pureDKNY Fragrance Launch, London

Shamefully it took me until the morning after to realise the significance of the venue chosen for the launch of pureDKNY. Earlier this month members of the beauty press gathered at exclusive club Vanilla in London’s Fitzrovia to get a whiff DKNYs first new fragrance in five long years. Yes that’s five years. Brand extensions from the Be Delicious range may have come and gone, but this is the only new line added in all that time.

Abercrombie to sue Beyonce over planned fragrance

A few days ago we reported that Beyonce had made plans to collaborate with Coty to produce a new perfume named after her stage alter-ego Sasha Fierce. Unfortunately, it seems the songstress’ plans have already been scuppered as Abercrombie and Fitch have revealed their intention to sue, claiming that they have owned the ‘Fierce’ Trademark since 2002 with a men’s fragrance sold under the same name.

Beyonce succumbs to the celebrity fragrance

Jennifer Lopez, Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mariah Carey, Alex Curran. These ladies all have one thing in common, despite the fact that the mention of Alex Curran within this list of high profile celebs seems slightly wrong. Yes, they have all put their names to fragrances of course, and WWD have just revealed that Beyonce will be the next star to release her own scent. The popstar – who often refers to her stage alter ego, Sasha Fierce – teamed up with Coty, the company responsible for the celebrity fragrance launch that started the craze back in 2002: JLo’s Glow. While many assumed that the singer would follow in the footsteps of husband Jay-Z and sign a deal with Parlux Fragrances inc. Beyonce revealed that she didn’t rush into accepting a fragrance company to collaborate with: ‘For me, fragrance reflects a woman’s attitude and unique sense of style… while I love various perfumes, I haven’t found a scent that truly personifies me as a woman. Working with Coty I was able to turn my ideal fragrance into a reality by creating an alluring and sophisticated fragrance; one that’s refelective of my inner power.’ Beyonce’s timing however, is not the best, for NPD group have estimated that the average celebrity fragrance only generated around $2.5 million in 2008. Now, that definitely doesn’t sound like a profit to turn your nose up at but it is worth considering that sales have dropped dramatically since celebrity perfumes first hit the shelves. JLo must have been rubbing her hands in glee when Glow was launched, making $100 million worldwide in its first year! So. Another year, another celebrity fragrance. We love Beyonce, but we’re not sure what to make of this. We think we’ll reserve judgement until we can get a whiff… thoughts? Beyonce’s perfume is set […]

Is Diane Von Furstenberg’s new fragrance making NY residents ill?

Diane Von Furstenberg’s new perfume is reportedly making New York pedestrians feel unwell. The coveted designer – who recently launched her new scent D Eau de Parfum – has upset US residents by pumping the strong-scented fragrance from the air vents at her store in the city’s fashion-forward Meatpacking District. One woman told the New York Post newspaper: “I literally got dizzy from this. It is putrid, awful, something you’d find on a 60-year-old matron. “She has got some nerve wafting this out of her store. There is a point at which these peoples’ egos and chutzpah absolutely begin to take over any sense of reality or consideration for other people.”

Fragrances: It’s all in the scent!

So, I’m making a foray into new territory here—perfume! I don’t know about all of you ladies, but I’m never fully dressed until I have spritzed myself with scent. However, it’s tricky to describe perfumes as they change with everyone’s body chemistry and no one has yet figured out how to send smells over the internet (note to any technology proficient readers: this would be an excellent idea). My personal favourite is and always will be Acqua di Gio by Giorgio Armani. It’s very delicate, floral without being cloying, and has the slightest hint of musk (the Armani website says sandalwood too). The best part is, on a warm day the scent will “reactivate itself and you smell freshly spritzed all over again (plus my boyfriend loves it).

Hugo Fragrances presents “Human Nature”

It has to be tough for advertising companies to come up with a commercial that is memorable, enjoyable, and successfully sells a product, yet manages to fit in a 30 second spot on television. Faced with this, Hugo Fragrance is among the latest to turn to online video sites such as YouTube, where the time is virtually unlimited and they aren’t regulated by FDC decency standards. While the spot for their new scent, Hugo Human Nature (for XY and XX), doesn’t by any means stray into R-rated territory, there is plenty of innuendo. Perfume and cologne, after all, are all about being sexy and appealing to the gender of your choice.

15 Effective Habits Of Women Who Age Slowly (The Secrets To Aging Gracefully)

Aging is an inevitable part of life that no one can escape. However, some lucky women seem to defy the effects of time and manage to age gracefully and slowly. So why do some women seem to age so well compared to others? Genetics and skin type play a role, but lifestyle habits are a major factor that determines the rate at which women show visible signs of aging. Women who lead healthy lifestyles by adopting smart diet and exercise routines, managing stress, and taking preventative skincare measures tend to age beautifully. Their habits minimize factors that accelerate aging like sun damage, poor diet, lack of sleep and chronic stress. If you’re wondering how to age slowly like the graceful women who look radiant at every age, adopting some of these habits can help you maintain a youthful glow for years to come! 15 Habits Of Women Who Age Slowly 1. They Don’t Scowl or Furrow Their Brows This one sounds silly, but it can help! Limiting facial expressions like frowning or furrowing your brow can minimize formation of wrinkles and fine lines in those areas over time. If you notice yourself frowning or squinting frequently, address the root cause such as mood, eye strain or needing glasses. Botox injections can also “freeze” overactive wrinkle-causing muscles. 2. They Follow a Nutritious Diet Diet plays a huge role in the aging process. Women who look younger often stick to a diet rich in lean proteins, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. These foods provide antioxidants and nutrients that fight free radical damage and keep cells healthy. They also emphasize getting their daily dose of omega-3s from foods like salmon, walnuts and avocados to fight inflammation. Limiting processed foods, sugar, alcohol and caffeine can also help minimize glycation, which accelerates aging. 3. They […]

Enthralling Elixirs: Unveiling the Seductive Power of Perfumes

The history of perfume is as old as civilization itself. From the ancient Egyptians to the modern-day fashion runways, fragrances like seductive perfumes have played a pivotal role. In ancient times, they were integral to religious rituals and royal ceremonies, often considered a bridge to the divine. The Romans and Greeks furthered the art of perfumery, using scents in baths and during massages. Fast forward to the 19th century, and we see the birth of modern perfumery in France, where techniques to extract scents from flowers and create synthetic compounds were developed. The Alchemy of Scent Understanding the composition of perfumes is like unraveling a complex puzzle. A perfume typically consists of top, middle, and base notes. Top notes provide the initial scent impression, often light and volatile, like citrus or herbal scents. Middle notes, or heart notes, form the core of the perfume. Floral or fruity scents often occupy this layer. The base notes, emerging later, provide the lasting fragrance, with rich, deep scents like musk or vanilla. This trinity of notes works in harmony, creating a dynamic and evolving sensory experience. Scent and Psychology The psychological impact of perfume is profound. Scents have the power to evoke memories, influence moods, and even affect perception. A study in the journal of Psychological Science revealed that a person’s scent can influence how others perceive their personality. Perfumes can convey confidence, sophistication, or even seductiveness, subtly influencing social interactions.  Cultural Scentscape Cultures around the world have their unique fragrance preferences, influenced by societal norms, climate, and even history. In the Middle East, for example, rich, opulent scents with oud and musk are popular, reflecting the region’s love for deep, lasting fragrances. Western preferences lean towards lighter, floral or citrus scents.  In a nutshell Perfumes are more than just fragrances; they are a form […]

Mastering The Runway Of Numbers

Accounting for the fashion industry is a complex and dynamic field, as it navigates the unique challenges and opportunities of this vibrant sector. The fashion industry, characterized by its creative nature, rapid product turnover, and global supply chains, requires specialized accounting approaches to ensure financial health and sustainability. Here will delve into the key aspects of accounting in the fashion industry, focusing on strategies for avoiding sales and profitability issues, and will provide relevant statistics and examples. Understanding the Fashion Industry Landscape The global fashion industry, estimated to be worth over $1.5 trillion, is driven by a fast-paced environment where trends change frequently. A McKinsey report highlights that fashion companies’ profitability can vary significantly, with the top 20% of companies contributing 128% of the industry’s total profit. This disparity indicates a high level of volatility and competition. Key Accounting Challenges in Fashion Inventory Management: Fashion brands face the challenge of managing inventory levels to meet changing consumer demands without overstocking, which can lead to markdowns and reduced profitability. For example, Zara, a leader in fast fashion, has optimized its Just-in-Time (JIT) inventory management using advanced analytics, reducing overstock. Cost Allocation: Proper cost allocation, including manufacturing, shipping, marketing, and overhead costs, is vital. Burberry’s strategic approach to cost allocation contributed to their operating profit margin of approximately 17.8% in 2020. Revenue Recognition: Recognizing revenue at the appropriate time is crucial, especially with varied sales channels like online, in-store, and wholesale. Prada, for instance, recognized a revenue increase of 24.8% in 2022 due to effective revenue recognition strategies across different sales channels. Accounting Strategies to Avoid Sales and Profitability Issues Accurate Demand Forecasting: Utilizing data analytics for predicting fashion trends and consumer demands can help in maintaining optimal stock levels. 10 Benefits Of Cruelty-Free Skincare For Aging Skin

As our skin changes with age, taking care of it becomes more important.  Using the right skincare can nourish mature skin and help minimize wrinkles, dryness and loss of firmness.  Lately, many people have started seeking out cruelty-free skincare options which avoid animal testing. The great news is cruelty-free products are just as effective for fighting signs of aging. In fact, they offer many benefits for mature skin.  Cruelty-free ingredients like plant oils, antioxidants and humectants can hydrate aging skin, protect against environmental damage, and restore a more youthful glow.  And you don’t have to worry about harsh chemicals since cruelty-free brands use natural formulas.  Here, we’ll go into more detail into the benefits of using cruelty-free skincare as you get older. Why Cruelty-Free Skincare Is Better for Aging Skin 1. Nourishes Skin with Key Nutrients Cruelty-free skincare products use high-quality plant oils, butters, and extracts that provide important nutrients to nourish aging skin. Ingredients like jojoba, almond oil, shea butter, aloe, and green tea are packed with fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that skin needs. These replenishing ingredients soak into the skin to condition, smooth, and improve tone and texture. Brands like Bareminerals use plant butters and oils that make their creams and serums feel downright indulgent on your skin. 2. Protects Against Environmental Damage Cruelty-free formulas are loaded with antioxidants from botanical sources that help protect mature skin from environmental pollutants and free radicals. Exposure to UV rays, smoke, and pollution creates free radicals that break down collagen and accelerate aging. Antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E, CoQ10, astaxanthin, and polyphenols neutralize these free radicals before they can cause damage. 3. Boosts Hydration for Supple Skin Dryness is a common complaint as we age. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, aloe vera, plant oils, ceramides, and dimethicone help […]

Why Your Favorite Perfume Smells Different On Your Bestie

You know how when you spritz on your fave floral fragrance, you’re obsessed with how mouthwatering you smell?  But then when your BFF borrows a spritz, she’s all, “Meh, it’s just alright.” Girl, you’re not crazy—your signature scent really does smell different on her! That’s ’cause there’s a whole science behind why the exact same perfume smells like a summer garden on you, but is kinda blah on your bestie.  And you won’t believe the wild reasons that make your favorite fragrance transform into something utterly unique on everyone who wears it. Your Unique Body Chemistry Makes Scents Smell Different Here’s the tea: Your one-of-a-kind body chemistry is why your fave perfume smells like a breath of fresh air on you, but is kind of basic on your bestie.  See, your body’s pH, natural oils, and hormones mix with the perfume notes, changing how they smell.  So while the fancy French perfume itself smells the same in the bottle, it mingles with your body in a way that makes it totally your own. Your bestie’s body chemistry remixes the scent differently. So on her, your floral fragrance might go from a sexy, musky vanilla on you to something more clean and soapy on her.  It’s like your body actually customizes the perfume just for you! Your Cologne-Loving Man Also Alters Your Signature Scent Now, you can’t forget about your bae’s role in your signature scent. Say your man loves his musky colognes.  Well, those heavier manly scents you snuggle up to every day can actually cling to your hair and clothes.  So when you spritz on your favorite perfume, it mingles with traces of his cologne, altering the scent. What does that mean for you? Your perfume takes on a more sensual, musky depth from his lingering cologne.  So that […]
