Like the rest of the world, I too was shocked and sad to hear the news about the sudden death of Michael Jackson yesterday.

I grew up listening to Michael’s timeless music and words cannot express how much the legend that is Jacko will be missed.

Michael was just as much an icon for the fashion industry as he was for music. If there’s anything we can learn from the King of Pop when it comes to personal style, it is to “be yourself”.

From his elaborate stage costumes to his eccentric day to day outfits, there’s no denying that Jacko had fun with fashion. Here are some of his trademark looks that we’ve come to know and love him for:

The stills - allegedly taken from her latest Marc Jacobs-directed advertisements - show the ‘Martial Girl’ singer wearing thigh-high boots and magenta bunny ears similar to those she sported for the recent MET Costume Institute Gala.

In the images, Madonna is reclining on a chair wearing a vivid pink and black puff-sleeved silk ruffled shirt with lacy fingerless gloves, clutching an oversized Louis Vuitton bag bearing the fashion house’s signature print.
The pictures - which were taken in New York in April by Steven Meisel - are rumoured to be accompanied by a video of the 50-year-old singer.

Steven shot the last set of pictures featuring Madonna after taking over from Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, who had worked on Louis Vuitton campaigns for six years.

Mary Quant thinks today’s clothes are carbon copies of her famous 60s designs.

The 75-year-old designer - who is said to have invented the miniskirt and hot pants - can’t believe how similar modern trends are to her retro creations.

She said: “Current style is terribly like the stuff I was working on. It’s great fun. I love that sort of look - the short skirts and the hot pants and the over-the-knee socks. Although I hate the effect the recession’s having because I like everything to be bouncing. But golly, it’s still looking great.”

The ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ singer is trying to stop buying clothes and accessories online because she is spending hundreds of pounds a month.

The 30-year-old star said: “Nowadays, I mainly buy online. I love Urban Outfitters and Net-a-Porter.com, but I think I need to start calming that down a bit. You go, ‘Wow, £400 for a dress!’ Then you get acclimatised and start thinking, ‘Hmm, £250, that’s not bad…’ But it’s still a lot of money.”

Wow. The London Fashion Week news is coming in thick and fast! Latest revelation: Clements Ribeiro are returning to show their S/S 10 collection after a four year break.

The husband and wife partnership - Inacio Ribeiro and Suzanne Clements - join the likes of Jonathan Saunders and Burberry who are coming back to London for it’s 25th year celebrations.

I for one, am a big fan of Clements Ribeiro, and can’t wait to see what their new collection - showing in the Portico Rooms of Somerset House - brings to London Fashion Week.

I have a feeling this is going to be a memorable season…

Giles Deacon is set to leave London Fashion Week in favour of Paris, to show his S/S 10 collection.

The British designer scooped a £136,932 (160,000 Euro) prize from the National Association for the Development of the Fashion Arts (ANDAM) which will allow him to develop his business in Paris. Previous winners of the prize include British designers Gareth Pugh and Richard Nicoll.

The news follows the revelations that British designers are this season flocking back to London to show their news collections. Burberry, Matthew Williamson, Jonathan Saunders and Pringle are all among those set to return.

So, it’s all change for this season’s LFW, and the news is bitter-sweet. We’re sorry to see you go Giles!
