Our 10 best dressed at the 2015 Grammy Awards

This year’s Grammys were eventful to say the least but not even Kanye could steal the spotlight from the ladies that ruled the red carpet. The biggest trend without a shadow of a doubt was a heavy dose of bling, glam and figure hugging dresses, but thankfully there were those who broke the rules and thought outside of the box. Naturally Rihanna rebelled and we’re so glad she did! Love or hate her outfit at least she gave us something different! Here’s our 10 best dressed celebs… Wearing one of our fave couture looks this season courtesy of Giambattista Valli, Rihanna was a delight in this show-stopping, pink strapless gown. Cue all the “cupcake” jokes….. Always one of our red carpet favourites, Chrissy Teigen failed to disappoint in this perfect white floor-length gown by Emilio Pucci. Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her gorgeous long legs in this Saint Laurent sparkly number paired with beautiful stilettos.   Custom made by Proenza Schouler, Beyoncé opted for a plunging v-neck gown to accentuate her bootylicious curves. Katharine McPhee’s first Grammy red carpet saw the singer looking lovely and demure in an Emilio Pucci coral cut-out evening gown with silver hardware. Deciding not to opt for a traditional dress, Gwen Stefani as usual was on trend in this edgy Atelier Versace strapless jumpsuit with netting detail. Yes, yes and yes! Elie Saab is to thank for this ADORABLE combination of evening gown meets party dress complimented perfectly with Giuseppe Zanotti heels and modelled to perfection on Taylor Swift.   Rocking none other than Tom Ford, Nicki Minaj was nothing short of stunning. Classic, understated and absolutely gorge. We’ve been loving Versace’s red carpet gowns of late and this beauty on Ariana Grande is no exception. With chainmail detail and cut-outs in all the right place, Ariana gets a thumbs up […]

The Cape: Fashion’s symbol of female empowerment

There’s no denying that 2014 will be remembered as the year of “girl power”. Victoria Beckham was named Britain’s most successful entrepreneur, Beyonce’s been nominated for 5 Grammy’s and this year saw Malala Yousafzai become the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate. The Spice Girls must be proud! So what better trend to end the year with than the ultimate fashion symbol of female empowerment – the cape. Is it just us or do you immediately picture Superwoman when you see the cape too? The cape stole the show at Solange’s wedding, Angelina Jolie gave the fashion item her seal of approval in a Saint Laurent velvet cape last week and Kylie wore a casual cape by FAY while out and about in London over the weekend. There’s a ton of caped options available at the moment and we love this collarless cape blazer courtesy of Lavish Alice. Pair with matching trousers and killer heels for an alternative to the party dress. Lavish Alice Collarless Cape Blazer, £54 available at ASOS.

How to get flawless legs for the party season

It’s hard not to envy the celebrities you see walking the red carpet with perfect pins. After all, nothing makes a short dress or a thigh-split design look better than a pair of flawless legs. Beyoncé shows off her toned thighs in sparkly leotards at her shows, while Taylor Swift’s legs just seem to go on and on. On this side of the Pond, a recent survey of British women named model Abbey Clancy as having the best legs in showbiz. The survey by Veet, however, also found women were reluctant to show off their own legs. But, it is possible to transform your legs into two of your best assets. EXERCISE AND DIET Country music singer Carrie Underwood’s personal trainer Tony Greco suggests a combination of lunges, squats, step-ups and toe-taps, combined with a healthy diet of proteins, carbs and fats. He also says having a handful of almonds, walnuts or macadamia nuts with every meal is a good idea because they can help you feel fuller for longer. Jessica Simpson’s legs had to look perfect in her Daisy Dukes in the movie Dukes of Hazard. Her personal trainer Harley Pasternak says she achieved those results with a lot of hard work. His tip is to do at least 30 minutes of cardio work five times a week, choosing exercises that are not only good for a healthy heart, but which work out your legs intensively at the same time, such as cycling, running, skating or climbing the stairs. Then, it’s time to tone up even further by doing some work with a stability ball. Lie down with your calves on top of the ball, rolling the ball towards your body with your heels while lifting your hips, then back again. CELLULITE While many women are conscious about cellulite, […]

Solange Knowles breaks all the rules and the internet at her New Orleans wedding

What better way to start the morning than with inspirational wedding pics? If you’re in the process of planning a wedding then you’re sure to be inspired by the creativity at Solange Knowles’ wedding to Alan Ferguson. The 28-year-old singer wed the 51-year-old video director in New Orleans yesterday in true “unconventional” Solange style. Trading in a limo, or for the more traditional…a horse and carriage, the bride and groom made their way to the church riding white-painted bicycles. Solange deserves major fashion points for pulling this off in a Stéphane Rolland ivory caped jumpsuit. Continuing with the caped theme Solange was the epitome of sophistication as she tied the knot in a Humberto Leon for Kenzo cape dress, Stuart Weitzman shoes and Jill for Lady Grey bracelets. And forget the smiling wedding portraits. Nope, instead the couple chose to take some very cool pictures inspired by Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft. And for the after party? The newly weds and guests (all dressed in white) partied the night away at the French Quarter. Of course, Solange changed outfits and danced the night away in another chic jumpsuit. On her fun and fabulous wedding the bride said, “Everyone I worked with on the wedding are friends who I love…..Everything was a labor of love.” [Images- Instagram & Daily Mail]

Kate Moss pays homage to Cara Delevingne for Halloween

We have to admit we really enjoyed costume watching this Halloween…..just one of the many reasons why we’re addicted to Instagram. Heidi Klum may be infamous for making the most effort with her costumes but this year a few of our beloved celebs gave Klum a run for her money. We have way too many favourites to mention……we “oooh and ahhhed” at Beyoncé and Blue Ivy as Janet and Michael Jackson, laughed a lot at Kim and North as Anna Wintour and André Leon Talley (we’d pay good money to find out the ice queen’s thoughts about this pic)…. ….and we love, love, loved the cuteness overload of seeing Penelope and North West as adorable skunks. But the award for best dressed and the focus of today’s celebrity style goes to the one and only Kate Moss who pulled of her buddy Cara Delevingne perfectly. From the hoodie to the skinny jeans, to her impressions. Kate nailed it. Poking fun at Cara, Moss accessorised her outfit with a dab of white powder carefully placed on her nose. A tad controversial or just a good laugh? Thoughts? [Images]

Sneak peek at Gisele for Chanel No.5

We told you a few months ago that one of the most iconic supermodels of our time would be posing for one of the most iconic fragrances in the world – a match made in heaven – and now we have a very sneaky peek of Gisele Bundchen for Chanel No.5 to share with you. How exciting! The Brazilian beauty treated her fans to a pic of her on the set of the ad campaign as she posted it to her Instagram account with the caption, “So excited to introduce a behind the scene picture of my next campaign for @chanelofficial. #chaneln5 #theonethatiwant”. Hawk-eyed readers may have noticed that the surfboard Gisele is carrying isn’t your ordinary surfboard, oh no. It is in actual fact Chanel’s very own surfboard – the very same one that Beyonce posed with for CR Fashion Book. It was going to take someone special to upstage Brad Pitt’s ad, but we think Gisele in surfer gear with beach waves in hair may very well do the trick. We can’t wait to see the ad campaign in full – we predict it’s going to be spectacular!

Kendall Jenner drops her last name

We told you just a few weeks ago that Kendall Jenner – daughter of Kris and Bruce Jenner and half-sister to Kourtney, Khloe and Kim Kardashian – thought her famous family hindered her modelling career. Well, instead of just banning sister Kim and the rest of the Kardashian/Jenner clan from her catwalk shows, she has now gone one step further to disassociate herself from them… and that’s by dropping her last name altogether. Yep, Kendall will now join the likes of the one-named-wonders like Beyonce, Cher and Rihanna, and be known as just “Kendall”. Interesting, no? Do you think this new name will catch on? We wonder what Kardashian/Jenner matriarch Kris Jenner had to say about this… no doubt we’ll see or hear some sort of reference to it on a new episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians soon. Louis Vuitton museum opening in Paris!

Do you like to head to the Louis Vuitton flagship on New Bond Street and just drool over all the stunning pieces of clothing and accessories? We aren’t ashamed to admit that we have done this on more than one occasion, so we are beyond-excited to reveal that a Louis Vuitton museum is on its way. That means you’re allowed and somewhat encouraged, even, to stand and stare at all the beautiful pieces of craftsmanship for as long as you want. Pretty cool, right? LVMH boss Bernard Arnault has enlisted the help of Canadian architect Frank Gehry to design the museum, and has even designed a limited edition Louis Vuitton handbag for the opening. The Foundation Louis Vuitton museum will be based just on the outskirts of Paris, and is due to open its doors later this year. October 26th, to be exact. The museum will exhibit the corporate art collection that is currently owned by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, as well as specially commissioned art attractions. The museum building also has an auditorium which means that some of our favourite musicians from Lady Gaga to Beyonce among many others could potentially sing their hearts out in. We can’t wait! Phones4U founder buys minority stake in Ralph & Russo

Worn by the likes of Angelina Jolie, Beyonce and the Duchess of Cambridge, Ralph & Russo has never been hotter! So, if you have a few million burning a hole in your pocket, why don’t you buy a stake in it? That’s exactly what Phones4U founder John Caudwell did! The British-born tycoon will lend both financial and business support to the label, although Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo will reportedly still have full control. “We really weren’t looking for investment at all. We’d been approached before and it wasn’t something we were courting, but this deal felt really right for us,” Michael Russo said. “John has great business experience and his investment will allow us to execute our expansion and growth strategy more quickly than we had planned. It’s a hugely exciting time.” We can’t wait to see what John Caudwell’s addition to the Ralph & Russo team will bring – watch this space! [Vogue] [Image]

Which fashion names made the Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women list?

A few weeks after the release of the Sunday Times Rich List comes the highly anticipated Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women list… and once again, some of fashion’s biggest names have made the cut. Vogue US Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour was the highest ranking fashion name coming in at a very respectable number 39 (two places higher than last year, we’ll have you know!) and it’s thought that her work on the Barack Obama re-election campaign and her continuous work with the newly re-named Anna Wintour Costume Center helped her promotion up the list. Gisele, i.e. the highest paid supermodel in the world according to Forbes, once again made the list – and she should feel extra privileged because she was actually the only model to make the list. We bet Naomi Campbell will have something to say about that… Spanx founder and sartorial saviour to women everywhere Sara Blakely came in at number 93, and former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts – who has now moved to Apple – secured position number 49. Designers such as Miuccia Prada, Diane von Furstenberg and Tory Burch have also made the list – no surprises there although we expected to see Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham in there too. Maybe next year, perhaps? Angelina Jolie and Shakira made the list for all their charitable efforts, as did Beyonce and Sofia Vergara. Click here to take a look at the list in all its glory, and find out who secured the very top spot. Go on, have a guess….

Kim weds Kanye in Givenchy!

It’s a wrap folks. Kimye have finally tied the knot and after much speculation, it looks like it was a Givenchy affair. Kim opted on Givenchy by Ricardo Tisci for her big day and so did Kanye and baby North West too. Tying the knot in Florence the wedding was as extravagant as ever….sadly a number of guests declined to attend…. Anna Wintour, JayZ and Beyonce and Rob Kardashian all failed to make an appearance… Anna blamed family commitments. It’s speculated JayZ and Beyonce chose not to attend to avoid a run in with designer Rachel Roy and Rob ditched the wedding at the last minute due to a family spat. Of course, many did show up to celebrate with the couple. Guests included Andre Leon Talley, LaLa Anthony, The Pussycat Dolls Robin Antin, rapper Common and Chrissy Tiegen (who committed a fashion faux pas along with Kris Jenner). The highlight of the evening however was John Legend’s tribute to the duo Dedicating his hit All of me to the couple, in his speech Legend said, ‘Kim. He was so in to you before he was even with you. He is in love with you. I am so happy to see you two together.” All in all it looks as though it all went well without too many hitches.

Was designer Rachel Roy the cause of elevator gate? ?

We promise this will be the last time we mention elevator gate, but we think we might know what caused the infamous fight between Solange Knowles and Jay Z at the Met Gala a few weeks ago. Probably. It’s being reported that Jay Z was apparently getting too close to designer Rachel Roy, and Solange wasn’t happy about it… “Solange was defending Beyonce in the elevator because Solange finds Jay’s friendship with Rachel to be WAY too close for comfort and it makes Solange very uncomfortable,” a ‘source’ told Hollywood Life. “Beyonce also confronted Rachel and said, ‘Don’t talk to my sister like that,’ after Rachel confronted Solange.” Hmm. What do we think guys? Do we think that was the real reason of the fight? We guess we’ll never really know, but Beyonce, Jay Z and Solange want us all to forget about it as they have moved on from the incident, so they want us to do the same. “As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident,” reads a joint statement released today.  “But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it. Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologised to each other and we have moved forward as a united family. The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behaviour throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day, families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope […]

How is Anya Hindmarch cashing in on that Solange Knowles elevator fight?

Solange Knowles, Beyonce, and Jay Z might all want to forget the infamous elevator fight that happened at this year’s Met Gala, but not everyone feels the same way. Anya Hindmarch has decided to take a glass half full approach to the incident and cash in on the fight by letting everyone know that Beyonce’s little sis was in fact carrying an Anya Hindmarch clutch to the Met Gala. The popular crisp packet clutch to be more precise And how has it alerted us, you ask? By (probably) having a super-fast brainstorm marketing meeting and quickly releasing an ad for the clutch with the phrase “a clutch worth fighting for” accompanying it. This probably wouldn’t have been acceptable had the fight been more serious and someone had actually got hurt, but as the three involved seem to have patched things up now, we don’t think it’s too distasteful. We reckon it’s quite clever if we’re being honest… What do you guys think? Insensitive or genius? We’ll let you decide! [Daily Mail]

The Met Gala 2014: The best dressed!

All the big names in fashion, film, and music gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last night, for the highly anticipated Met Gala! This year, the museum was honouring Charles James, and the dress-code was a very simple (albeit slightly “boring” according to Marc Jacobs) “white tie and decorations”. Anyone familiar with the work of Charles James would know that elegant eveningwear was his thing, so they wouldn’t have gone wrong by donning the finest couture pieces with some elegant jewels. There were many ladies who absolutely nailed their looks, while some probably should have stayed home. Stella McCartney had a big moment on the red carpet, dressing the likes of Rihanna and Reese Witherspoon so flawlesslessly for the event, in two very different but equally stunning dresses. Rihanna went for her signature sexy look, while Reese was a vintage glamour goddess. Selena Gomez also wowed on the red carpet for us, looking very mature for just 21 years old in a bold deep purple Diane von Furstenberg dress. We also love how Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were reunited at the Met Gala – they both looked amazing in  their respective Gucci Premiere and Emilio Pucci dresses. Not all of the ladies went for full-length or ballgown dresses (like Hayden Panettiere who looked like a Princess!) though – Solange Knowles and Lena Dunham were just two of the stars who went for something a little bit shorter. The impact definitely wasn’t lost though. Here are our best dressed celebs from last night’s Met Gala. Let us know who gets your vote in the comments below. Victoria Beckham in Victoria Beckham Rihanna in Stella McCartney Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney Selena Gomez in Diane von Furstenberg Emma […]

Celebrities with Bad Legs: Who’s Done What?

While the term varicose veins may conjure up an image of an elderly lady in thick, ugly hose, this condition strikes almost half of all women—including celebrities. Those enlarged veins can be painful as well as unsightly, so it’s no surprise that famous women who want to look red-carpet perfect every day have undergone surgery to have them removed or minimized. According to press reports, 40-something “Sex and the City” star Kristin Davis opted to have varicose vein surgery after being displeased by the way her legs looked in the 2008 film based on the cable TV series. The NY Post claims that Davis slipped into Roosevelt hospital soon after the movie was released to have the look of her legs improved. Davis has not admitted to having the surgery, but her newly smooth, sleek legs tell the story. While most women suffering from vein problems severe enough to require surgery are over 40, the barely 30-year-old Britney Spears was reported to have undergone “keyhole surgery” in 2012 to get rid of those pesky veins. After all, a pop star that loves showing off her prize pins in short skirts and skimpy costumes like Spears does must have picture perfect legs! Unlike the celebrity ladies mentioned above, Emma Thompson has been very honest about her own problems with varicose veins. Back in 2006, the actress grew tired of hiding her unsightly, knotted veins beneath long skirts and pants, so she checked into a clinic to have them surgically removed. By September, Thompson was out on the red carpet, showing off her slim, shapely legs in a revealing Prada dress. She told the UK Daily Mail, “The dress is short and the legs are out on show. I had the varicose veins out this year and the scars are nearly healed, […]

Kim Kardashian’s Vogue cover on track to be top-seller!

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s American Vogue April cover was probably one of the most controversial in the magazine’s recent history. But we guess the saying “there’s no such thing as bad press” is very true on this occasion, as Kimye’s Marmite cover is well on route to becoming one of the fashion Bible’s most popular issues in years! Take that, haters! It’s being reported that the Vogue US April 2014 issue is due to sell between 300,000 and 400,000 copies, which would put it right up there with the magazine’s top-selling issues such as Beyonce’s March 2013 cover which sold about 355,000 copies, and Michelle Obama’s the very next month which sold just under 300,000. Love them or hate them, we can’t seem to get enough of them. The proof is in the Vogue pudding! [Page Six]

Cheryl Cole debuts new look for X Factor press conference

When we saw Cheryl Cole rock a stunning Roberto Cavalli dress at the designer’s autumn/winter 2014 show during Milan Fashion Week last month, we made no secret of the fact that we wanted to see more of her! And, now that it’s been announced that she is returning to the X Factor judging panel, it looks like we got exactly what we wished for! Our pint sized Geordie Princess looked incredible at the X Factor press conference at the swanky Arts Club in Mayfair yesterday (So swanky that Beyonce was spotted in there last week; just sayin’.) She wore a sexy black Lela Rose pre-fall 2013 dress for the occasion, and even debuted a fab new hairstyle at the same time, too. It was longer and blonder than ever, and we have to say that we have once again fallen under Cheryl’s spell. Are you glad to see her return to the X Factor? Do you love her new look?

Paris Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Gareth Pugh, H&M, Vionnet & more

Day 2 of Paris Fashion Week brought us some versatile sartorial new-season delights from some of the fashion big guns such as Gareth Pugh, H&M, Alexis Mabille, Vionnet and Dries van Noten, among others. GARETH PUGH AW14  We think Gareth Pugh gets the award for most talked-about and most theatrical show, as he sent some of his models down the runway with wind-up keys on their backs making them look like a cross between wall-clocks and wind-up dolls. If they weren’t walking around with heavy machinery on their backs, they had very tall – and probably very hard to maneuver in – hats on their heads. Although there were many distractions on the Gareth Pugh autumn/winter 2014 runway, we did manage to pay attention to the clothes too, and discovered that the collection went in yet another different direction to the one we saw last season; yet it was pretty similar in that signature Gareth Pugh only-something-Lady-Gaga-would-wear aesthetic. Reflective, shiny materials juxtaposed with an abundance of plastic and over-the-top fluffy fur, exaggerated silhouettes and so much more. H&M AW14  Paris Fashion Week isn’t just about the big designers, as H&M came out to play by presenting its autumn/winter 2014 collection to a star-studded front row (Miranda Kerr, – the new face of the brand –Jessica Alba and Beyonce’s little sis, Solange Knowles, were all in attendance) at the Grand Palais, otherwise known as the home of the highly anticipated Chanel shows. We saw one of the most wearable and covetable collections hit the runway, with everything from sparkly sequin sweater dresses to comfy cosy cashmere rollneck jumpers all making an appearance. The colour palette was bright and bold to make up for the extreme wintry pieces (the bright orange turtle neck jumper is an MFL fave!), and we predict everyone […]

The Brit Awards 2014: The best dressed!

Last night some of the biggest names in the music industry walked the red carpet at London’s O2 for the 2014 Brit Awards, looking absolutely head-turningly fabulous in the process. Beyonce didn’t actually walk the main red carpet, but she stole the show for us sartorially and vocally. As the surprise performer of the night, Bey wowed the crowd with her performance of XO, and also made jaws drop thanks to her shimmering, figure-hugging Vrettos Vrettakos gown. She looked like a modern day mermaid! Katy Perry proved that we don’t need to wait for the Oscars to see new-season sparkly dresses hit the red carpet, as she stepped out in a glittering Julien Macdonald dress hot off the autumn/winter 2014 catwalk while presenting an award on stage. Rita Ora added some much needed colour to the red carpet by way of an attention-grabbing yellow Prada dress – gorgeous doesn’t even cut it – and Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Iggy Azalea went bold and sexy in the classic wowsome colour, red! Take a look at our best-dressed below and let us know who gets your ultimate vote! WATCH: London Fashion Week AW14 highlights from Burberry, David Koma, Michael van der Ham & more

No rest for the wicked – or stylish – Day 4 of London Fashion Week was just as jam-packed and exciting as ever; and we were there to take in all the action! Where else would we be on a day when Burberry, David Koma, Michael van der Ham, Tom Ford and Roksanda Ilincic are showcasing their autumn/winter 2014 collections, eh? Burberry AW14 One of the highlights of the day – and the five day event as a whole – was the Burberry Prorsum autumn/winter 2014 show. Luckily it was a dry affair (not that a little or a lot of rain would have stopped us) and the front row was as star-studded as ever. Bradley Cooper, Harry Styles, Sky Ferreira, Anna Wintour and more celebs graced the front row to view the collection first hand – and we think they would have been pretty chuffed with what they saw. If there was one thing we took away from the show, It was that we need to go scarf shopping asap. Scarves as you know them will no longer suffice, as it’s all about the oversized ones that can double up as a blanket. Or you could just buy a blanket with your initials on, as they too made it down the Burberry runway in the epic finale. Burberry definitely didn’t do things by halves in the music department either, as we were treated to a stellar performance by the one and only Paloma Faith. Pipe envy! Overall, Burberry presented a soft, casual, comfortable and warm collection which Christopher Bailey said was inspired by the Charleston Farmhouse in Sussex of the Bloomsbury Group. And if you head to the brand’s official website right now you can preorder the collection and ensure that you’re one of the first people to own […]

Skin lightening: personal choice or grave mistake?

Seems thinness isn’t the only endemic physical problem we face these days. The phenomenon of skin bleaching has been taking the globe by storm – and it isn’t new news, either. Recently, an interview in Ebony with Cameroonian pop star, Dencia, threw the controversial topic into the limelight again, after the singer became the face of Whitenicious, a skin lightening cream that promises to treat dark spots and hyperpigmentation. When asked by Ebony if she was refuting the claim that she had willingly bleached her skin to attain a lighter complexion, rather than letting the cream do what it’s supposed to, Dencia responded: “Have I…Has my skin lightened from when…like from the past five years? Yes it has. It has. Has it drastically lightened? No it hasn’t. Is it what people are saying? No it’s not.” Declaring that “dark skin is beautiful,” the singer goes on to defend her support for the skin product in the lengthy interview, before explaining that women should not look to those in the public eye as role models, and instead focus on someone closer to them. Alluring as Dencia’s claims are, if somewhat distracting from the issue at hand, she isn’t the first person to be criticised for aspiring to a Western, White, aesthetic. During his tremendous-to-tragic career, Michael Jackson endured terrible abuse for this drastic skin lightening – something that is highly contested as being an issue of vanity, and often attributed to a skin condition the singer suffered with. Also, the gradual lightening of Beyoncé’s skin colour has courted much controversy during the rise of her super-successful solo career. But here’s what we ask: is skin lightening really such a negative thing, or is it merely a question of personal choice? Much like obvious, often life-threatening plastic surgery; the decision to take […]

Ralph & Russo join Couture Fashion Week schedule

Congratulations to Ralph & Russo! Not only will Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo’s brand be showing at Couture Fashion Week tomorrow for the first time – exciting enough, we think you’ll agree – but it will also be making history by becoming the first British brand to show on-schedule in over 100 years. Quite an accomplishment! “It’s something we’ve wanted for such a long time,” Tamara Ralph said. “We have a high-profile clientele and perhaps that helped; we were what the Chambre de Syndicale was looking for. There was a gap for a label that was glamorous, elegant and feminine. “Design is one thing, but craftsmanship is just as important and many of our team have been trained by the Syndicale. We’re ready for it.” And we’re ready for it too! And in case you wanted to know just how high-profile their aforementioned clientele actually is, we’ll just remind you that goddess Angelina Jolie and Queen Beyonce are both fans of the brand. You don’t get more high profile than that, do you? We can reportedly expect a feminine collection inspired by the Forties and Fifties, but we’re just going to have to wait patiently until tomorrow’s show to see what the pair have up their sleeves. What’s Roberto Cavalli got lined up for Miley Cyrus’s tour wardrobe?

Miley Cyrus, she of the very little clothing, has enlisted the help of some of the hottest designers for her Bangerz tour wardrobe, including Jeremy Scott, The Blonds, her good pal Marc Jacobs, and Roberto Cavalli. We know that Roberto Cavalli is somewhat of a stage costume expert having created tour outfits for Beyonce, Cheryl Cole and even the Spice Girls in the past, so we know that Miley is in good hands. Hands that will create some very daring outfits that will have fans and critics alike talking for days! And judging from the teaser sketches that RC has just released (above), it doesn’t look like Miley will be holding back as far as attention-grabbing, flesh-flashing outfits are concerned. No surprises there, really. We predict that the skin-coloured bodysuits (one with a sheer zebra pattern and the other crystal encrusted one reminiscent to Britney’s Toxic video bodysuit back in the day) in particular are going to send the red blooded males wild. Now, we wonder what Marc Jacobs and co have up their sleeves… [Fashionista]

The Met’s Costume Institute now named “The Anna Wintour Costume Center”

Anna Wintour has received the ultimate honour; after all of her hard work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute (she’s been a trustee since 1999!), the Met has decided to rename the entire Costume Institute exhibition space after her. Ladies and gents, say hello to ‘The Anna Wintour Costume Design Center’. “Anna Wintour’s extraordinary advocacy and fundraising have made this state-of-the-art space a reality,” said the Met’s chairman Daniel Brodsky. “She has the rare ability to rally diverse groups across a wide range of industries to support The Costume Institute so it can educate and inspire visitors from around the world.” Beyonce spoke out yesterday about how girls really don’t run the world, despite the lyrics in her song of the same name suggesting otherwise. However, we don’t think that’s true for all females, as Anna Wintour is doing a ruddy good job of running the fashion world. The Anna Wintour Costume Center will officially reopen on May 8th with the Charles James: Beyond Fashion exhibition red carpet. Do you like the new name change? [Telegraph]

Jay Z’s Barneys collaboration raises over $1 million for charity

It looks like Jay Z made the right decision by sticking with his Barneys collaboration, despite the earlier controversy, as he raised over $1 million for his charity, the Shawn Carter Foundation. The range, rather aptly entitled BNY SCC (although it’s a bit of a mouthful to say!) saw Beyonce’s hubby collaborate with some of the hottest names in the fashion industry including Balmain and Lanvin, where he put his stamp on some pricey clothes and accessories. Pieces included a python-brimmed $875 leather sports cap, an NYC NYC logo t-shirt retailing for a more humble $70, and a $2,950 tuxedo jacket co-created with Lanvin. Both Jay Z and Barneys pledged that 100% of the collaboration’s profits and 10% of all Barney’s sales would go to the Shawn Carter Foundation, a charity which will help students in need pay for their university education. With stats like that, are you glad Jay Z stuck it out or do you think he should have pulled out of the collaboration as soon as the racial controversy started? [Telegraph]

David Beckham and H&M taking over the Super Bowl

This time last year we were beside ourselves with excitement with the knowledge that the one and only Queen Beyonce would be performing at the Super Bowl half time show (she nailed it, obviously!) and it doesn’t look like things are going to get less exciting this year either thanks to Mr David Beckham. Yes, Golden Balls himself will be appearing in the Super Bowl – sort of – as his brand new H&M bodywear commercial will be airing during one of the most coveted and lucrative advertising spots on television. A whole 30 seconds of David Beckham during the Super Bowl definitely sounds like something to entice the ladies into watching the sporting event wouldn’t you say? The good news doesn’t stop there though, as viewers with a Samsung television will also be able to shop on the spot from the comfort of their own homes if they see anything they like in the ad. Unfortunately that only applies to the bodywear and not Becks himself, but still: pretty exciting, no? The Super Bowl XLVIII is happening at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on February 2nd, with Bruno Mars entertaining the world during the half time show! [WWD]

Are we overreacting to Mindy Kaling’s Elle US cover?

As the new crop of magazine cover stars emerge for February, controversy isn’t too far off. In the firing line this week for cropping the hell out of one of its February cover stars, Mindy Kaling, is ELLE US. The Mindy Project star features on one of the four special edition covers celebrating women in TV, alongside New Girls’ Zooey Deschanel, Alison Williams from Girls and Amy Poehler from Parks and Recreation – all of whom are fully featured on their respective covers. Being Kaling’s first major mag-fronting gig, critics were quick to slam the publication for typifying the requirements of an industry bound by a silent, immoral code of skinniness, colour, and a whole load of size zero. But, before jumping on the bandwagon to berate an otherwise respectable and widely read publication, we did a little digging to see where cover stars had been given the crop treatment – regardless of colour, size or celebrity status. And, the results were pretty surprising. Yes, ELLE US repeated the mistake with its October 2010 cover star, Gabourey Sidibe, whose skin was supposedly lightened, and image heavily cropped. And, not forgetting the magazine’s star Adele, who (partially) appeared on the May 2013 issue. But then again, ELLE UK also featured a cropped image of white, size zero, Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel on its December 2013 cover, quickly followed by a shoulders-up appearance from British model and actress, Suki Waterhouse for January 2014. Both ladies’ assets are in line with what the industry deems image perfect. Now, let’s turn to another glossy; Vogue. Although most editions of the magazine have courted controversy in the past, the cover star cuts are still interesting. Only Jennifer Lawrence’s face – the It girl of, basically, everything – graced the September 2013 issue Vogue US, whilst Beyoncé […]

Kate Middleton gets ‘Britain’s Top Beauty Icon’ award for the third consecutive year!

Happy New Year to all of our lovely readers! And we’re kicking off 2014 with one of the least surprising statements ever: Kate Middleton is awesome and everyone knows it! The Duchess of Cambridge has topped Britain’s Top Beauty Icon Award for the third year in a row, beating the likes of the gorgeous Holly Willoughby and even pop royalty Beyonce, who secured the second and third spots respectively. The survey was conducted by Superdrug’s Simon Comins, who had nothing but kind words to say about our future Queen… “The Duchess is always immaculately presented, but is styled in a way the average person can relate to, and take inspiration from,” he said. “Our customers definitely take note of Kate’s look, brunette hair colours and natural makeup have never been more popular, and it’s interesting that the majority of our top ten list this year have naturally brown hair.” An interesting observation as Cheryl Cole, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Scherzinger, Adele and Victoria Beckham – all of whom have luxuriously dark locks – made the Top 10. Still, we can’t help but agree with the results of the poll – Kate Middleton has had a phenomenal 2013 and we predict things will only continue to get better! Does Kate Middleton get your vote?

We’ve had high profile births thanks to the Royal Baby and the Kimye baby, stunning fashion glossy covers, celebrity ad campaigns, Kanye West rants, and lots of fashion House shake-ups among other things. Emma Hill left Mulberry, Marc Jacobs left Louis Vuitton, Tamara Mellon started her own label… yep, 2013 definitely didn’t hold back in terms of drama. We’ve been scratching our heads over this for quite a while, but we’ve finally compiled a list of our top 10 fashion moments from 2013. Let us know what your fave fash mo of the year has been! 1. Prince George’s birth. The birth of the Royal Baby was easily one of the biggest stories in the world, and we waited with baited breath to see what new mummy Kate Middleton would be wearing when she debuted her son – and our future King – to the world. Princess Diana comparisons were made due to the polka dotted nature of her Jenny Packham dress, but we just couldn’t get over how fresh-faced and fabulous she looked after going through labour. What a superhero! 2. Nicolas Ghesquière in at Louis Vuitton. Marc Jacobs made headlines when he announced he would be leaving Louis Vuitton after 16 years at the helm. In other related news, Nicolas Ghesquière, who also sensationally left Balenciaga, was announced as his successor, prompting everyone to rethink what the future of the fashion House might hold. http://youtu.be/WDU7zLAd2-U 3. Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars. In general. Her jaw-dropping Dior dress which she apparently only tried on the morning of the Oscars, her epic Oscars win, and her comedic trip on the red carpet while collecting her gold man. And of course, the ability to laugh at herself! 4. The […]

Chanel (sort of) apologises for that Native American headdress

We’re having a serious case of déjà vu. This time last year, the fashion world was up in arms about the Native Americam headdress Karlie Kloss wore down the Victoa’s Secret catwalk, forcing the brand to pull her appearance from the broadcast and issue an apology for any offence caused. And now the very same thing is happening, only this time it’s Chanel’s Dallas Metiers d’Art show – more specifically the feathered headdress above. The situation hasn’t played out in the same way though, as Karl Lagerfeld didn’t seem keen on getting down on his knees and begging for forgiveness… “The Chanel Paris-Dallas Metiers d’Art 2013/2014 collection is a celebration of the beauty of Texas,” a spokesperson for Chanel said. “Native Americans are an integral part of Texas’ rich history and culture and the feather headdress, a symbol of strength and bravery, is one of the most visually stunning examples of creativity and craftsmanship. “We deeply apologise if it has been misinterpreted or is seen as offensive as it was really meant to be a tribute to the beauty of craftsmanship.” We think that means that they’re sorry if anyone was offended by it, but it’s staying firmly put because their intensions were pure. Thoughts?

David Koma in at Mugler!

David Koma has been announced as Mugler’s new artistic director, following Nicola Formichetti’s departure earlier this year. “I am deeply honored to take up the role of artistic director at Mugler – a house for which I have the utmost admiration and respect,” David Koma said. “For me, Mugler is the most extraordinary fashion house with an undeniably audacious heritage.” No arguments there! David Koma will start his new job at the beginning of the year, and will make his debut with a pre-collection in June, with a full spring/summer 2015 collection in September during Paris Fashion Week. He already has a huge celebrity following, with Beyonce, Cheryl Cole and Miley Cyrus among his famous fans, so we have every faith that the brand is in good hands! Congratulations to David Koma; we can’t wait to see what he has lined up! [WWD] [Image]

How to get the perfect celebrity smile?

It’s often said that a smile is a girl’s best accessory, and the prettiest thing she can wear – and that’s something that we have always stood by. We think maintaining a healthy mouth with regular trips to the dentist and vigilant brushing are just two of the ways of ensuring that your smile is as infectious as possible (in a good way, not in a chicken pox way – obviously!), as well as accentuating your lips by way of some essential cosmetic products. Lip liner, lipstick, lip balm and lip gloss – no make up bag should be complete without those four crucial items in a variety of different shades. And as with most things, we can’t help but turn to some of the greatest names of Tinsel Town for smile-spiration, and we’ve selected five of our favourite smiles for you to try and identify above. Can you guess which smile belongs to which celebrity? You have the likes of Angelina Jolie, Cheryl Cole, Jennifer Garner, Beyonce, Halle Berry, Sofia Vergara and Blake Lively to choose from. We’ve thrown a few red herrings in there to try and make it a bit harder for you. Answers right at the bottom! If you want some extra help to get your smile to rival that of the celebs, there are some great products and treatments available to help you on your way. Long gone are the days when you’d have to spend a fortune to get your teeth sparkling white. One of our favourites – and one which has been most effective in terms of cost and success for us– is the teeth whitening tray treatment. The Smile Brilliant custom fitted teeth whitening trays are formed to fit your teeth so every inch of your mouth is covered to ensure that […]

Solange Knowles, we love your style!

It goes without saying that Beyonce’s little sis is one heck of a style maven. Trend setter, think-outside-the-sartorial-box(er) – whatever you want to call her, we are obsessed with her and her unrivalled sense of style. She is a designer’s dream, and here are a few reasons why: 1. We bet this is exactly how Diane Von Furstenberg imagined this jumpsuit being worn when she was designing it. We wouldn’t change a thing about this look – the prints and colours complement Solange perfectly. If we didn’t know any better we would say it was made just for her! 2. Colour but without overdoing it – that’s exactly what this Sportmax yellow dress was all about. The white shoes and sugary-pink lips added even more colour to the ensemble – a winner all round! 3. Solange Knowles and bright colours and bold patterns go hand in hand, but that doesn’t mean she can’t do understated too. This 3.1 Phillip Lim ensemble is Solange’s way of toning down, and we think she is perfection personified. We love the hair too! 4. Solange Knowles has a killer pair of legs, and she isn’t afraid to show them off! The Etro spring/summer 2014 blouse was the main attraction of this look, which Solange helped emphasise even more thanks to her matching bright lippie. The hair is divine, too! 5. Want to do sexy the quirky way? Look to Solange’s Grammy outfit for inspiration. The green Ralph & Russo Couture dress fit her like a glove (we adore the pink shoes she accessorised with too) and her ultra-voluminous “look at me” hair commanded the perfect amount of attention. Who else but Solange?

Solange Knowles has a brand new job at Puma!

Congrats to Beyonce’s little sis Solange Knowles, as it’s just been announced that she has been named the art director and creative consultant of Puma! “I am extremely excited to announce that I am now able to apply my passion for all things design into my new roll as an Art Director for the iconic Puma,” Solange said. “It is in my new role that I am able to express my love for not only design but the conception of creative ideas, and the execution of them by curating amazingly talented teams. “I’ve had so much fun producing special content, ad campaigns, events, and working alongside the awesome Puma team with some of my favorite emerging artists, photographers, graphic designers to create activations that really celebrates both mine and Puma’s approach and philosophies.” Solange’s first duty was to design Puma’s Girls of Blaze collection, a range of super-colourful shoes that we can expect to hit shops in February next year. We are beyond excited for this collaboration; if her shoes are even half as colourful and stylish as the outfits she steps out in herself, then we know we’re going to be in for a real treat! The pic she posted on her Instagram account above is a great indication of what’s to come! Roll on February! Jay Z WILL continue working with Barneys, explains why

We told you a few weeks ago that Jay Z was rethinking working with Barneys over an alleged racist incident, but the rapper has decided to go ahead with the collaboration. “I have agreed to move forward with the launch of BNY SCC collection under the condition that I have a leadership role and seat on a council specifically convened to deal with the issue of racial profiling,” Jay Z wrote on his website. “I am in a unique position to use my voice to affect change to this disturbing issue. The easy position would have been to walk away and leave policy making to others hoping that someone addresses the problem. I will not leave the outcome to others. I will take this into my own hands with full power to recommend, review and revise policies and guidelines moving forward. I am choosing to take this head on.” We can definitely see Mr Beyonce’s reasoning behind continuing to work with the store. Do you think he made the right decision or should he have pulled out sooner? Let us know your thoughts! [Vogue]

Jay Z taking time to reconsider Barneys collaboration after racist allegations

Don’t get too excited about that upcoming Christmas collaboration between Jay Z and Barneys, as the rapper is in two minds about working with the department store after a series of racist allegations. Mr Beyonce was due to collaborate with Barneys on a Christmas window display, but fans are said to be pressuring him to withdraw after two black customers reportedly claimed they were stopped by police outside the store after splashing out on designer items inside. Jay Z is making no secret of the fact that he is taking his time to think about his decision… “I move and speak based on facts and not emotion,” he wrote on his website. “I haven’t made any comments because I am waiting on facts and the outcome of a meeting between community leaders and Barneys. “Why am I being demonised, denounced and thrown on the cover of a newspaper for not speaking immediately?” Where do you stand on all this? Whose side are you on? What do you think he should do? [Vogue]

Solange Knowles debuts new look in Dubai

Solange Knowles, who is a firm lover of colour, even manages to make black and white look amazing! No one can accuse Beyonce’s little sis of being a wallflower and blending into the background, as she made sure that all attention was on her while she DJ-ed at the Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience. She opted to wear a zany zigzag raffia jacket and skirt fresh from the Christian Siriano Resort 2014 collection, and even debuted a brand new hairstyle for occasion too. Gone was her voluminous Afro, and in its place were some seek, understated braids instead. What a transformation! Solange made her look very autumnal by opting for some dark lippie, and kept the accessories to a minimum, letting the outfit do all the talking. We don’t think we will ever get bored of Solange’s sartorial choices! [Image]

Helen Mirren, Grace Coddington and more ‘Leading Ladies’ pose for Marks and Spencer AW13

We love a good A-list celeb ad campaign – Beyonce for H&M, Rita Ora for DKNY, Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge for Burberry are just a few of our recent faves – but the latest one from M&S pretty much puts all of them in the shade. Instead of tapping one or two of the hottest celebs for its autumn/winter 2013 ad campaign, Marks and Spencer has enlisted the help of Britain’s Leading Ladies… and the results, as you can see, are pretty incredible! Dame Helen Mirren (who we told you would be shooting with Marks and Spencer a few months ago) was photographed by Annie Leibovitz, and was joined by Ellie Goulding, Grace Coddington, Karen Elson, Tracey Emin, Nicola Adams, Helen Allen, Jasmine Whitbread, Monica Ali, Darcey Bussell, Laura Mvula and Katie Piper. Phew! “We wanted this campaign to signal a new and confident tone of voice to introduce Autumn,” said Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne, a spokesperson for M&S. “Annie was the perfect choice to shoot a campaign of this magnitude. Her unmistakable, signature style, with its truly dramatic aesthetic was exactly what we needed to communicate the essence of the campaign and of the new M&S. “Annie’s photography has become synonymous with defining key moments in the history of brands over the years and, as such, we feel that this campaign is the ideal way to illustrate M&S’ move into a new era.” We think this has revolutionised advertising campaigns, and we won’t be surprised if other brands start to up their game in the future. What do you guys think? [Catwalk Queen]

Has Julien Macdonald signed up for Strictly Come Dancing?

It doesn’t take much to convince us to tune into Strictly Come Dancing every autumn, but we think we’re going to be glued to the TV if the rumours that Julien Macdonald will be signing up as a contestant are true! Julien is already a pretty big fan of the show, having appeared on It Takes Two every week last series to discuss and rate the glitz, glamour and movement of the celebrities’ dancing costumes. The Welsh designer has dressed more celebs than you can imagine, from the likes of Beyonce to Cheryl Cole to all else in between, so we might even spot some famous faces cheering him on in the audience which is always an added bonus! If we are to believe the rest of the rumours, Julien will be joined on the dancefloor by model Abbey Clancy, Sophie Ellie Bextor and Vanessa Feltz to name but a few. We’ll keep you posted with more info as and when we get it – we really hope it’s good news! [Telegraph]

“I have one of the best jobs in the world” – Solange Knowles, The Edit

Net-a-Porter’s The Edit is up there with the best of them when it comes to creating powerful covers. The latest issue features none other than Solange Knowles on the cover, and to say it’s breathtaking would be a complete understatement. Looking like a dead ringer for her older sister Beyonce, Solange – complete with a very lengthy barnet – poses pretty on the beach showing off her figure and the newest beach threads. We particularly love the royal blue maxi J Crew dress she is rocking on the front cover! The 27-year-old singer and style maven opened up to the mag about her latest projects, her music sound, and collaborating with big sis Bey… “I don’t think any part of myself as an artist has ever had a moment of intention execution,” she began. “It’s all just been an evolution. I’ve been able to watch such an incredible performer as my sister close-up. It’s molded me. And now I’m letting my son watch me. “I’m having the time of my life. I have one of the best jobs in the world, and to be able to [perform] for an hour a day and make a career out of it, I’m incredibly humbled by it.” Click here to read more from her interview, see more pics, and of course, find out where to shop the pieces in the editorial shoot.

Kerry Washington tops Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed 2013 list

Congratulations to Kerry Washington, as the stunning actress has just been given the coveted top spot in Vanity Fair’s prestigious Best Dressed 2013 list. Do you guys agree with the magazine’s choice? Predictably, Kate Middleton and Victoria Beckham also made the list, coming third and sixth respectively. Other ladies who inevitably made the list are Gisele, Beyonce, Dita von Teese and Charlize Theron, who secured the seventh, 11th, 27th and 34th spots. The blogosphere has expressed its disappointment that Michelle Obama didn’t make the list, and we definitely feel the same way as the First Lady has been on fire this year as far as her sartorial choices are concerned. The red hot Jason Wu dress that she wore to the Inauguration Ball alone was best-dressed worthy, don’t you think? We’re also pretty miffed that the likes of Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo, Jessica Alba, Blake Lively and Miranda Kerr were omitted given their enviable styles. Solange Knowles is a print-tastic dream in New York

Looks like Solange Knowles is after her sister’s trend-setting crown. The singer and general style maven was once pushing the sartorial boundaries as she performed at Fader magazine’s Uncapped event in Brooklyn, New York last night. We know that Beyonce’s younger sis loves her some print, and outfits don’t come more print-tastic than this fab combo courtesy of Clover Canyon. She entertained the crowd while wearing a fun embroidered jumper, and teamed it with matching pineapple jacquard shorts from the brand’s Resort 2014 collection. She’s definitely a walking, talking, singing and dancing unofficial ambassador for the brand, isn’t she? Solange didn’t stop there though; she continued to blow us away with some wow-worthy snakeskin panel heels from the ALDO Rise x Preen Spring 2013 collection. Not everyone would be able to get away with all this print and colour clashing, but then not everyone was born into the trend-setting Knowles family.
