First it was Burberry beau Emma Watson, then it was an albeit less ambitious Nicole Richie, and now it’s the turn of Anne Hathaway – everywhere we look the A-listers are chopping their hair off, and the quaintly-classic actress is the latest to submit to the scissors.

Anne’s usually long, bouncing brunette locks have been snipped to leave a natural-looking 60s-style pixie crop – but eyes that big and a smile that wide can carry it off with ease, in case you were wondering.

Ever the dedicated damsel, her new ‘do is all down to her latest role in the film One Day – an adaptation of the book by the same name that, according to Elle UK, is a must-read, so we’re assuming movie’s a must-see, too – in which she plays a girl named Emma.

We’re getting quite used to seeing Anne with different hair – she chopped it into a bob for her role in Rachel Getting Married and sported an ice-blonde style for Alce in Wonderland, don’t forget – but her latest look is our favourite by far, though she does have a touch of Audrey Tautou about her now, non?

If you want hair advice from this stars this season, it seems the style-du-jour is short.

Audrey Tautou becomes the “incarnation of French chic” in new movie ‘Coco Before Chanel’.

The actress plays legendary French designer Coco Chanel in the film, and director and co-writer Anne Fontaine has revealed the crew went to great pains to ensure Audrey embodied her during the film.

She said: “Chanel was different. Chanel turned this difference into a fundamental asset, though it must have been a terrible suffering for her. We worked on that transformation with Audrey. At first, she appears as a little peasant girl, unpolished with a beehive hairstyle – then, we see how her style clashes with the other women only to become, in the last part of the movie, the incarnation of French chic.”

Anne revealed Karl Lagerfeld, who is head designer and creative director of Chanel, was pleased with the decision to cast Audrey, and also helped ensure the costumes worked by allowing the movie to use some pieces from the label.

She added to seenit.co.uk: “In the final sequence, all the dresses come from the Conservatory of Chanel. I met Karl Lagerfeld several times. We showed him the sketches of the clothes my costume designer was making. When Karl saw pictures of Audrey Tautou, he told me she was the only ‘true Chanel’. We collaborated in a very natural way with the Maison Chanel.”

Audrey Tautou is more interested in Coco Chanel’s past than her style.

The French actress – who plays the legendary French designer in new film ‘Coco Avant Chanel‘ – is fascinated by Coco’s life and loved being able to portray her on the big screen.

She said: “I’ve always loved Chanel’s style but I was more interested in her character than the fashion. Her life is so rich, and her personality so unusual, that the story of her life is far greater than simply being a story of fashion. And I wanted to discover what lay behind the facade.”

Audrey – who is also the face of Chanel No5 perfume – admits there were many sides to the designer, claiming he would often “contradict” herself.

She told Britain’s Telegraph newspaper: “She was such a complex character, and full of contradictions. And she told so many lies about her past – huge, enormous lies – so that you can only understand her life little by little.”

Coco, who died in 1971 at the age of 87, was one of the most important figures in 20th century fashion. Her menswear-inspired designs, which were renowned for their expensive simplicity, are some of the most sought after clothes in the world.

Coco Chanel is having quite a year. With two biopics out this year, starring two of the most beautiful women playing her; Audrey Tautou and Anna Mouglalis. She would no doubt be rather flattered.

Audrey Tautou’s film titled ‘Coco avant Chanel’ follows the life of the queen of fashion, while Anna Mouglalis plays Coco in a film about her affair with Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, called ‘Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky’. So for fashion lovers, this summer will be a dream come true.

‘Coco Chanel & Igor Stravkinsky’ closed Cannes film festival, and so of course Mouglalis had to make sure that she wore an outfit to remember. But never fear, Karl Lagerfeld was on hand.

Lagerfeld created the emerald gown in homage to Ava Gardner who Lagerfeld feels Mouglalis resembles. It is a striking colour and has a very silver screen siren feel to it. The giant bow is fun yet elegant, the hem line is a little strange, but overall it is a beautiful gown. Mouglalis has in effect been in training for Chanel for eight years, since she became a muse for the fashion house, she told WWD:

“I got to spend so much time in (Chanel’s) apartment, I took siestas on her canape – filled her ashtray.”

It must be very exciting to get the opportunity to play Coco Chanel, for she truly was an inspirational and complex woman. But with the two films on the horizon, who do you think will play Coco the best?
