If you’re looking for a new coffee table tome, this will get you green points, too – People Tree, the industry’s leading ethical clothing company, has just launched a brand new book on fair trade fashion.

We popped down the book’s launch at John Lewis during High Street Fashion Week, along with London’s finest fashion press, to catch up with Safia Minney, People Tree’s founder, and the lovely team at John Lewis to find out what Naked Fashion – The New Sustainable Fashion Revolution is about.

“Naked Fashion aims to take ethical fashion to the masses, presenting fashion as a tool which can be used to protect people and the planet,” says Safia, dressed in an eye-popping pink Fifties-style dress from her own label.

Her goal? “That there will come a time where Fair Trade no longer has to exist, because everything in fashion will be Fair Trade,” she told us.

And so, she brings us a book that’s not only fascinating and insightful, but wonderfully educational and, at times, harrowing. It’s packed with punchy stories, stats and studies, and shopping suggestions that aim to educate the reader towards an alternative approach to fashion – as well as a load of pictures that say what the rest can’t.

Safia’s humble, of course, as she insists this is all down to the wonderful workers in Bangladesh, her incredible co-team and inspiring contributors, but we don’t believe her, actually. The work Safia is doing to create one of the most successful ethical fashion brands is nothing short of extraordinary, though we do take her point: the breadth of contributors in this book – from journalists to stylists, designers to ethical entrepreneurs and influential fashion faces – is bound to bring a roused readership from each angle.

And it’s for that reason we’ve yet to put it down. So, if you’re wondering how to spend your Sunday, may we suggest snuggling up on the sofa with a copy of Naked Fashion for a spot of relevant reading?

Many previous biography’s have tried to delve into the mysterious life of iconic fashion designer Coco Chanel, but the latest literary testament is said to have unearthed some pretty astonishing new details about the lady herself.

The release of Coco Chanel: An Intimate Life – which is out November 10th this year – has been written by biographer Lisa Chaney, who claims to have concrete evidence that Chanel used drugs, embraced bisexuality, and had an affair with Salvador Dali while he was married.

Lisa also received an email from her publicist stating she had accessed documents in the Swiss Federal Archives that prove Chanel’s German lover Hans Gunther von Dincklage spied for the Nazis throughout World War II, but whether she was aware of this is unkown, reports Fashionologie.

This is one book we have to get our hands on….

Grace Coddington is known to many as the beloved creative director at Vogue US, but as recent rumours go, the fashion big shot has reportedly just sold her memoir to Random House for an estimated $1.2 million.

Which is a pretty impressive some of money, if you ask us.

News began to circulate that Grace was writing a memoir way back in August last year, when she made this statement to WWD: “I’m hoping it’s going to be very rich in fashion history. It’s more than just about me.”

The memoir will mark the second book Coddington has put together over the years, the first being 2002′s coffee table book “Grace: Thirty Years of Fashion at Vogue,” which Fielden helped to write, reports Fashionista.

We hope this memoir doesn’t spell the end of Grace’s 23 year career at Vogue….

For a long time I believed that there were two types of elegant women, conveniently classified into two Hepburn camps – the Audreys and the Katherines.

The Audrey’s believe in a ladylike elegance – one that requires maintenance and skinniness and Givenchy – while the Katherines edge towards the tomboy with masculine tailoring, insouciance and wit in both their bearing and their clothing.

One is about presentation, the other about comfort. Thankfully I grew out of that belief and realised there was room for both in everyone’s wardrobe, including both Hepburn’s. Most women today unconsciously adopt styles from both of these Hollywood icons, blurring the lines between ladylike and tomboy just as they did both on and off screen.

Audrey’s tomboy-ish, although still breathtakingly elegant, moments may not be hugely familiar to those who have only seen her in My Fair Lady and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. But she seriously rocked the black polo neck and loafers look in Funny Face and this new chronicle of Audrey’s magazine covers showcases a surprising range of looks.

A lot has been written about Audrey’s style over the years, and especially at the moment with an upcoming auction of her clothes at Sotheby’s tomorrow. This book adds little to what we have already been told about her personal style, showing her mainly in photocall mode during press junkets for her various films. To be honest she still shines brightest as Holly Golightly.

However for die hard fans this will be a treat, as many of these 600 images haven’t been since since they were first published.

Arranged chronologically to tie in with each of Audrey’s film releases, each chapter offers a short biographical introduction by writer and archivist Scott Brizel for whom this book appears to have been something of a labour of love. It’s just a shame he has little fresh insight to offer as the images have been sensitively presented and would otherwise offer a fitting tribute to a much loved style icon.

London based photographer Chris Craymer is launching his new book ‘Romance’ and will be exhibiting his work in Mulberry stores across the world. The New York exhibition opened last week with a party that included a pink photo booth and vast quantities of chocolate kisses as well as a GB flag cake and a silent auction to raise money for the CFDA.

The book is quirky and fun, and the images are gorgeous. Speaking about the ‘Romance’ Craymer said:

“I wanted to find subjects that allowed me to make emotional images, not intellectual ones, I hope the book gave people a happy feeling because that’s what I like to feel when I look at people.

The collaboration with Craymer follows previously successful collaborations with the likes of illustrator Julie Verhoeven, Cutler & Gross, McQueen’s Floral School as well as numerous others. Each store will display images from ‘Romance’ and a silent auction will be held in every city. A limited edition version will be sold at each event that will include and signed and numbered print for £150.

Romance is priced at, £35 ($50) and will be available in Mulberry stores and leading book shops. The exhibition will take place in London on 20th May, Paris 8th July and Hong Kong 27th August.
