When Good Bags Go Wrong!

marcjacobsmeshlacebag.jpgWho was it that said “less is more,” or to rephrase, that “more is just more?” Whomever it was, word does not seem to have reached the bag design team at Marc Jacobs and now Chloe. While Marc seemingly did the impossible and created something truly garish in his ‘bag on a bag’ um, bag, Chloe just tossed a lot of flap/buckle clasps onto this clutch.

Articles: The Search for the Perfect Bag

I woke up one dark winter morning earlier this year and decided then and there that I had to become the owner of a soft, leather designer bag. No longer would my black £35 patent M&S holdall suffice in my new job (it’s fashion daaaahhling). Now, this could have something to do with the fact that I had only recently overheard a conversation about handbags in the blonde and beautiful corner of my office that went something along the lines of: “£500 for a bag is an absolute bargain, I mean my Balenciaga cost, like, more than a grand”. Enough said – I had some serious catching up to do.

It Bags: Mulberry Mabel Madness!

I think the unwritten rule is that if you see more than three hot Tinseltown “it girls” photographed carrying the same purse, it automatically becomes the next “it bag.” So when the likes of Kate Bosworth, Lindsay Lohan, Kate Moss and Sienna Miller were all seen out and about toting a version of the Mulberry’s Mabel satchel since it was debuted last year, lightbulbs went off in fashionistas’ heads everywhere, and the hunt for a Mabel of their own quickly ensued.

Lately, I’ve been into bags. Normally I see pretty handbags and swoon over how lovely they are, but never really think of buying them for myself (if only because they’re like, ridiculously expensive). I am a big fan of Herve Chapelier bags. They are my default carry-on tote whenever I fly anywhere, the clean lines and wide array of colours ensure that they compliment any outfit, (and the amount of stuff I can fit into one makes me feel like a 21st-century Mary Poppins, if she had a laptop).

How excited are we? VERY! As I run around trying to get all the latest gossip and runway reviews I will be carrying my trusted, sturdy oversized bag, which manages to contain everything from my laptop to my notepad and a gazillion magazines, without breaking a sweat!

At just £26 (approx $50) it was a bargain purchase from Spitafields market. The designer of the bag was really lovely, her name is Sarwat and her label is called SPDR. I wanted every single bag from the collection which can also be found at Anthropologie.

Right…stay tuned for lots of fashion week coverage!

The Fenchurch Bottletop Bag

If ethical fashion is the new black, then the Bottletop bag definitely falls into the cool category. Resulting from a collaboration between UK charity Bottletop and cult brand Fenchurch, the bags are made entirely of recycled bottletops and constructed by women working in co-operative art groups in Brazil, with 100% of profits going straight to work done by Bottletop.

Although the style itself may match every ensemble you put together, the unique construction and materials are sure to be a conversation starter.

Metallics are great because they go with everything—you can dress up jeans, or add a bit of glam to an otherwise plain black dress. If you’re in the market, this gold clutch by the Magnes sisters may be just what you’re looking for.

Just large enough to hold your evening essentials, yet small enough to balance comfortably in your hand, this clutch is a pretty alternative to the many other varieties of tiny metallic bags floating around.

Sometimes stylish bags don’t always come with a hefty price tag. Take for example this cognac, crushed leather tote from Clarks. At just $165, its guilt free, gorgeous and surprisingly spacious. We also love the fact that it can either be used as a tote or a shoulder bag. Just attach or detach the strap and you’re good to go!
