitable for older children, but that the sexually suggestive material was unsuitable for young children,” reads a statement from the ASA. “We therefore concluded that the ad was inappropriately scheduled and an ex-kids restriction should have been applied to prevent the ad from being broadcast in or around children’s programming.” So what makes the ad so sexual, you ask? According to a statement from the watchdog, we think it has something to do with the suggested nudity… “We noted that the photographer was directly involved in unzipping the actress’s garments and that there was a suggestion that she was naked aside from a bed sheet,” the statement reads. “We also noted that there was clear sexual tension between the pair and that they appeared about to kiss on the bed. We considered the ad was suitable for older children, but that the sexually suggestive material was unsuitable for young children.” The ad in its current form will no longer be shown during in or around programmes that children might be watching. Familiarise yourselves with the commercial below and let us know your thoughts! [Huffington Post]

Alexa Chung scoops Best Dressed of the Week in Chanel

With fashion month officially here, it’s only fitting we end our week with a name often affiliated with a distinct sense of style. Yes, we’re talking about the inimitable Alexa Chung who, not content with sitting pretty at every front row, has only hopped across the pond to become America’s fashion darling! Kicking of New York Fashion Week, the A-listers flocked to the annual amfAR New York gala in all their finery, and Alexa was once again waving the flag for us painfully stylish Brits in a gorgeous Chanel number. Looking more girly than school girl (bar the school photo stance), Alexa wore a pearl-embellished, black and white tweed dress from the Spring 2013 collection. She went for the look exactly as it was shown on the runway, but gave the heavy pearl choker a miss, instead accessorising with a Chanel shoulder bag and PVC toe-cap pumps. We couldn’t stop envying Alexa’s anything-but-perfect hair even if we tried, and the low, mussed up pony tail and peachy hue on the lips work well to give Alexa’s look a girly touch without wandering into stereotypical saccharine sweet territory. That just wouldn’t sit right with our favourite tomboy in a dress! Way to go, Chung!

Rihanna for Chanel?

Try and contain yourselves, but over the past 24 hours a few online sources are speculating that Rihanna and Chanel could very well have teamed up on a new and exciting collaboration. Where did the rumours initially start from, you ask? The Barbadian singer-cum-designer Tweeted a picture of herself after a “secret” shoot with Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott… and the heavily embellished Chanel necklace she is wearing in the image – as well as the Chanel-face shade of red lipstick and nail polish – is what let the potential cat out the bag. We don’t know any more details at the moment, but we don’t think Karl Lagerfeld would be opposed to tapping Ri Ri for a Chanel project. After all, he likes his edgy ad campaign stars; remember Alice Dellal in those stunning Boy Chanel ads? Watch this space!

Did Hailee Steinfeld get it right or wrong on the Chanel FROW?

If there’s one place to pull out the sartorial big gun s and dress to impress it’s the Chanel Couture Show. The FROW was packed with the hottest celebs from Rita Ora to Chanel fave Diane Kruger, but it was not-so-little-anymore Hailee Steinfeld who grabbed our attention the most. We can’t decide if that’s a good or bad thing though… not just yet, anyway. We think Hailee usually nails it on the red carpet with her age-appropriate but fashion-forward looks, but we were a tad perplexed by what she wore on the Chanel front row. We reckon she tried to tackle too many trends in one go which is a risk that sometimes pays off, but maybe not on this occasion… Hailee was sophisticated and mature chic from the waist down, and quirky classic Chanel girl with a twist from the waist up. We love the neon yellow clutch, but between the bright accessory, the hat, the dramatic make-up and the simple shoes, something went a bit wrong. We still admire her for going all-out though, and we’ll continue to anticipate her red carpet outfits in the future. What do you think of Hailee’s Chanel look? [poll id=”389″]

Couture Fashion Week highlights from Chanel and Armani Privé

Chanel time! Romantic, sparkly, pure, classic, bold, iconic, revolutionary – all of these words describe the Spring 2013 couture show that took place in the epic Grand Palais in Paris yesterday. There was an abundance of snowy-white pieces that were presented on the catwalk, which was very apt considering the current weather conditions. To finish things off and get people talking, Karl Lagerfeld presented two brides (British Vogue February cover girl Kati Nescher and Ashleigh Good, since you asked) in the finale to show that he is all-for same-sex marriage. And of course no Chanel show would be complete without Karl Lagerfeld’s adorable little godson Hudson Kroenig making an appearance – look how cute and dapper he looks in his white suit! Chanel wasn’t the only big show to take place yesterday though. Armani Privéalso had its moment in the spotlight, as a plethora of pant-suits were presented along with ultra-skinny trousers,  three-quarter length sleeves and pencil skirts. A really wearable collection that seems accessible, but isn’t short of wow factor… lots of fab colours and prints to get excited about, especially the shiny metallic pieces to appeal to your inner magpie. We hope Uma Thurman and Hilary Swank (who sat front row) pick out some good’uns for future red carpet appearances… exciting times!

Watch Lindsey Wixson in Karl Lagerfeld’s new Chanel Public Garden film

We’ll be showing you some of the key looks from the new Chanel Couture collection that debuted in Paris yesterday a little bit later on, but we thought we’d treat you to another fine piece of Chanel art first. Karl Lagerfeld shot a great black and white short film entitled ‘Public Garden’ at the Rodin Museum in Paris, which features model Lindsey Wixson and his very own godson Hudson Kroenig. The short film is romantic, playful, chic, and pretty much sums up the French fashion House in a nutshell. The Charlie Alex March Crisp White soundtrack is particularly moving too. Lindsey and a blonde female friend can be seen admiring their new Chanel purchases and touching up their make-up (Chanel, obvs) while French model Aymeline Valade struts purposefully along the picturesque gardens, turning heads with her striking stripy Chanel trousers. As usual, little Hudson Kroenig steals the show (he usually makes an appearance at the end of Chanel presentations) confirming that he’s going to be quite the heartbreaker when he’s older. Oh and before you ask, Choupette Lagerfeld also makes an ‘appearance’ too, but maybe not as you’d expect. Intrigued? Watch the video below to find out what we mean. Enjoy!

Karlie Koss, Arizona Muse and Chanel Iman honour Hurricane Sandy heroes in Vogue’s Storm Troupers shoot

The fashion world has tried to do its part for the victims and heroes of the Hurricane Sandy super-storm which affected America’s East Coast, with the Vogue/CFDA Fashion for Sandy relief auction raising an impressive $1.7 million for the cause. Vogue has now gone one step further by honouring the heroic emergency response teams through a stunning editorial photographed by Anne Wintour fave Annie Leibovitz in the brand new February issue. Models Karlie Kloss, Arizona Muse and Chanel Iman can be seen posing with members of the NYPD Special Ops, as well as Bellevue Hospital nurses, FDNY firefighters, US Coast Guard servicemen, and more equally as heroic people. We think the pictures are sensational as they are not only beautiful to look as far as fashion magazine editorials go, but they really do a great job of highlighting Hurricane Sandy on a personal level, which the readers will hopefully be able to identify and empathise with. Do you think the mag handled the issue well or could things have been a bit more sensitive? [Styleite]

Zooey Deschanel vs. Jennifer Lawrence: Who rocked red better at the Golden Globes 2013? (We can’t decide!)

It was a war of the fashion world’s greats over the weekend, as the crème de la crème of Hollywood took to the red carpet for the 2013 Golden Globes. And yes, there were a number of BDOTW-worthy looks floating about, but two ladies in red sent our style radar into overdrive: Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta, and Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior. Both stylish starlets rocked swoonsome, strapless red gowns with voluminous skirts; Zoeey in Pre-Fall 2013 ODLR and Jennifer in Christian Dior Fall 2012 Couture, and both made our Golden Globes Best Dressed list, but we’re still undecided on who looked better. An evidently embarrassing moment, as both stars would’ve laid eyes on each other and met with the other’s horrified, same-dress-different-girl look! But both looks equally floored us, and we love that competition with the red carpet didn’t phase these beauties. Zooey accessorised her look with a waist-accentuating pose and a large pearl necklace, whilst winner on the night of ‘Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical’ award, Jennifer, who is also the new face of Dior, added a metallic belt and Salvatore Ferragamo clutch to her delicious look. We’re going with both looks as winners, but we’ll leave you to decide who rocked red better. Comments below, please!

Karl Lagerfeld to take Chanel to Dallas, Texas

That’s right folks, Chanel is heading way down south as Karl Lagerfeld will be staging the next epic Metiers d’ Arts runway show in none other than Dallas, Texas. “First of all, I love Texas,” Karl said. “I love Texans. There’s another reason. When Chanel reopened, the French press was beyond nasty. The only press that understood it immediately was the American press, and Neiman Marcus gave her the Oscar for her collection, so I think it’s a nice thing to go there.” Those of you who remember the epic show that took place in Scotland last year will know that the venue isn’t something that Karl will be taking lightly, and if the Scottish show was anything to go by we can expect a full-on Texas-meets-Chanel infusion. “I try to find a connection, but the connection is often very vague,” Karl told WWD. “With Texas, it’s a detail, but with little detail, you can make a whole story. I am a storyteller for that.” We’re thinking a cross between cowboy hats and tweed, which on paper sounds a bit questionable, but we have every faith that Karl will make it work! [WWD]

Amanda Seyfried is pastel perfect in Chanel for InStyle US January

Anne Hathaway has been doing her fair share of promoting for Les Miserables, appearing on a number of different chat shows and magazine covers over the past few months, but her costar Amanda Seyfried is also doing her part too. The gorgeous blonde (who recently celebrated her 27th birthday would you believe – she’s come a long way since Mean Girls) is looking striking on the front cover of InStyle US’s January 2013 issue in a beautiful pastel blue outfit by Chanel. We love the soft, pastel tones in the pic, and think the cover as a whole is a gentle welcome to the new year. Fine photography by Dusan Reljin and expert styling by Samira Nasr makes this an all-round perfect cover – we don’t think we’ll be disappointed with the editorial either! Bring on 2013 – we are dying to see Anne and Amanda sing their hearts out in Les Miserables!  [Image]

Poppy Delevingne keeps out the Scotland chill in Chanel

If only we were gorgeous famous models and could don not one but two pieces of Chanel at the next event we attended… The newly engaged Poppy Delevingne wrapped up warm for the ‘Chanel: Metiers d’Art Pre-Fall 2013’ fashion show in Scotland last night, wearing a full-length double-breasted  blue coat from the fashion House’s autumn/winter 2012 collection. It pretty much looks like it was made for her, giving her a beautiful shape and complementing the warm golden tones of her skin and hair perfectly. We love the addition of the brown furry hat too – something so attention-grabbing could pull focus from the main attraction (which in this case is the coat, natch) but not in Poppy’s case: everything worked together seamlessly and she looked the picture of perfection! Poppy’s boots added just the right amount of effortless androgyny to the look, and the quilted Chanel handbag just gave the ensemble that final finishing  “wow” touch. Flawless – we can all take tips from Poppy for our winter dressing.  [Image]

Cara Delevingne does Little Bo Peep for Chanel Resort

Looks like 20-year-old model of the moment Cara Delevingne has yet another ad campaign under her belt, and we think this one’s going to take pride of place in her portfolio as it’s for the one and only Chanel! Bookings don’t come more exclusive and coveted than that, right? We love Chanel’s spin on the whole Anna Karenina meets Little Bo Peep look; it’s still very fitting for the period as far as the frills, hats and feathers are concerned, but we don’t think anyone in the 18th Century paraded around topless. Not even Downton Abbey could get away with that. We bet men would watch a lot more costume dramas if that was the case though! And the ad campaigns show a much softer side to the collection which was initially styled with rock-chick, punky accessories. Click here to refresh your memories! What do you think of Cara Delevingne’s Chanel moment?

New Bond girls stun in Chanel and Dolce and Gabbana for Skyfall photocall

In the lead-up to tonight’s big premiere, the James Bond Skyfall photocall saw some very gorgeous looking actresses (and the ever-dapper Daniel Craig – swoon!) turn up to get people excited about the film. French actress Berenice Marlohe and InStyle‘s latest cover star Naomie Harris in particular stole the show with their sartorial choices! Naomie stunned in a gorgeous white Chanel dress, which showed off the epic body that we assume helped land her the coveted Bond girl role. Great choice on the Pierre Hardy shoes too – somehow we don’t think a simple black pump would have sufficed for the edgy nature of the dress. Berenice Marlohe, who also plays a Bond Girl in the 23rd film, looked rather incredible too, wearing a figure-hugging grey Dolce and Gabbana number with a waist cinching skinny belt and a chic and effortless updo. We can’t wait to see what the girls wear for the London premiere which takes place tonight at the Royal Albert Hall. Stay tuned!

SNL parodies Brad Pitt’s Chanel No.5 ads

While we couldn’t be more thrilled with Brad Pitt’s appointment as ambassador for Chanel No.5 and think he is the epitome of perfection in the video, it looks like some people have seen a different side to it. A funnier side, if you will… Instead of going weak at the knees whenever Mr Pitt opens his mouth, the folk over at Saturday Night Live have found the commercial more humorous than anything else, and in true SNL fashion have parodied his video. “I’m sorry, is there really no script? Because I’ve been talking to myself for like two hours straight and I’m starting to sound insane,” Taran Killam says in the video, in his best Brad Pitt voice. “You want me to sound less coherent? Really? Ok. I can just start making up words.” He also pokes fun at Brad’s appearance, saying: “Is it just me or do I look super-homeless?” We think the Brad make-over is pretty spot on, so kudos to the make-up department! There’s no patch on the original Brad, and while we do actually love the real Chanel No.5 ad campaign, we don’t think there’s anything wrong with a bit of light-hearted mockery, do you? Brad Pitt’s full Chanel No.5 ad campaign is here! (Pics and video included!)

The wait is finally over, as Brad Pitt’s full ad campaign for Chanel No.5 has finally been unveiled. It couldn’t have come at a better day if we’re being honest; we needed something good to get us through this dreary Monday morning and this will definitely do quite nicely. Thank you, Brad! “What’s important to remember about Chanel No.5 is how revolutionary this fragrance is,” Brad said in a statement. “When it was introduced, it broke all the rules. Chanel No.5 has always been the most iconic women’s fragrance. “The beauty of its success for all these years is both elegantly simple and complex at the same time. That’s what I see being the appeal of this campaign ; it goes beyond the abstract of emotion or beauty to evoke what is timeless, a woman’s spirit.” What do you guys make of the campaign image? The video is just as haunting, brooding and seductive as we anticipated, as Brad and his sexy dulcet tones treat us to a 30-second monologue about journey, dreams, fate, fortune… and how Chanel No.5 is “inevitable.” We say no more; enjoy! Alexa Chung rocks Chanel Resort in New York

It might not have been hot off the spring/summer 2013 runway a’ la Diane Kruger yesterday, but Alexa Chung was also one of the many celebs to step out in Chanel for the fashion House’s “Fine Jewellery” celebration the other night. Our Brit gal rocked up to the prestigious event in a gorgeous off-white embroidered dress from the Chanel Resort collection, looking feminine and innocent as she strutted her stuff on the black carpet. We’ve seen a few other ladies slip on similar dresses from the collection, but we think Alexa has mastered the exaggerated skirt detailing the best so far. She could have gone for an intricate updo or something more defined as far as her hairstyle was concerned, but we kind of like how she kept it simple. Alexa’s style is usually quirky and somewhat androgynous, so we think her personality may have been lost in an overtly feminine ensemble. Well played, Chung!

Diane Kruger is the first to wear Chanel SS13 (quelle surprise!)

Diane Kruger is usually one of the first ladies to get her hands on a new-season Chanel creation literally hot off the catwalk, and this time was no different. The stunning blonde actress and Karl Lagerfeld fave attended Chanel’s Fine Jewellery 80th Anniversary Celebration in New York wearing a dark blue strapless dress fresh from the spring/summer 2013 collection, teaming it with a contrasting yellow clutch and discreet Christian Louboutin shoes. As the design was fresh from the runway, we doubt there would have been much time to alter it, but if there was, we wish the hem would have been taken up a bit to match the look of the runway model. And because Diane has ridiculously perfect pins so the more we get to see of them the better. A statement neck piece similar to that of the catwalk model wouldn’t have gone amiss either. There’s no denying that Diane looks incredible though. Diane Kruger + Chanel is always going to be a wining combination no matter what.

Sneak peek at Brad Pitt’s Chanel No.5 ad campaign

Try not to salivate as you read this (wish the same could be said for us – the non-drooling ship sailed a long time ago) but after months of rumours and speculation, we finally have a very cheeky teaser of Brad Pitt’s ad campaign for Chanel No.5. Chanel likes to tease us (remember all those Boy Chanel Alice Dellal sneak peeks?) and this is no different as the fashion House has released not one but three 8-second video clips of Brad Pitt. “It is the first time we’ve had a man speaking about a women’s fragrance. We think very much that the perfume is a seduction between a man, a woman and the perfume,” said Andrea d’Avack, a spokesperson for Chanel. “ No.5 is our leading fragrance, and we are willing to make the investment to keep it on that level.” And while we don’t get to see his godliness in action in the sneaky vids – we only have a pic to tide us over – we do have his sexy dulcet tones empowering the video. In the first vid, Brad utters the phrase “what’s the mystery” in a rather aptly mysterious, husky voice, while he also says “are you going somewhere? Where” and “do you feel lucky? Why?” in the other two. It’s all very 007 if you ask us! Brad’s Chanel No.5 ad campaign premieres on October 15th so make sure you check back here to see it in all its glory!

Midweek Moodboard: Chanel-inspired tweed

We got a fresh dose of tweed at the Chanel spring/summer 2013 show yesterday, which has made us fall in love with it all over again. For those of us who cant afford to stock up on Chanel separates (and let’s face it, that is actually most of us – sob!) there are other alternatives out there on the actual and virtual British High Street – hooray! And, as Karl Lagerfeld has shown us season after season, we know it isn’t just about the tweed jacket… no matter how iconic it is! If you want to mix it up a bit, there are other ways to embrace the tweed trend too so the options are virtually endless! Take a look at some of the tweed pieces that we are currently lusting after. Jennifer Lopez looks divine at the Chanel show in Paris

The Chanel shows during Paris Fashion Week always have an elite crowd in attendance, and today’s spring/summer 2013 show was no exception. Among the impeccably dressed A-list front rowers was Jennifer Lopez, who looked divine in a white Chanel dress with a daring plunging front and see-through cut-out detailing at the back. Jennifer arrived at the show wearing a black cropped jacket to keep out the Parisian chill, but we think it was relatively distracting so we’re glad she promptly took it off when she was inside the lavish Grand Palais. J-lo really was the epitome of the ultimate Chanel woman this morning, with her chic up-do, flawless make-up and of course, matching Chanel handbag. She attended the show with boyfriend Casper Smart and adorable daughter Emme, and we think we spied the four-year-old holding a white Chanel bag. Not at all jealous, honest!

Keira Knightley wears lace Chanel for American Vogue’s October issue

With London Fashion Week keeping bloggers and writers busy, it’s easy for some news-worthy items to get swept under the carpet. However, when the bit of news you’re referring to is English rose Keira Knightley fronting the October cover of American Vogue, you know that’s not going to happen. Especially when aforementioned cover star is wearing Chanel – and looking rather smouldering may we add! The lace dress on the cover screams Anna Karenina (the film Keira is promoting) but the gloves/sleeves – whatever you want to call them – give the look a bit of a modern, contemporary, and somewhat space-age feel to it. It shouldn’t work, but it does, right?! The editorial images are beyond brilliant too – shot by Mario Testino and styled by Grace Coddington, they showcase some of the finest Haute Couture items out there right now, and show Keira in a whole new light. We never knew she was capable of striking such fierce BINTM-worthy poses! Oh, and we should probably mention there are some hunky pictures of Jude Law in the editorial too… enjoy! [Vogue US]

Keira Knightley dons Chanel Couture for Anna Karenina world premiere

Keira Knightley and Chanel are the ultimate dream team, so it came as no surprise to learn that the fashion House had dressed the actress for the Anna Karenina world premiere in London’s Leicester Square last night! We weren’t totally loving this Chanel Couture gown when we saw it on the autumn/winter 2012 runway for the first time, simply because there’s a lot going on with it structure-wise, and the movement could be a bit complex for some people. Having said that however, Keira is no amateur, and she pulled it off rather effortlessly. (We don’t know how gracefully – or quickly – she walked while on the red carpet, but she’s definitely rocking it in all the pictures!) We had to show you a close-up of the look too, because at the end of the day, no one can do that porcelain, English rose beauty look quite like Keira Knightley. Exquisite!

Chanel’s Little Black Jacket exhibit is coming to London!

We may have just bid a sad farewell to the Olympics, but fear not Londoners, as Chanel’s Little Black Jacket exhibition is coming to our fine city. Hooray! The installation is based on the book The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld, and will be opening at London’s Saatchi Gallery from October 12th til the 29th. “The special event underlines the brand’s values of creativity, modernity and excellence,” reads a statement from Chanel. “The public will discover the versatility and timelessness of the iconic Chanel jacket through Karl Lagerfeld’s photographs.” The exhibit will feature 113 pictures of Chanel’s friends and family from the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker pictured above to Elle Fanning and Lily Allen among others. And apparently, the Chanel stores in Bond Street, Sloane Street and Brompton Cross will all feature some recent Chanel jackets in the windows to mark the occasion! Now all we need is for the Alexander McQueen retrospective ‘Savage Beauty’ to head our way and our year will be complete! [Vogue] [Image]

Chanel opens pop-up perfume shop in Covent Garden!

The Olympics just got a lot more fashionable! Yes we’ve been interested in the Stella McCartney-designed uniforms and all the Olympics-themed collections that have been thrust in our faces, but it’s a whole new ball game now that Chanel has been thrown into the equation. The French fashion House will be opening its first ever dedicated perfume store in Covent Garden later his month to coincide with the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Chanel will open a two-floor pop up shop in the Market Building in the Piazza, with all the classic fragrances and beauty collections available to snap up. “Introducing premium beauty brands into the Market Building has always been a part of our retail strategy for Covent Garden,” said Beverley Churchill, the Covent Garden London brand director.  “To open this fragrance and beauty concept store is a great coup for the estate and further proof point of how the area has changed.” We don’t yet know the exact opening date or how long the pop up store will stay for (although it’s currently set to open for six months) but we’ll keep you posted. Armani Privé and Chanel’s Haute Couture AW12 shows

The Armani Privé Couture collection was a very sugary sweet one, which used a dreamy sunset-worthy colour palette comprised of purples, blues and lots of sparkle to boot. Predictably, wide-legged trousers were in abundance, as was headgear in the form of beaded veils and black hats courtesy of Philip Treacy. Our highlights were the stunning dresses during the finale which were in a world of their own, but the loose, draped silhouettes that were presented throughout the show went down just as well. Despite being called “new vintage”, Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel collection had a somewhat 1940s vibe to it thanks to the wide shouldered, tailored pieces that came in mostly grey, silver, black and various shades of dusty and pastel pink. As we all know, Chanel invites are few and far between at the best of times, but Karl Lagerfeld really does only select the most exclusive of guests to attend the Haute Couture shows. However, Diane Kruger was naturally sitting pretty on the front row, and we can’t help but imagine her in 3/4 of the new pieces that came out. No doubt she will have first dibs on whatever outfit she wants, and we can totally see her rocking the check coat modelled by Anja Rubik on a frosty night out in the winter, can’t you?

Emma Stone concludes her The Amazing Spider-Man premiere duties in Chanel

Emma Stone has been on a whirlwind promotional tour for The Amazing Spider-Man these past few weeks, but we think you’ll agree that choosing Chanel for her final red carpet outing guarantees going out with an almighty bang! Emma chose one of our favourite looks from the Chanel Resort 2013 collection for the LA premiere, and we definitely think she pulled it off – even without the pink wig as seen on the catwalk! It’s a tricky silhouette with the structured shoulders and full, peplum-style skirt, but we think Karl Lagerfeld will be a happy man. Plus, the colour scheme works with her new hair colour and pale skin tone perfectly. Everything about this look gets top marks from us – we love the natural make-up teamed with the feline eyes, understated but very evident Cartier accessories (not even slightly jealous – honest!) and non-distracting, fuss-free Christian Louboutins. This was the perfect look to round off Emma’s highly successful Spidey promo tour, don’t you think? [poll id=”354″]

Zooey Deschanel scoops Best Dressed of the Week in Oscar de la Renta

The Lady in Red she was for sure, as Zooey Deschanel looked a delectable sight in a red Oscar de le Renta number at 2012 Critics’ Choice Television Awards. Although she tied with actress Amy Poehler for the ‘best actress in a comedy’ gong for her super hit series, New Girl, she was the true winner when it came to taking the prize for sartorial splendour! Looking resplendent in red, Zooey opted for an Oscar de la Renta Resort 2013 floral applique dress, and completed her look with classic Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalle’ pumps and a red clutch. Dewy makeup, a red lip and side swept curls paired with Zooey’s signature, slight centre-parted bangs set off her look perfectly. A no brainer for this week’s BDOTW!
