Match or Clash: Choosing a Color Palette for Your Outfit and Accessories

While we all love the idea of a color-coordinated capsule closet that follows the perfect palette with no compromise, we all love colors outside of our chosen palette and we should be able to easily embrace them! Because we all have color preferences that fall outside of any given palette, we recommend that instead of creating a color-coordinated capsule closet, that you have fun and show off your fashion skills by learning how to integrate any color you’re loving on at the moment into any outfit by making per-outfit palettes around them. You may have just bought some colorful and cute sandals for women in anticipation of summer or you may have a pretty new green blouse for a garden party. But if you want to make sure that you do them justice and avoid a jarring clash of colors, we’re here to show you how it’s done! Categorizing Colors  Building your outfit on a category of colors will help guide you through your closet and will be the best way to avoid a clash. Always consider starting off with a category that covers a wide range of colors like cool tones, warm tones, jewel tones, pastels or brights! Once you’ve found a compelling category, picking specific colors and shades within it will depend on what you’re dressing for and sometimes even where or what they will be used for within the ensemble. (For instance, as a base color or as an accent color — but we’ll get into that next!) No matter what, picking your palette should be easier after this step! Pick the Base Color(s) of Your Outfit Your base colors will normally be neutrals, and will normally coincide with the colors that you choose when you’re buying essentials. These are colors that transcend trends, seasons and time […]

Getting Married? Here Are the Must-Have Dresses for Every Event

Are you getting married? The gleeful anticipation of your upcoming nuptials is celebrated in many ways. From engagement parties and bridal showers to the big day, every bride needs to look her best in every moment. While the gown gets a lot of attention, it’s far from the only piece of bridal fashion you’ll be shopping for. Here are some tips for finding the perfect dresses for every bridal event. The Engagement Party Your first foray into wedding celebrations will begin the moment he pops the question. Traditionally, weddings are planned over many months or even a couple of years. An engagement party allows the couple to celebrate their big news now and officially kick off the wedding planning phase of the event. These parties also serve as an ice breaker to introduce the two families. Waiting until the wedding day to make important introductions can cause some ruffled feathers and undue stress on the newlywed couple. It’s best to start these introductions early so that everyone can come together and celebrate happily on the big day. The engagement party is typically a cocktail party, giving the bride-to-be full permission to wear a fun and flirty dress with an above-the-knee cut. We recommend avoiding anything overtly sexy, seductive, or revealing. You want to make a great first impression on extended family members that you’ll be meeting for the first time. And you want to send a clear message that you are committed to your soon-to-be husband.  For the perfect engagement party dress, stick with something semi-formal that shows off your personality. And then, dress it up with a little fun by choosing a fun color or a little sparkle. An A-line cocktail dress that has a little twirl in the skirt can be the perfect balance of modesty and fun. […]

Step Into a New Season in Style – Top Footwear Styles to Shop this Spring

Are you ready for bold colors, cute sandals, and sky-high platforms? It’s time to trade in those heavy winter boots for something light, fun, and colorful this spring. So let’s dive in and see what’s trending this season.  Dopamine dressing – a new trend only for the brave  It goes without saying that black is a classy color with which you simply can not go wrong. Usually, whatever you are wearing, black shoes – the right style of course – will go with it. However, a new trend that is gaining mainstream popularity is the one called ‘dopamine dressing’. As the name suggests, it’s exciting, bold, and takes some guts to pull off. In a nutshell, it refers to colorful footwear (from red and orange to cooler hues, like green and steel blue) that serves to uniquely complement your outfit and accessories. In other words, it brings out the colors you’re wearing – and, needless to say, draws attention. An example would be pairing a neon outfit with mauve pumps. This is the type of trend that top names like Versace and Stella McCartney couldn’t wait to embrace this spring. So if you’re willing to try something fresh and bold this spring, this is just the thing for you.   Breaking the rules with sporty sandals  “The athleisure trend lives on and sporty sandals are set to be popular this Spring, as seen across the Spring/Summer catwalks of Hermes and Chloe, notes Katie Eastwood, the Style Ambassador at Stitch Fix UK. Chunky soles are back, which might remind you of the 80s and 90s. What makes them extra special, however is that they are combined with comfortable neoprene fabric and velcro straps, which makes them extremely pleasant to wear. “These sandals epitomize our want for both style and comfort”, adds Eastwood. How to wear a halter dress

A trend that has been popular amongst the crowd for decades and never gets old is the stunning halter dresses. There are different ways of carrying your versatile halter dress, and you can tweak it for your ease and style preference. You can tie its straps at the back of your neck in great ways, including bows. They are the perfect style statement when you require something elegant or for a fun, relaxed look. To make these dresses look elegant and eye-catching, you need to follow some basic rules and rituals to carry this timeless piece.  Go for the less is a more approach  Your halter dress has to be the center of attention because of its unique fit, style, and cuts. It is vital to overpower the look with heavy jewelry pieces because they drive all the attention away from the dress. Try to pair your dress with minimal jewelry that will help elevate your look by giving it the perfect finish instead of overwhelming it. The ideal jewelry would be a small pendant or simple studs. Regardless of the color or style, make sure you opt for smaller jewelry pieces to prevent overload. If you feel your dress needs a touch of extra jewelry, instead of going for bold pieces on the neck, try to pull of layered bracelets. These perfectly compliment halter dresses and help show off your brilliant collar bones to the crowd.  Select your Footwear wisely  Try to experiment with different types of heels instead of flats or flip-flops. It’s a common myth that people need to wear high heels to pull off the look. A person can look equally stunning with kitten heels and wedges, as long as they don’t overwhelm the entire look. Heels with shimmer or beading add the extra touch of […]

How to Create a Capsule Wardrobe?

When you look in your closet, do you see hundreds of items but nothing that strikes you? Are you sometimes stuck jamming pieces together that you don’t really like, just to have something to wear? Do you spend what feels like hours rooting through your closet in search of the one thing you want? Capsule wardrobes can be the perfect way to solve these closet problems. A capsule wardrobe is a seasonal selection of favorite clothes that can be worn together in many different combinations. For a no-hassle outfit, all you need to do is mix and match the contents of your capsule. From basic tops to killer dresses, a capsule wardrobe allows you to have it all by having just enough.  A capsule wardrobe can revolutionize your closet through the virtues of simplicity and thriftiness. Here’s a simple 8-step plan to begin your capsule wardrobe project.  1. Clear out your closet.  First, take everything out of your closet. You’re not getting rid of it all, you’re just cutting down what actually lives in your closet to a more manageable selection. Some of it may go back in if it becomes part of your capsule. As for the rest, store it if you can’t bear to part with it or sell/donate it if you can.  2. Choose a base color.  Generally, your base color will be either black or navy. You can use both, but you should generally avoid wearing them together. A good capsule wardrobe is all about maximizing your number of outfit combinations.  3. Grab some neutral color basics.  Next, you’re going to need some flexible, neutral basics that can tie a lot of different outfits together. Many of these will be black or navy, depending on which you picked in the last step. The rest will be […]

The Ugly Truth About Your Favourite Shoes Revealed

Who doesn’t like getting dressed up in a nice outfit and putting on a pair of fancy shoes for a night out on the town? We’d love to finally pull out our fave heels from the back of the closet to go to a nice dinner or a night of dancing. However, it could be these shoes that are actually leaving long-term damage to our bodies.  As young women, we rarely think about the consequences of what we are doing. How will that decision affect us 40 years from now? Here’s exactly how your favorite shoes could be damaging your body so you can have a brighter, pain-free future.  Stiletto Heels Oh, the sexy stiletto heel! Every girl has a pair of these hidden in her closet somewhere, dreaming of the day she can walk confidently in them. While these shoes make your legs look amazing, they can leave quite the impression on your body.  Stilettos are known to cause osteoarthritis in your knees, back problems, and damage to the Achilles tendon from the shift of your weight while standing and walking.  Flats Who would have thought your adorable ballet flats could leave you with long-term damage? Unfortunately, this happens to be the case for many people. They believe since they aren’t wearing heels that they are avoiding any damage to their feet.  Flats can actually take a huge toll on your feet. In the short-term, they can cause blisters, corns, and calluses from the friction, especially if your feet tend to sweat. In the long-term, you could end up with flat feet due to lack of arch support.  Pointed Toed Shoes The pointed toed shoe is seen as sleek and sophisticated, especially when paired with a heel. Many women opt for this shape when going to work at the […]

Contemporary Spring Essentials To Complete Your New Season Wardrobe

To think that in just less than 2 weeks we’ll be in March, is just mind-boggling. It literally feels as if it was Jan 1st just yesterday. Between the drama of Brexit and the overall chaos in British politics in general, there’s just been way too much going on to even consider the rate at which time is flying by. It’s safe to say, before we know it, we’ll be knee-deep in summer, parading around in t-shirts and shorts preferably on the beach, and ideally with a Brexit deal in place. In the meantime we have other important matters to think about such as our spring wardrobe. Yep, for the best in escapism you can’t beat planning your wardrobe for the season ahead. So, here we highlight our top essentials for spring. A versatile staple, the feminine silk shirt is the perfect am to pm piece. The Best Baby Shoe Styles For 2019

There might not be anything in the world as cute as baby shoes. Teeny-tiny varieties of your favorite footwear are enough to make any heart melt. Like kid and adult fashion, styles for baby shoes change through the years, so if you want your baby to look fly, you need to stay ahead of next season’s looks. Here is a peak at what’s likely to come in style in 2019, so you can invest early in upcoming looks. First, a Message About Baby Shoes As heart-breakingly cute as it is to see your infant dressed up like an adult — fresh kicks and all — you should be careful how often you strap shoes to your little one’s feet. Studies on footwear and babies show that too much time spent in shoes is bad for your kid’s development. There are several reasons for this: The feet are covered in 200,000 nerve endings. This makes your baby’s feet critical sensory organs for detecting and understanding the world around them. By covering up your baby’s feet in shoes, you are limiting the amount of information they can receive — the temperatures and textures they feel, etc. — and thus hampering their ability to perceive their environment and learn from it. Baby’s bones remain soft for several months. You likely know that your baby’s skull is soft for a while after birth, but the truth is that all their bones will remain pliable for up to a year and a half. By shoving your baby into shoes, you could be forcing their foot bones to align and grow improperly, impacting their ability to stand, move and fit into footwear for the rest of their life. Footwear can decrease coordination, especially at early stages of development. Because shoes are broader and stiffer than bare […]

Admittedly however, dressing for a summer, as opposed to a winter wedding, is so much easier. Weddings in colder months not only limit wardrobe choices, but there’s also the additional hassle of finding suitable outerwear. Yep, the beauty of summer weddings is definitely the huge number of outfit choices on offer. But, if you’ve received a ton of wedding invitations this season, deciding what to wear can be a tad overwhelming. Here we highlight three failsafe wedding guest options not only guaranteed to turn heads but understated enough not to upstage the bride, which as we can all agree is a major fashion faux pas.  Bright colour always makes a statement. If you’re not too keen on green, consider canary yellow or fuchsia pink as an alternative. The beauty of a simple cocktail dress is in it’s ability to be easily recycled with accessories for a completely new look. Killer heels are a must for an air of sophistication. Accessorize with a stylish hat that suits your personality and add a designer womens watch to your outfit for an elegant touch.   If you intend to spend a large chunk of the evening on the dance floor, then the maxi-dress is a must. Why? Well, the length of the maxi-dress ensures comfy flats perfect for dancing the night away can be worn without being seen. Nail two big trends of the season with a cut-out, floral option (as seen in the picture above). Drop earrings are optional. O.K, so wearing white, is slightly controversial, however we’re of the belief that you can just about get away with a white jumpsuit especially if you’re a lucky enough to be invited to a destination wedding. With white being […]

Fresh Ways To Style The Classic Ankle Boot This Winter

For many of us, ankle boots are the ultimate winter footwear staple. They go with just about everything and can be dressed up or down with very little effort. Pair with jeans and an oversized coat for a casual daytime look, or team with a classic LBD to put a fresh twist on evening wear for the winter. There are countless ways to work this comfortable, statement piece into just about any outfit combination. A winter-appropriate take on evening wear Eveningwear is perhaps one of the most difficult ways to work the ankle boot, but it can be done with the right styling. Take a leaf out of Alexa Chung and Jessica Stein’s books by using boots to add a tough element to an otherwise feminine outfit. The more fanciful the dress the better, as the boots help to give this girly ensemble a cool, edgy vibe that stands high above the rest of the fashion pack. This look is particularly workable if you’re a little taller, as ankle boots make a welcome change to skyscraper heels.  If you still want to add some extra height, simply choose a boot with a platform or a statement heel – the tortoiseshell heel boots from Tu are perfect for making a statement on a budget. One thing’s for sure, the extra protection and structure you get from an ankle boot is certain to make the finished look extra comfortable. Keep it cosy with slouchy jumpers and midi skirts Much like dresses, skirts don’t typically lend themselves to being paired with boots that cut off at the ankle. If you style this the right way, you’re on to a winner – it’s a fresh look that was seen everywhere this London Fashion Week. The trick to making this look work is all about […]

6 Trends We’ll Be Coveting This Season

The best thing about a new season? Well, that’s easy. For lovers of fashion, it is and will always be experimenting with exciting, hot off the catwalk trends. And here at My Fashion Life, we’re no exception. Granted there are some autumn/winter trends that we’ll never let go of  anytime soon- for example skinny jeans, knee high boots and biker jackets to name a few. But for the most part, we’re open to stepping out of our comfort zone and giving the latest trends a good go.  This season however, is slightly different to the rest. Unlike past years when fashion has moved so fast that the number of micro-trends would literally make your head spin, recent times has witnessed fashion slowing down , and as a result many of our favourite trends have transcended seasons . The great thing about this has meant we’ve really gotten a chance to get our teeth sunk in to a trend and make it our own, as well as finding wonderful new ways to adapt it, to the changing weather. Here’s the trends we’re loving for this season.. 60’s & 70’s chic We’ve always loved both the 60’s and 70’s when it comes to style, and designers appear to feel the same way with the reappearance of many 60’s and 70’s iconic pieces making a comeback to the catwalks. The era that gave birth to style icons Twiggy and Bianca Jagger are here to stay. Stock up on vintage pieces such as flares, rock t-shirts, faux-fur coats and any other of your favourite pieces from that time of year. For some great finds, head to Sherrys London. We especially love their collection of colourful shift dresses. Prints From tweed to stripes to animal prints and polka dots on bags, trousers, tops, you name it, prints of any […]

Buying a property is a huge decision. Not only does it demand lots of planning and organisation, but there is also a huge amount of emotional investment too. For example, there’s nothing – nothing – quite as disappointing as falling in love with a property only to discover you can’t really afford it, or that it’s not in the right area for you!   One way to avoid disappointment is to first save your time and energy looking at the wrong location, by narrowing down your search area before you start attending viewings. Here are a handful of hotspots that you should consider investing in, if you’re on the hunt of the the new build of your dreams… Manchester Trafford is the third most populated region in Britain outside of London and the South East, and it’s here that agents predict house prices will rise the quickest. So, if you’re looking for new homes for sale in the the North West of England, check out what’s available in and around Greater Manchester – Manchester is famed for its music and amazing nightlife, as well as the endless shopping at the Trafford Centre! How To Make The Right Fashion Choices For Your First Date

You’re a glamour puss, a thriving fashionista, a towering figure of couture quality – but you still can’t think of what to wear on your first date. It’s a problem we’ve all faced, that nail-biting dilemma of which dress to choose, which heels will match, and which clutch bag will tie the entire outfit together. What’s more, you’re not even sure what kind of date you’re supposed to be going on. Is this a casual meet-up, the kind where you grab a cup of coffee and a cake, or is it the whole shebang, where you’ll head to a classy restaurant and maybe nip back to theirs for a ‘coffee’ afterwards? It’s impossible to tell, especially in the era of Tinder and Netflix and chill, where ‘meeting up’ could be synonymous with ‘hooking up’ or ‘a romantic dinner for two’. Now now, calm yourself down and take a deep breath. You can get through this. Just chill out and look at our fashion tips. You’ll be ready to meet your new potential beau in no time. Dresses reduce stresses Floral dresses are always a safe option as they’re extremely versatile. You could comfortably sit in a coffee shop wearing a floral midi dress – but they could also see you through to an impromptu dinner date at a classy restaurant, or even a trip to the opera. The floral dress should be a staple of your dating attire, especially if you’re not too sure what format your date will take. It’s the even hand of dresses, the Jeremy Corbyn of dresses, unlikely to rock the boat.  The safe haven of a bag An effective bag is vital on a first date, preferably one that can fit all your most valued cosmetics. If you end up in a kitsch nightclub, it’s […]

Victoria Beckham “Can’t Do Heels”. Can It Be True?

…it appears so. Famed for stating, “I can’t concentrate in heels”, it seems stilettos are no longer practical for Victoria’s lifestyle. Speaking to the Telegraph, at the unveiling of her second line Victoria, Victoria Beckham during London Fashion Week, the mum of four said, “I just can’t do heels any more. At least not when I’m working. I travel a lot. Clothes have to be simple and comfortable.” There was a time when the designer was never seen in anything other than killer heels, but of recent she’s been spotted in either trainers, brogues or loafers, so her admission comes as no surprise. But, she hasn’t hung up her heels just yet….only when she’s working *sigh of relief*…..And if recent reports of an upcoming shoe line prove to be true, expect lot’s of stylish flats!

Fashion niggles fixed with #nigglefix campaign!

Life is full of fashion niggles. Whether it’s owning the most beautiful pair of heels that can’t physically be worn by any human being because they hurt too much or having to change from comfy flats to devil heels round the corner from work every morning or buying a fabulous clutch before realising everything you own is too big for it – there’s always something that gets our fashionista blood boiling. A common niggle amongst women worldwide is the way each shop has their own unique sizing system. An 8 in one shop can be a 12 in another and then a 6 somewhere else entirely. If the shops can’t even decide on clothing sizes then how are you ever supposed to find something that fits? Perhaps the biggest fashion niggle of all time is an ill-fitting bra. Underwire bras are a killer, but the alternative is an old fashioned, unstylish bra that resembles your granny’s undies – hardly the sort of thing to make you feel comfortable, confident or sexy. Fortunately, a lingerie company called Triumph has found a fix to this last wardrobe malfunction – after all, life is challenging enough without little niggles getting in the way. As you’ll see from this video (which also highlights the high-heel hop we mentioned earlier) the secret is finding a fix for your niggle. And when it comes to ill-fitting bras that fix is the Magic Wire bra. The Magic Wire bra replaces the traditional underwire with a clever piece of silicone that gives full support with full comfort. So the good news is that there will no longer be subtle bra shuffling to find some relief or bruised ribs from stabbing underwire – niggles everyone could do without! This easy to wear, comfortable bra actually looks good as well […]

Last-Minute Summer Must Haves

If you’re looking to keep up with the trends this summer, there are a few essential items you’ll need to invest in. If you’re ready for a bit of retail therapy then look no further. From water resistant concealer to slip on flats; below you’ll discover the most important products you need to have this season. Slip on flats As the temperatures soar, your feet are one of the main parts of the body to suffer. Therefore you’ll need to invest in light, comfortable shoes. Slip on flats have proven to be a big hit on the catwalks this season. There’s a wide variety of styles on offer including wild prints and dazzling metallic options. Boyfriend Jeans According to You Look Fab, one of the must haves of the season is boyfriend style jeans. If you tend to have quite narrow thighs and hips, you can get away with choosing cropped varieties. These will help to keep your legs extra cool in the hot weather. Knitwear This may surprise you. After all, who wears knitwear in summer? Well, it turns out quite a lot of people will be doing so this season. Think light cardigans and thin jumpers. The UK isn’t known for tropical weather. So there’s a high chance there will be a lot of cooler days. Light knitwear will help to keep you warm, while ensuring you look stylish this summer. Waterproof make-up If there’s one thing every woman should invest in throughout the hot summer months, it’s waterproof make-up. As the temperatures soar, it can cause a rather unflattering look as your make-up starts to run down your face. Waterproof concealer, foundation and mascara are a must. Skin perfector Investing in waterproof make-up is one thing, but you also need to ensure you’re applying it onto even, […]

Our top 5 Toms picks you need right now!

Fashion becomes even more fun when it’s not just about indulging – something the Toms brand can attest to. Founded in 2006 by American traveller Blake Mycoskie after befriending Argentinian children who had no shoes to wear, Toms introduced the One for One scheme; for every pair of Toms purchased, MyCoskie’s company produces a pair of new shoes for a child in need. After realizing the One for One model of giving could benefit those in need in other ways, Toms Eyewear was introduced. With every pair of sunglasses purchased, TOMS helps give sight to a person in need. And so far, Toms has given over 10 million pairs of shoes to children in need, in  over 60 countries, and restored the sight of over 150,000 people through purchases of Toms Eyewear since 2011. The latest addition to the One for One initiative is Toms Roasting Co; with every bag of coffee purchased, TOMS will provide one week of clean water to a person in need. Although the company is most famous for its classic slip-ons in a dizzying variety of colours and designs, Toms has branched out into other footwear styles. Everything from wedge boots to ballet flats are now part of the line-up, and all serve the same purpose as the original design. So, to celebrate the fantastic efforts of MyCoskie’s style-with-a-conscience approach to the industry, we’ve rounded up our top five Toms picks below. Go on, get clicking and do your bit! Our top five Toms picks 1. Multi burlap classics, £39.99 2. Moroccan cut-out desert wedges, £79.99 3. Woven vegan Correa sandals, £34.99 4. Zebra zag strappy wedge sandal, £59.99 5. Male Shoes Work For Us Females Too!

Fashion has always been a safe place for experimenting with gender roles and last season proved no different. Borrowing from the boys, androgyny was a prominent fixture on the catwalks, with Stella McCartney, Dior and Vanessa Bruno teaming traditional masculine tailoring, large overcoats and statement sweaters with a few feminine flounces to brilliant effect. And it looks like these playfully androgynous trends are here to stay for 2014. Particularly in the shoe department it seems. Men’s brogues began in Ireland and Scotland in the 19th century as the shoes of labourers, punched with holes that would allow river water to escape. Yet somehow the charmingly decorated footwear has found its way into the hearts of women everywhere. Generally affordable, they have definitely asserted themselves as a new must-have in every girl’s wardrobe. You can pick up a bargain pair for as little as £12 if you click here. But just how did it come to be that such masculine “granddad shoes” are a new staple in women’s fashion? Brogues began appearing increasingly on celebrity fashion idols, such as Sienna Miller and Maggie Gyllenhaal, and are declared in fashion magazines as the new durable ballerina flat. And this is perhaps the key to their magic. Previously women’s footwear has very much been dominated by the flimsy, water-leaking flats or sky-high, ankle breaking heels. And the brogues offer a much comfier equivalent. A surge of bunions and hammertoes can perhaps be at the root of the Brogue’s rise to fame. Research at Iowa State University in 2013 showed that higher heels put women at greater risk of knee osteoarthritis and joint degeneration. While a 2009 study found 87 per cent of American women suffer because of painful footwear, while only 68 per cent of men claim this. Therefore it is easy to […]

Lindsay Lohan’s back in the last chance saloon. Oh, how familiar those words are. Post DUIs, car accidents, jail time and yet another stint in rehab, she’s sobered up and seems to be staying clean for the moment. So, what better way to show us this than with a new reality television show documenting her struggles? Teaming up with Oprah, the star most commonly referred to as ‘troubled’ let us in to her world and her attempts to restart her failing career, with the help of a film crew following her every step of the way. Of course the big question that was on everyone’s mind was: what will she be wearing? The Clothes Despite battling with drugs and alcohol and courting tabloid controversy on a regular basis, Lindsay’s style has always been one to keep an eye on. Her outfits are usually splashed across the fashion pages – as well as her mug shot… But let’s focus on the fashion now – both in the good and the bad. Now that she’s cleaned herself up, that’s going to be more the case than ever. Lindsay’s style is the perfect combination of high fashion and wearable fashion, sporting styles that are easy to emulate and find on the high street. For being one who likes the excess in her life, her style is not really as over-the-top as you would think. Most of the time, it’s pretty laid back and casual, but always very chic and glamorous. Let’s have a retrospective look at her style and see how we can replicate it with high street clothes! Lindsay loves to wear the so-called “boyfriend” clothes, be it an oversize tank top or a pair of jeans with a masculine cut. In this case, she goes for a very classy and trendy […]

Pura López Dunia mules: Yay or Nay

From sexed-up slit detail versions at Altuzarra, to bejewelled heels at Tibi; the once brushed-off-as-ugly mule is back with a shoe ousting vengeance for spring/summer ‘14. Considering runway heavyweights have given their nod of approval; expect to be slipping into a pair at some point this summer. And, to take the edge off the task of securing the perfect pair, we’ve only gone and done the leg work (pun intended). Sneaking their way into our new season wardrobe are the Dunia mules by Spanish shoe designer, Pura López (£170). Featuring a super-high, spindly heel and crafted in super-soft suede; these black beauties boast look-at-me perforated detail and promise to pretty much work with everything in your wardrobe. But, a trend being what some may call a ‘passing fad’ comes with pros and cons, so, below is a little pre-purchase inspo to help get you in (or out) of these sky-high stunners. You’re welcome  Yay Classic colour: You can’t beat the transitional appeal of a black heel. Ever. Day-to-night shoe: Pair with smart tailoring for day, before slipping over a pencil skirt and silk cami for night. Shoe stash under work desk, be gone! Great price: At £170, the Dunia mules promise not to leave you financially crippled, but fashionably oh-so-in-the-know. Win-win!  Nay Trend-centric: Did someone say ‘passing fad?’ Well, given it was one of the biggest shoe trends to roll off the runway – having done the rounds on the fashion month street style circuit, too – don’t expect the hype to die down anytime soon. Suede: As much as we love a sexy shoe in buttery soft suede, the prospect of puddle-hopping (we’re talking about Blighty, after all) in our beloved suedes leaves us feeling soggy-footed and, well, just plain unhappy. Somewhat impractical: We totally get the practical benefits of […]

Olivia Palermo gets it right in Reiss peacoat for Anya Hindmarch show

Here she is – one of our fashion week front row faves (try saying that really fast – not possible!) Olivia Palermo looking nothing short of fabulous at her latest show. Olivia rocked up to the Anya Hindmarch autumn/winter 2014 show at the Tate Modern during London Fashion Week, wearing a Reiss Romoli peacoat, cropped red trousers, and bejeweled slippers. Yep, it looks like Olivia decided to give her feet a well-deserved break and ditch the heels in favour of something far more comfortable – jewel encrusted Arabian Nights inspired slipper shoes! And it doesn’t look like she was alone in her sartorial choice either as her FROW pal Poppy Delevingne donned cute Burberry flats for the show which you can see in the background. Oh, and we also feel we should mention the fact that Olivia did what any adoring fashion fan would do when graving a front row and wore one of the designer’s pieces – she carried the Anya Hindmarch Albion bag with style and sophistication, and ensured it complemented the rest of her outfit perfectly. She’s a front row regular for a reason! [Image]

New York Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Jenny Packham, Vera Wang, Proenza Schouler & more

New York Fashion Week has well and truly got us geared up for London Fashion Week which kicks off tomorrow! The last of the shows – from Michael Kors to Oscar de la Renta to Jenny Packham, and more – certainly didn’t let us down, as we were met with everything from red carpet Oscar-worthy ensembles to essential winter cover-ups to all else in-between. Kate Middleton’s Jenny Packham look at the National Portrait Gallery was an exellent reminder of how wow-worthy the designer’s pieces can be – a thought which was only reiterated when we saw the autumn/winter 2014 collection float down the runway. Although the collection was reportedly inspired by Bianca Jagger, there were sartorial influences dating as far back as the 1930s in the collection; the glittering gold dress was a particular favourite of ours, and one which we predict might appear on an awards season red carpet this year. Vera Wang, who has dressed a number of our fave A-listers including the most recent celeb bride Kaley Cuoco who went against the grain and opted for a pink wedding down, went for romance – but not as we know it. Dark romance was the theme for the designer’s autumn/winter 2014 collection, with lots of black and charcoal coloured pieces making their debut on the Big Apple catwalk. There was also an abundance of tartan – a definite AW14 trend we need to look out for over the next few weeks! Although Blake Lively and Freida Pinto were among the famous faces who sat on the front row wearing some very feminine and floral Michael Kors spring/summer 2014 pieces, the designer’s latest collection had a hint of androgyny about it. Rich, luxe fabrics were juxtaposed with casual cool tailoring, offering us a very covetable autumn/winter collection that we’ll […]
