H&M brings models back for AW13 ad campaign

H&M has worked with some pretty big names these past couple of years. Lana Del Rey and Beyonce, anyone? And let’s not forget that Gisele Bundchen herself recently shot an ad campaign for the Swedish retailer… So, despite all these mega-large names lending their faces and bodies to the brand, it’s nice to know that H&M can go back to basics too. For its latest autumn/winter 2013 ad campaign, H&M has gone back to the models, as it has enlisted the help of top models Isabeli Fontana, Frida Gustavsson, Cora Emmanuel and Edita Vilkeviciute to showcase its newest threads. The girls are fully kitted out in their H&M gear on what looks like a fun night out for the first ad campaign image that’s been released. Whether they’re wrapping up warm and keeping out the chill or getting dolled up to head to a fun and glam cocktail bar, H&M seems to have sorted them right out with a host of fabulous affordable pieces to boot. We love it!

UK’s Lucy Mecklenburgh beats Rihanna to “best bikini body” title

As it’s the hottest day of the year so far here in Blighty, the subject of bikinis is actually somewhat refreshing. (We know we’re not actually sitting on a beach in aforementioned bikini, but the subject makes sitting in a warm office slightly more bearable. Don’t ask us why!) The results of a “best bikini body” poll have just been released, and we are as shocked as we are proud to learn that a UK face was chosen – and that face is none other than TOWIE regular Lucy Mecklenburgh. The beautiful brunette beat off stiff competition from the likes of Rihanna, Khloe Kardashian, Beyonce and Jessica Alba who came second, third, and joint fourth respectively. Do you agree with the results? So, even though Lucy doesn’t get as much practice in a bikini as the rest of the other girls do, she still managed to reign supreme in the poll. You go, girl! If you don’t have the confidence to rock a bikini this summer, why don’t you go for some tummy flattering swimsuits instead? They’re just as gorgeous as a regular two-piece in our opinion! Freja Beha Erichsen returns for British Vogue in August issue

She fronted the all-important British Vogue September issue back in 2011, and now Danish beauty Freja Beha Erichsen is back on its front cover, posing fiercely for Patrick Demarchelier’s lens for the August 2013 issue. And is it just us, or did anyone else do a double take when they first saw the picture above as they thought it was Alexa Chung? The hair, the perfectly sculpted cheekbones, the flawless skin and the winning smile did it for us; what do you guys think? We digress… this is another cracking cover shoot from British Vogue with excellent styling by Lucinda Chambers, and we can’t wait to sit out in the sun and flick through the pages while topping up our tans at the weekend. And on another note; we’re glad to see the models back on British Vogue‘s covers; we aren’t saying we didn’t love the Beyonce and Helena Bonham Carter fronted editions (au contraire they were two of our favourite issues of the year so far) but as models fronting fashion glossies is so rare these days, we loved the fact that we could get it from British Vogue. Will the mag go for a model for its September issue? Watch this space – not long to go til we find out!

Gisele still Forbes Most Powerful model

The 2013 Forbes 100 Most Powerful Celebrities list has just been released, and once again Gisele Bündchen has found herself on top as far as models were concerned, securing the 81st spot. Pretty impressive considering how many models – iconic and up-and-coming – she had to beat off. Aussie Miranda Kerr came in at number 100. Unsurprisingly, Oprah Winfrey topped the entire list for the fifth year, but Lady Gaga came a very close second, with Beyonce securing the very respectable fourth spot. We can definitely see how those three ladies have influenced the world! Music queens Madonna, Taylor Swift and Rihanna came fifth, sixth and 13th respectively, while MFL fave actresses Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie, Kristen Stewart, Gwnyneth Paltrow, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep also secured places on the list. Is there anyone you think Forbes left out? [Forbes]

Holly Willoughby cheers up the This Morning audience in bright Oasis

Kate Middleton, Beyonce, Alexa Chung – what do all of these ladies have in common? Great hair? Enviable wardrobes? Big bank balances? Perhaps, but we are talking about their shared love of the Great British high street. Holly Willoughby is another style maven with a penchant for the high street – in particular Oasis! Holly was spotted on This Morning wearing a gorgeous turquoise lace dress from the popular high street store last week; and she loved it so much that she wore it again in a totally new (but just as gorgeous!) colour. She looked hot on both occasions, but we’re definitely swaying towards the yellow one she wore on Monday – is it because it reminds us of the sun that we love and miss so much? Probably! The dress also comes in navy blue – who wants to bet that she will crack that one out during the autumn? Click here to get Holly’s high street look for yourself!

H&M to stop using “too skinny” models in ad campaigns

While we can’t always afford the glorious gowns that grace the catwalks during fashion month, we think it’s pretty safe to say that we’ve all bought something from H&M in the past. As the Swedish retailer has such a large and diverse spectrum of “fans”, if you will, we think it’s great that changes are being made to stop overly skinny models appearing on the advertising campaigns and therefore influencing impressionable girls. “We want to show diversity in our advertising and not give people the impression that girls have to look a particular way,” said H&M CEO Karl-Johan Persson. “By and large, I think we’ve succeeded: we’ve many different kinds of models from different ethnic backgrounds. In our last campaign we had a somewhat more buxom model, and now we’re using Beyonce, who’s a bit curvier as well. “I believe that the models in our advertising should look sound and healthy. There are models who are too thin or obviously underweight, but there are also those who’re just thin, and they’re the ones we should keep working with, as long as they look sound and healthy.” He also admitted that H&M haven’t always got it right in the past… “I don’t think we’ve always been good,” he continued. “Some of the models we’ve had have been too skinny. That’s something we think a lot about and are working on. We’re not blind to the issue. But I have to be honest and say that some of our models have been too skinny. That’s not OK.” Beyonce really is the perfect example of a healthy woman, wouldn’t you agree? Well done H&M – we hope other retailers follow suit! [Vogue]

Doutzen Kroes for H&M’s spring/summer 2013 campaign!

We bet it’s been pretty busy in the H&M offices these past couple of months. Not only did the fab Swedish retailer have all that Beyonce for H&M excitement to deal with, but it also made the wonderful decision to invite supermodel extraordinaire Gisele back to front more ad campaigns. Not surprising, she is a pro after all! However, not content with Beyonce and Gisele, H&M has also enlisted the help of Victoria’s Secret Angel Doutzen Kroes for its brand spanking new spring/summer 2013 ad campaign… and we couldn’t be happier with the signing as Doutzen is pretty much the ultimate beach babe! A bronzed Doutzen (complete with essential tousled beach waves in her hair) was photographed in the picturesque location of Tulum Mexico, and is showcasing a host of luscious, African-inspired summer pieces. You can expect everything from animal printed belted swimming costumes to essential embellished beach cover-ups and more. [Sassi Sam]

The art of ungratefulness, or is it?

If you’re one of these people who seethes with anger over the daily shenanigans of those swimming in pools of money, yet still bemoaning some petty aspect of their gilded life, then ‘ungrateful’ is probably the most used word in your celeb-hating lexicon. For us, we’re not so much seething, as we are perplexed, at the audacity of privileged individuals to complain about something most people would leap out of a plane unaided for. But, sometimes, scratching beneath the surface of a superstar’s discontent could reveal some really interesting stuff. Like when Gwyneth Paltrow publicly announced her dislike for this year’s Met Gala (you could’ve posted us your invite, y’know). Or when an ex-Victoria’s Secret, dollar-raking model suddenly decided to quit everything, up sticks and move to a town nearly two-and-a-half thousand miles west of New York. And it’s the latter story that mainly took us by surprise. Karlie Kloss, Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosia; the names of just three of the many Angel’s who form part of a whimsical establishment which celebrates bejewelled bras and toned tums like the world’s existence depends on it. Paid in the millions, and elevating relatively unknown faces to supermodel status; anyone in their right minds wouldn’t kick such an offer in the face. Well, Kylie Bisutti (pictured) would argue otherwise. The ex-Angel quit the glitz and glamour of the modelling world in February last year, after claiming the industry made her feel like a ‘sex worker’. Now a devout Christian, Kylie felt that modelling in nothing more than skimpy smalls went against the fundamentals of her religious beliefs. But it was a particular photo shoot that pushed the promising model over the edge, making her realise she wasn’t conveying a positive message to a much younger generation of girls aspiring to her, and […]

The Met Gala 2013 – PUNK: Chaos to Couture red carpet roundup!

Forget the Oscars, the biggest, most fashionable night of the year is of course the Met Gala (or Met Ball, whichever you prefer) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and this time round the theme was “Punk: Chaos to Couture”. This meant that there was an abundance of spikes, safety pins, short and fierce hair, and bags and bags of attitude… and the lucky A-listers who managed to secure an invitation to the prestigious event most definitely brought their sartorial A game on the red carpet. Celebs with short hair had a particularly easy ride as far as interpreting the punk theme was concerned as the likes of Karlie Kloss and Miley Cyrus really embraced it with their respective hairstyles. Sarah Jessica Parker didn’t let a little thing like long hair deter her from going all-out though, as she donned a fabulous Philip Treacy headpiece that was just as punk-rock as it was Carrie Bradshaw. Anne Hathaway finally got her Valentino red carpet moment this year – we definitely think she made up for not wearing his dress at the Oscars. We reckon she will be one of the hottest points of conversation, as she truly embraced the theme by channeling Blondie’s Debbie Harry and bleaching her hair blonde. Take a look at some of our stand-out looks: Beyonce in Givenchy  Anne Hathaway in vintage Valentino Cara Delevingne in Burberry Amber Heard in Emilio Pucci Kristen Stewart in Stella McCartney Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles Deacon and Philip Treacy Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs Taylor Swift in J Mendel  Katy Perry in Dolce and Gabbana Rooney Mara in Givenchy Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy Couture  Karlie Kloss in Louis Vuitton Hailee Steinfeld in Donna Karan Atelier Dakota Fanning in Rodarte Coco Rocha in Emanuel Ungaro  Nina Dobrev […]

Gisele is the new face of H&M

Beyonce isn’t the only famous face to front an H&M ad campaign this year. 32-year-old Brazilian supermodel Gisele will once again be posing for the Swedish retailer – her latest stint was back in 2011 in case you forgot – as she was spotted out and about shooting for the new autumn/winter 2013 ad campaigns in London. Welcome back, Gisele. We’ve missed you! What do you think of the sneaky behind-the-scenes pic above? Gisele was spotted wearing some slim-fit khaki-coloured trousers, teamed with a casual, slouchy white blouse, some fierce leather ankle boots with a chunky heel, and even a chauffer hat in some of the other pictures that have surfaced. Interesting stuff! Looks like we’re going to love the pieces H&M will be offering us this autumn/winter season. We can’t wait to see more – stay tuned! [Daily Mail]

2013 Met Gala dresses available to buy the very next day?!

Moda Operandi is famed for providing us with hot-off-the-runway pieces months before they land in any other store, but it’s now going one step further by vowing to make this year’s Met Gala outfits available to buy the very next day. Can we get a woop woop? So how is all of this going to be possible? Well it might have something to do with the fact that the 2013 Met Gala is sponsored by Moda Operandi, as well as the fact that the schlebs have been planning their outfits for the big night months in advance. Hopefully no Anne Hathaway style last-minute changes will happen to throw a spanner in the works! “Events like the Met Gala offer some of the most spectacular fashion moments because they inspire experimentation,” said Moda Operandi co-founder Lauren Santo Domingo.”We are thrilled to be able to provide women with access to the fashions from one the world’s most thrilling red carpet events.” We already know that dresses from the likes of Balmain, Anthony Vacarello, Rodarte, Nina Ricci and Wes Gordon will all be up for grabs; now all we have to find out is which famous face will be stepping onto the red carpet in the aforementioned designers. Let the guessing game commence… [Huffington Post]

Image and Insanity: Will the visual torment ever stop?

The ‘selfie’ culture has mostly destroyed all realms of the personal. From self-obsessed celebrities sharing half naked pictures, showing off toned limbs and abs to maximum effect, to the star blogger doing an #ootd (that’s outfit of the day to me and you) and reinforcing the idea that matchstick legs are a prerequisite to carrying off the latest Joseph leather legging purchase with the same panache as the e-tail model they were initially spied on. This week, the oft-discussed and somewhat tiresome issue of image – more specifically weight – has once again flared up with such intensity, that it’s a difficult topic to leave out of regular discussions around doughnuts and tea when the 3pm slump strikes (apologies for the painful irony associated with weight issues being dissected over a greasy yum yum). Most recently, the denizen of image-related controversy and champion of public hatred, Samantha Brick, appeared on This Morning to defend her view that, in order to attain happiness, women must remain on a constant diet to stay thin. Strong, but unsurprising words coming from a woman who declared her sheer beauty being the reason other women were out for her blood. And props to her for being so forthright in voicing her opinion; after all, we do exist in a free-speaking democratic country, right? But does it help that in the same week we have images of an unnaturally thin Abbey Clancy frolicking on a beach shoot in summery smalls, and sharing pictures of her prominent ribcage? Or the fact that there’s concern over Angelina Jolie’s limbs looking increasingly slimmer? Even Beyoncé has banned ‘natural’ photographs from being taken at her shows to prevent being caught off guard and looking normal, we suppose; instead preferring suspiciously perfectly angled shots depicting her in top form – hardly […]

People names Gwyneth Paltrow ‘Most Beautiful’

Well Gwyneth Paltrow really is racking up those column inches this week, isn’t she? While she may not have been too fond of the criticism about her clothing website that came about a few days ago, we think she’ll be quite thrilled with the news that she has been voted People’s “World’s Most Beautiful. And she should feel extra privileged to nab the title, because it went to none other than Beyonce last year! Congrats Gwyn! The actress opens up to the mag about family life, her marriage to Chris Martin and letting her daughter wear make-up, and also shares some health and beauty tips too. In other words it’s a not-to-be-missed issue! Amanda Seyfried, Zooey Deschanel, Kerry Washington, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry and Drew Barrymore are some of the other ladies who made it onto the list; the issue goes on sale this Friday, so snap it up quick to find out who else made it on there. Do you agree with People? Do you think Gwyneth Paltrow is the world’s most beautiful woman? [People]

Gucci launches Music Fund for rising UK talent

Following on from the success of last year’s Gucci Timepieces & Jewellery Music Fund which supported emerging Asian musical talent, the Italian fashion House has launched a UK Music Fund to give British artists the same opportunity. Gucci will team up with The World Heart Beat Music Academy in London to give children the chance to be musically trained. A host of famous faces have already got behind the cause, in particular DJ Jo Whiley and singer Emeli Sandé. “It’s crucial that young people today have the chance to express themselves through music and are given opportunities to do so,” Emily Sandé said. “Projects like this make music available to everyone; disadvantaged youths in particular will be able to tell their story and get their voices heard. “These are issues that are close to my heart, so I’m really proud to be part of it.” Additionally, 10 children from the World Heart Beat Music Academy will also be given the chance to attend Grammy Camp in Los Angeles – a programme which aims to coach rising young talent. Maybe the next Adele will be found… This isn’t the only musical event Gucci is getting behind though – don’t forget the Gucci Chime for Change concert happening later this year with performances from Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, Rita Ora, Florence and the Machine and more. Gwyneth Paltrow chats sisterhood, detoxing and de-stressing in Self’s April issue

April could not come sooner, and that’s not just because we want to rid ourselves of the depressing weather, but because a very bronzed and glowing Gwyneth Paltrow is posing pretty for Self Magazine. We’ve missed her on the fashion glossy covers! This is the perfect issue for those looking for some health kick tips (as is April’s Shape issue with Beyonce on the cover, FYI), as Gwyn explains how she detoxed her life by healthy living, and the effect it has had on her body, marriage, and emotional health. “I cut out basically everything: dairy, sugar, gluten, anything processed. I was like, ‘What the f— am I going to eat now?’ That’s why I made the book to stop eating brown rice out of the fridge because I didn’t know what else to eat—it was demoralising, ” she said. “You feel lighter and your emotions get smoother.” And how does the Iron Man star de-stress after a hard day? “I watch Homeland or New Girl,” she continued. “I also like to have martinis with my girlfriends. I feel a sisterhood emerging around me. I’m less threatening now that I’m 40 and not 26-with-an-Oscar. There’s a sense of love and support.” Martinis and New Girl? Check and check – Gwyn is definitely a girl after our own hearts! You can read more useful hints and tips in April’s Self mag!

Is Rihanna headlining Glastonbury this year?

Designing a collection for one of our favourite high street stores might not be Rihanna’s only reason to jet into Britain this year. According to various reports that have been doing the rounds this morning, the singer has been tapped to headline the Glastonbury Festival later this summer… and we won’t lie, we’re already pretty excited! “She is the perfect choice,” a ‘source’ allegedly told The Daily Star. “Beyonce stole the show two years ago and there’s no reason why Rihanna can’t do the same. She’s got a huge back-catalogue and is undoubtedly the biggest female artist around at the moment bar Adele.” Hopefully there will be an official statement confirming the speculation soon so we can get our tickets. And who knows, Ri Ri might even take to the stage in her very own Rihanna for River Island collection! [Marie Claire]

The 55th Grammy Awards 2013: The best dressed!

Grammy time! The red carpet got rolled out on both sides of the pond yesterday; while the biggest acting stars in the world jetted into London for the BAFTAs, the singing sensations headed to sunnier climes (Los Angeles, to be exact) for the 55th annual Grammy Awards. We were looking forward to seeing what the girls ended up wearing, given the stricter dress code they had to work with this year. We expected a few of them to be rebellious and flash the flesh anyway (if you’ve got it, you may as well flaunt it) but they actually more or less behaved themselves… save for a few plunging necklines and J-Lo’s dangerously high slit dress. If you joined us last night for our live-tweeting you might remember that we got particularly excited by the arrival of pop Princess Rihanna, who stuck to the rules and went for a phenomenal red custom Azzedine Alaia gown, and music Queen Beyonce who defied expectations and went for a modern monochrome pant suit by LFW-fave Osman…  and totally working it, may we add! Check out the full list of our best-dressed below; and as usual, don’t forget to vote for your favourite! New York Fashion Week highlights from BCBG Max Azria, Red Valentino, Juicy Couture and J Brand

New York Fashion Week is officially under way, with collections from BCBG Max Azria, Red Valentino, Juicy Couture and J Brand helping to kick things off. Red Valentino (above) was for the romantic and feminine dressers, and those who love a good fairytale. The collection was reportedly inspired by Hansel and Gretel, which is pretty evident from the embroidery found in the prints of the dresses. We particularly loved the tailoring in the jackets! Oh and we saw quite a few Beyonce-at-the-Superbowl style knee high socks too. Trend alert! There wasn’t a single flannel/velour tracksuit in sight at Juicy Couture, and instead we saw an entirely wearable collection fit for that cool, casual, and care-free girl about town. J Brand  was a bit dull in terms of colour palette as we mainly saw blacks, greys and a hint of white, but it came alive in terms of texture, styling and variety. We love a good statement belt, and this collection gave us plenty. A great way to kick off New York Fashion Week and indeed the autumn/winter 2013 season. J Brand BCBG Max Azria Juicy Couture

FASHION CHART: 10 things going up and going down this month

Charting the movements of the ever-evolving world of fashion is no small feat. It’s in. Oh, it’s out now. That’s far too 2012 to be considered for this year, and did you just really say winter coat? Whether we’re considering the size and brand catalogue of the forthcoming Kan-dashian offspring, or just how incomplete we feel every time we look in the mirror to find our eyebrows don’t even come close to Cara’s mega-furry (in a good way) monsters, we thought we’d share February’s fashion ups and downs with you. After all, sharing is so 2013.   GOING UP Senso Qimat booties Have you met the new season-perfect boot? These transitional treaders come in a gorgeous pale grey and are fab for when you want to add a spring feeling to your shoe-drobe, without risking frostbite in open-toe sandals. That Super Bowl outfit Sorry, who was Rubin Singer until Queen Bey stomped around on-stage in his creation during her phenom Super Bowl half-time performance? Body suits are the new obsession, (especially with a booty like Bey’s), and Rubin Singer, the ridiculously handsome, New York-based designer who’s dressed the like of Solange Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys and Lea Michele, is our new one to watch! The Big Browed Brit Beauty takeover (and a whole lotta alliteration) We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Cara fever has gripped us, and we’re hypnotised by those brows. The new face of Pepe Jeans, scores of SS’13 campaign under her belt and a Vogue cover to boot – does this girl ever stop? Err, fashion month? With New York Fashion Week in full swing and London Fashion Week a mere nine days away, need we say more? (Note: panic stricken facial expression). Fashion Month is upon us once again, so welcome blisters, food-less days […]

Jennifer Lawrence stuns in Stella McCartney at Santa Barbara Film Festival

With all the hoopla surrounding Beyonce, Destiny’s Child and the Superbowl, we almost forgot about this Jennifer Lawrence look. Almost. Nothing really gets past us though, so we’d just like to gush about Jennifer Lawrence at the 28th Santa Barbara Film Festival in California for a while. As the new face of Miss Dior, we know that Raf Simons designs are her first port of call when it comes to choosing red-carpet outfits (no doubt she will stick to Dior for those all-important Oscars) so it’s always nice to see who she goes for on all other occasions. We’re thrilled that she not only stepped out in a number by 2012 British Designer of the Year Stella McCartney, but that she mixed it up by going for an edgy silk jumpsuit instead of another dress. Expertly tailored, the piece from Stella’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection fits her like a glove, and the colour complements her hair and skin tone beautifully. Let’s not forget that Jen donned a Dior dress in this shade for the SAG Awards, which earned her a top spot on our best-dressed list. We get more excited with Jennifer Lawrence with each and every red carpet appearance – God only knows what we’re going to be like at the Oscars later this month. Watch this space!

Taylor Swift signs Diet Coke sponsorship deal

We loved what Jean Paul Gaultier has done with Diet Coke since becoming temporary creative director of the drink, but it looks like he’s handed over the reigns to the young Taylor Swift. The country singing sensation isn’t designing bottles a’ la JPG though, and will instead be fronting the ad campaigns for the drink for the foreseeable future. Do you think she is a good sponsor? “I wanted to share some news with you, because we’re finally making it official with one of the great loves of my life…Diet Coke,” she wrote on her Twitter page. “I’ve said for years that Diet Coke just ‘gets me’ and my lifestyle,” she added in a statement. I’m so excited about our new partnership.” Good luck to Taylor – the fizzy drink sponsorship biz is quite a lucrative one to fingers crossed she doesn’t do a Britney and mess it up. Let’s not forget that she has competition from the one and only Beyonce who has signed a deal with rival brand Pepsi. May the best singer/drink win… [Daily Mail]

Nicholas Kirkwood wins BFC/Vogue Fashion Fund

Massive congratulations to Nicholas Kirkwood this morning, as the footwear designer has just been announced as the winner of the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. And what a worthy recipient! Nicholas beat off stiff competition from Roksanda Ilincic, Mary Katrantzou, Peter Pilotto and Emilia Wickstead, and although we think all the candidates deserved the prize (we definitely wouldn’t be able to choose, put it that way!) we can certainly see why he won. “The calibre of applications in the shortlist was second to none, all of the designers proved that they are at a very crucial stage in their business when the fund could deliver a real opportunity to accelerate growth,” said BFC chief executive Caroline Rush. “However, Nicholas’ application provided a clear and compelling case for how both funding and targeted mentoring would be used to assist him in taking the next steps in developing a global brand.” Everyone from Beyonce to Miranda Kerr to Jennifer Lawrence to Jessica Biel are famous fans of his designs (the shoes Jess is wearing in the pic above are actually one of our favourite pairs!), and we have a feeling his new accolade is going to get him even more clients. Congrats again, Mr Kirkwood! Do you think the right designer won? [Vogue]

5 of our all-time favourite Elie Saab dresses

A name synonymous with red carpet dressing so ethereal, it leaves us speechless every Awards Season; Elie Saab’s designs are a sartorial dream come true. The Lebanese couturier has dressed everyone from Nicole Kidman to Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez in his elegantly refined, red-carpet ready gowns, so we don’t expect his bucket list to be very long! But even with all his striking designs on the super-bods of every super-being to reside in the Hollywood hills, Elie Saab only became a household name just over a decade ago, when Halle Berry wore one of his creations to pick up the ‘Best Actress’ award at the 2002 Oscars for her role in Monster’s Ball. And since, the designer has clearly cast an unbreakable spell over A-list town – we can’t get through a red-carpet soirée without a Saab creation making a scene-stealing appearance! Lea Michele in the designer’s crystal-encrusted halter neck design at last week’s Golden Globes was a perfect example of the atelier master’s jaw-drop effect. In honour of one of most reputed names rolling off the tongues of the rich and famous in celeb and fashionville, here are five of our all time favourite Elie Saab dresses for you to drool over. Beyonce, 2007 Golden Globes In Bey’s, or should we say Destiny’s Childs terms, this gown was definitely Bootylicious! Form fitting, it showed off the singer’s assets to perfection, and a plunging neckline and sequin embellishment oozed glamour. Halle Berry, 2002 Oscars This was the look that launched a thousand gowns, and put Elie Saab on the red carpet map. Halle Berry picked up the biggest gong of the night, and looked equally outstanding! A sheer, embroidered body contrasted against a merlot-hued skirt spelt perfection; a defining and unforgettable look, even 11 years on! Rihanna, 2012 American Music […]

Celebrities Rocking the Wedge Sneaker Trend

[noskim] Forget Manolos and Louboutins, this season there’s only one way celebs are looking to get their high heel fix: with wedge sneakers. Hollywood A-listers aren’t just wearing their favourite pair of kicks to the gym these days; lately they’ve been spotted incorporating sneakers into their wardrobes in ultra fashionable ways. The wedge trainer trend has kicked off in a big way this autumn, creating a new look craze that combines the high-top sneaker with a chunky hidden wedge heel, to give stars extra lift as well as sporty street cred. Isabel Marant started the new fad when her new take on the old basketball favourite took to the runways as part of her S/S collection. Giving a traditionally masculine shoe an uber-trendy feminine edge, they’re currently taking the high fashion world by storm. Fashionistas have been using them to glam up their casual daywear, as a comfortable alternative to a sexy heel. The look has already taken to the high street too, with Nike launching their own swooshed-up version at JD Sports. So which celebs are stepping out in the new trend? Here are some of the latest stars spotted in the new look wedges. From keeping it on the down low to dressing them up for a night out on the town, they’re all rocking them in different ways, giving us some style inspiration, and proving that this shoe doesn’t just look cool, it’s versatile to boot. Miranda Kerr was one of the first A-listers to slip into wedge sneakers, seen strolling around JFK airport in a pair of red Isabel Marants. Teaming them with a pair of black skinny jeans and a button-down blouse, she kept it casual while travelling with her son. It seems celebrity mums are all big fans of the comfy new heels. Solange Knowles brightens up her listening party in Boxing Kitten

Solange Knowles really knows how to get a party started! Or at least, that’s what her wardrobe choices scream whenever we see her! More often than not, Beyonce’s little sis steals the sartorial show in a loud, attention-grabbing item of clothing, and this time was no exception. The singer and model looked gorgeous in a bright printed playsuit from the Boxing Kitten spring/summer 2013 collection, which she wore for the listening party of her brand new album True in LA. Never in our wildest dreams would the British weather allow us to wear something that cute and skin-bearing in the middle of December, but we guess that’s one of the countless perks of living in California… We might steal some inspiration from Solange this Christmas though, and don a bright playsuit with a few layers of tights underneath. And maybe a chunky knit to keep out the chill. What do you think? Would certainly make a nice change from the traditional Christmas jumper and red and white colour palette, hm?! [Image]

Treat yourself to an Electric London Champagne Blowdry this Christmas

So you’ve got that Christmas party coming up and while your dress is picked out, your shoes and handbag match perfectly and your make-up palette has been planned out down to the very last coat of lipgloss, you know there’s something you’ve missed out. Your hair. Do you go for a chic updo and risk having a cold neck, or do you go for something long and flowing in the hope that there’s a good wind machine on the dance floor so you can do your best Beyonce-style hair flick? Overall – it’s a bit of a nightmare. Luckily for you, we have a solution to the problem… let someone else do it for you! You’ve worked yourself to death buying and wrapping the presents, cooking the turkey (or at least peeling some spuds – we all get roped into doing something one way or another), entertaining the family and making sure everyone knows the rules to Monopoly, so why not treat yourself to a little post-Christmas-Day hair pamper-sesh? If you want to live like a celeb for a day (and look like one for a lot longer) why don’t you head down to celebrity hairdresser Mark Woolley’s Electric hair salon and get a champagne treatment (the champagne is for you, not your hair in case there was any confusion) and let him and his team work their magic on your tresses? You can kill two birds with one stone and give your hair some TLC with the luxurious conditioning treatment that leaves your hair looking and smelling divine, and then get a great hairstyle to go along with it. Perfect for choosing a hairstyle for a Christmas or new year party (or general party – who are we kidding, it doesn’t have to be New Year for a good old […]

The Spice Girls kill it at Viva Forever premiere in London’s Piccadilly

Whether you were in the middle of London in the heart of all the action, or refreshing Twitter every 30 seconds from your office chair across the pond, we know that you were all talking about the Spice Girls’ appearance at the Viva Forever premiere in Piccadilly last night. We know we weren’t the only ones who squealed with delight and got an instant flashback to the good old nineties when four girls by the alter egos of Scary, Sporty, Baby and Ginger stepped out of a London cab and onto the red carpet. Aren’t there five Spice Girls we hear you cry? Well yes… don’t worry, Posh Spice wasn’t completely MIA – she arrived fashionably late with hubby David Beckham (swoon) and the rest of her Burberry-clad boys. All of the girls pulled out all the stops last night, serving up a sartorial treat for all their fans. We’re glad they didn’t go for matchy-matchy outfits and instead did what they do best – stand out from the crowd (and each other) and bring their own personality to their outfits. Mel C showed off her perfect pins in a gorgeous Miu Miu dress teamed with bedazzling Swarovski pumps (not a single trackie or trainer in sight), Emma kept things chic and sweet in a lace blue Erdem creation, Mel B channeled Beyonce with an ultra-glam dress that showed off her wonderfully toned figure, Geri looked like a modern-day fairy-tale princess and Victoria pulled off the androgynous luxe look she does so well in Isabel Marant trousers and a blouse and coat from her own collection. Phew! Best dressed Spice Girl?

Rita Ora covers Glamour UK’s January 2013 issue in Christian Dior

22-year-old British singer Rita Ora has been in the press a lot these past 24 hours, but we’re not going to focus on all the negative aspects and instead will divert your attention to a more positive subject: her latest Glamour cover. Yes, Rita is the cover star of Glamour UK’s January 2013 issue, which we think couldn’t have come at a better time – new year, new start and all that jazz! The RIP singer (let’s hope she isn’t saying that to her career after the allegations over the past few days!) is prone to sporting the odd questionable outfit while she’s out and about – often choosing to dress rather casually and androgynously – but she’s rocking a gorgeous feminine Christian Dior dress for the Glamour cover… and we don’t think she’s ever looked better! We can’t wait to see what other bold fashion choices Rita will be treating us to in the new year; will she go for an image overhaul? Only time will tell! Do you like Rita’s girly Glamour cover or are you a fan of her edgier looks? And are you as fascinated by that “the unforgettable advice Beyonce gave me” quote as we are?

Anna Wintour’s Runway to Win raised $40 million for Barack Obama’s campaign

Whoever said fashion and politics don’t mix has some serious reconsidering to do… Remember that Runway to Win initiative (the brainchild of Anna Wintour) that we told you about a few months ago? Well it only went and raised a staggering $40 million in total for Barack Obama’s campaign! If your memories are a bit iffy, allow us to summarise. A host of celebs and designers teamed up to create all sorts of fashionable items ranging from t-shirts to bags to raise money for Obama’s campaign. Beyonce, Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane von Furstenberg  and Prabal Gurung were just a few of the famous faces who took part… We think it’s safe to say that it was a roaring success as the $40 million contributed rather nicely to Obama’s whopping $637.3 million total. Even though Anna Wintour spearheaded the Runway to Win collaboration, let’s not forget that she also lent her support to the President by hosting all those star studded fundraisers. See, it isn’t just the fashion world that owes a lot to the Vogue editor! [Styleite]

Markus Lupfer and Donna Air launch childrenswear at Debenhams

Markus Lupfer has joined forces with actress, TV presenter and model Donna Air to create an affordable childrenswear line for Debenhams. We love a good Markus Lupfer knit (the blue vampire one at the bottom is a particular favourite) and it looks like Donna Air and her nine-year-old daughter do too, hence her inspiration for the collaboration… “I was buying all of Markus’ jumpers for the many children in my life and I was like: ‘This is insane, we have to do it for children and we have to do it at a great price for mums’,” she said. The collection is designed for girls ages 4 to 14 and is a direct extension of his womenswear collection, which means his signature pictures, slogans and motifs will be in abundance. Markus Lupfer is a firm favourite among the celebs too, with the likes of Olivia Palermo and Beyonce donning his designs, so snapping up a wallet-friendly creation for the children in your family this Christmas is sure to go down well! The Markus Lupfer and Donna Air collection launches in Debenhams on November 26. Click here to get a preview! [Telegraph]

Will the power of fashion’s tastemakers sway you politically?

Their translation of trends influences what we fill our wardrobes with, we take their word for it when designer gets a little difficult to decipher (Prada’s S/S’13 collection, anyone?), and we strive to somehow recreate their thoroughly individual styles for want of feeling part of the fash pack – basically, fashion’s tastemakers rule the roost. But what of the recent involvement of fashion in the dark and twisted world of politics? Does the power these tastemakers possess transcend to the White House, or the polling stations being lined by several million Americans today? The First Lady’s super-scrutinised, often lauded wardrobe; Ann Romney’s take on pink being a point of contention between the political and style rivals (some would agree with the latter), and who can forget Anna Wintour’s mammoth, star-studded Pro-bama fundraising efforts. Beyoncé even donned those ‘Obama’ hoop earrings again, and Katy Perry’s nailed the campaigning efforts with those nails, set to sway many in the direction of politico-inspired nail art, and possibly an indirect way of saying: You keep Obama, you keep America looking pretty. (We’re not swayed, we promise. We can’t even vote!) So, we put this to you, our loyal and currently-facing-political-crunch-time US readers: With a neck-and-neck start to bagging the most powerful political position in the world, has your decision today been influenced at all by the tastemakers to whom you aspire? Non-US readers can (hypothetically) join in too. Honest answers only and we’ll let you know once the votes are in.

Alexa Chung and Tavi Gevinson sing their support for Obama

With the day of the US presidential elections edging closer and closer, it looks like Barack Obama needs all the help he can get if he is to defeat opponent Mitt Romney who plans to axe funding for Planned Parenthood if he is elected. A host of A-listers from the likes of Beyonce and Jessica Alba have been keen to show their support for current President Barack Obama, but that’s not where it ends. Even Alexa Chung has jumped on the bandwagon, and has joined Tavi Gevinson, Tennessee Thomas and more ladies in lip-synching Lesley Gore’s 1964 hit You Don’t Own Me in a bid to encourage women to vote against Mitt Romney. The video was spearheaded by Sarah Sophie Flicker, the leader of cabaret act The Citizens Band. “In a year that has seen the greatest backlash against women’s rights in recent history, now is the time not only to vote, but to send a mandate,” Sarah told Examiner. “I’m struck by the fact that we are teetering dangerously close to a situation where my daughter won’t have the same rights I’ve enjoyed my entire life and that scares the heck out of me. Women constituted 60 per cent of the last election’s voters. We can win this thing. We just have to agitate, motivate, and get out the darn vote!” You heard her, American readers!

Kim Kardashian finally gets her “Vogue” cover!

A slap on the face for a certain editrix who slapped a Met Ball ban on the woman with over 15 million ‘twitters’, or maybe a symbol of a star status well cemented, Kim Kardashian on the July/August issue of L’Uomo Vogue is well and truly surprising. Surprising because the most powerful woman at the helm of the Vogue collection (collectively, say Anna Wintour) has made her intentions clear about letting the reality star-cum-enormous attention amassing Armenian grace the cover of the US version of the publication. Surprising because the Kardashian clan has really had to fight in order to etch their name alongside Hollywood’s elite on wall of fame: they aren’t ‘famous’ for anything, but being famous. Yet here she is, bearing an uncanny, yet strikingly beautiful resemblance to her mother, better known as momager Kris Jenner, on the cover of another Condé Nast edition, and metaphorically raising a two fingered salute to those who deny her the bonafide star status she longs for. The black and white cover image shows Kim Kardashian in a situation she’s comfortably accustomed to – being hounded by the paparazzi, but looking particularly composed and oh-this-is–my life about it. Shot by Francesco Carrozzini, son of Vogue Italia’s ed-in-chief, Franca Sozzani, the shoot took place in LA’s Chinatown, accompanied by a rather aptly titled editorial “Just Unconventional.” Donning a wig, oversized shades and an upturned collar jacket that helps complete her Kris Jenner look, Kim has, what we call in the modern age of accomplishment, made it. As I type, Kim is at the zenith of her ‘public’ career, and in a position many – even those super-critical of her- would agreeably want to be. Current ‘measures’ of success and outreach, otherwise known as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are testament to this Kardashian’s infectiousness, […]

The must-have list for fashionable mums-to-be!

We’ve had a whole host of recent celebrity pregnancies and newbie mums who have brought a whole new meaning to ‘yummy mummy.’ Take Beyoncé, for example, who looked every inch the princess of pregnancy while she was expecting daughter Blue Ivy. Her maternity style was just as mind-blowing as her bootylicious stage outfits – OK, maybe not as eccentric, but who can forget that orange Lanvin gown at the 2011 VMA’s and all the lustworthy print and heels she wore during her pregnancy! Hilary Duff is another example of ‘maternity chic’ at it’s best, as the 24-year-old starlet was seen in nothing less than bright blazers, killer heels and snap-worthy sunglasses throughout her pregnancy with baby Luca! Well, for all you expectant mums out there, pick up a style tip or two from your A-list bump-carrying counterparts, and check out the fabulous maternity range at Isabella Oliver – Kristin Cavallari, pictured above in the Ruched Tank Dress, is a big fan! With everything from stylish dresses to comfortable loungewear and jackets, the maternity collection will ensure you remain fashionably kitted out during your pregnancy. Our favourite hair trends from the Met Gala 2012!

OK, so we gave you a run-down of some of our personal best dressed celebs at the 2012 Met Gala, but now it’s time to go beyond the dresses and check out the all-important hair choices. We were mesmerised by some of the hairstyles on the Met Gala red carpet, so we decided to put together a short list of some of our favourites. We all know that a good hairstyle is just as important as finding the right matching accessories and getting the make-up spot on too. Coco Rocha’s pretty pink extensions Coco Rocha’s pink curls were the first thing we saw in regards to this year’s Met Gala, as she showed all her Twitter followers a teaser pic… and we weren’t disappointed when she revealed her full look either. We applaud Coco for going for something bold and daring in both the hair and wardrobes stakes, and her fashion risks definitely paid off. Elsa Schiaparelli would 100% approve of all that pink! Jessica Alba and Lea Michele’s vintage Hollywood waves Jessica Alba was one of our best dressed ladies of the entire evening… she looked the epitome of Hollywood glamour in her golden Michael Kors dress, and her loose, ultra-glam side-swept waves complemented her look perfectly. Lea Michele also went for the old Hollywood look, choosing to wear her brown locks in a loose bob, contributing to her utterly flawless look. Beyonce’s sleek ponytail We love a good, sleek, low pony-tail… it’s a great alternative to the ballroom-style bun that we see so often at these high glam events. Perfect for adding some modern elegance to an otherwise very formal look. Queen Bey works the low pony like a pro! Ashley Greene and Diane Kruger’s fuss-free tresses Even though we love it when celebs mix it up on […]
