Steal Vs Splurge: Topshop or YSL?

High street fashion has done it again, using designer duds as inspiration for their own more affordable, yet no less fashion-forward, lines. This time our beloved Topshop has created the Splatter Top - their own version of the Yves St Laurent Paint Splattered Tank. Although my budget dictates that I nearly always go High Street instead of high-end, in this case if money were of no concern I’d opt for the latter.

The YSL piece has a better colour balance with its mixture of yellow, blue, red and purple, and splatters understated enough to make this top office-appropriate.

One part country, one part rock and roll!

Shirt dresses are super comfortable and tend to help give off that empowering, “I just rolled out of bed, threw on my boyfriend’s shirt and still look fabulous” type of chic.

Rest assured though, you won’t be baling hay or chopping wood side-by-side with your man in this knee-length cowgirl plaid dress. Instead, throw on a great woven belt and your favourite pair of slouchy leather boots to bring out the grungy glam in you.

For a casual daytime look, go with the orange & blue plaid. For an edgier night time vibe, opt for the blue & black version and hit the town in true rock-chick style. $48 available at Urban Outfitters.

Dita Von Teese, Claudia Schiffer and Victoria Beckham did their best to add a wow factor to Roland Mouret’s presentation in Paris this week. But no matter how much they posed and pouted, nothing could distract us from fantasising over their shoes. Oh, the shoes!!!

Pretty florals for Spring. Predictable, right? Not, so much. For Spring ’08, designers such as Balenciaga, Prada and Stella McCartney have taken an otherwise obvious trend and pushed it to new limits. Oversized flowery prints in bright and startling colors, molded and cut into interesting shapes make this coming season’s floral pieces anything less than mundane.

Especially during the winter. When you’re all bundled up from head to toe, your accessories need to do the talking for you, whether it be a great bag, a fancy pair of boots, or a pair of killer shades. Lucky for us, American Apparel stocks a collection of Vintage eyewear that is stylish, unique and, yes, affordable.

We love these shaded lenses from the line. They’ve got that whole librarian-goes-glam vibe and a light tint to shield our peepers from harmful UV rays while letting attractive passerbys get a glimpse of our lovely lashes. $60 available online at American Apparel

January may be one of the worst months of the year in the Northern hemisphere; the cold weather and overcast skies get to even the sunniest of dispositions and fill us with the desire to spend the rest of winter wrapped in a duvet.

But sadly things like uh… jobs or school usually prevent us from having that luxury…except on the weekends of course. But a cure for the winter doldrums lies in a cute outfit!

It’s easy to dismiss models as a pretty face and nothing more. Their job is to look good. And though Tyra may try to convince the general public that good models have an A+ personality to go along with their A+ looks, it’s easy to forget when faced with Daria’s striking cheekbones, Jessica’s stunning eyes and Chanel Iman’s perfect lips peering up at you from the pages of magazines.

There are days when high heels simply are not an option. Whether you’ve been out dancing the night before or have a busy day of running around to do, your feet ache at the mere mention of heels (no matter how pretty they may be). But, this doesn’t mean that you don’t want to look fashion-forward!

Fortunately, Giuseppe Zanotti has a lovely pair of ballerinas that are cute and comfy. Made of luxurious pink snakeskin, with an elasticized opening guaranteed NOT to chafe, you may want to shelve your heels more often. £250 available at Net-a-Porter.
