We’ll level with you, we love Mulberry. So, when we saw superstar Rihanna carrying the label’s latest quilted Alexa in Deer Brown from the AW11 collection on vacation in the South of France this week, we applauded the singer for yet another on-trend style choice.

The What’s My Name singer worked the satchel with an ethnic-inspired maxi skirt, strapless top and statement necklace, proving that working laid-back chic for an everyday look comes as naturally to the superstar as shaking her behind.

We can just about spot a pair of fabulous pumps peeking out from underneath that printed skirt, too. If, however, you’re not accustomed to working the heady heights of the heel in the day (especially when it comes to negotiating cobbles), don’t panic – we reckon a pair of this season’s metallic sandals will work just as well.

The Royalty of fashion paid their last respects to the late designer Alexander McQueen in an eye catching parade of his designs and creations.

And standing out from the crowd in this moving ceremony held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London, was Sex and the City beauty Sarah Jessica Parker. Causing a stir the actress opted for a cream layered dress. She paired her frock with a stunning black frocked coat from McQueen’s preview: Spring/Summer 2011 Collection.

Parker chose a pair of fitting buckled up stilletos and a statement clutch bag from McQueens’s very last collection.

Looking beautiful as ever SJP topped off her look with her hair scraped back into a high bun and a white flower to top finish it off.

We think Sarah Jessica Parker did Alexander McQueen very proud. This really was the perfect tribute to a very talented man.

Fashion has played host to a full-fledged face-off between models and celebrities throughout the last decade: which breed gets the coveted campaigns? For a while it was the 90s supers, then it soon became the A-list elite – but perhaps its time for the supermodels to reign supreme once more.

Or so think designers, anyway.

YSL’s Stefano Pilati, for one, is ditching the celebs – “what I need to focus on is an attitude, and this comes from a great, experienced model,” he says – along with Gucci‘s Frida Giannini. “I think it’s a very contemporary approach,” says Frida, having picked Raquel Zimmermann to front the luxury labels latest campaign. “The other issue with celebrities is that they are characters who are often associated with a certain film. I prefer a strong, generic face that’s not related to any world — whether that be music or Hollywood.”

And Karl Lagerfeld agrees, mainly because, according to Grazia, there aren’t so many celebrities around at the moment (with the exception of Vanessa Paradis). “A change was needed,” he said. “Celebrities want to do their own lines, their fragrances, which sometimes works for a short time.”

But it clearly doesn’t work for Karl – he’s shooting new Chanel fave Freja Beha Erichsen at the moment. “I just think she is the most modern girl and the most elegant person,” he enthused, adding that he loves models because “they have the right look and class.”

Seems like fashion could be bidding farewell to Hollywood’s finest for a while.

Only last week we reported just how much designers are willing to pay the most style-savvy stars to appear in their front row, but it appears one designer is altogether over the idea. Marc Jacobs is ditching A-list stars in his front row , for good.

As New York Fashion Week kicked off with a bang yesterday, fashion cast it’s eye over to the front rows to see which stylish celebrities it could spy, but they won’t spot any at Marc Jacobs’ AW10 show.

The American designer, who in previous years has seen everyone from the likes of BFF Victoria Beckham to Lady Gaga in his front row, is foregoing the idea of ‘celebrity’ altogether.

“I’m not into the celebrity thing like we used to, he told the New York Post’s Page Six. “That’s boring.

He doesn’t do backstage passes, either. Last year when Madonna popped backstage after his SS10 show, things were a little awkward to say the least. “She came backstage, and I was like, ‘What do you do with her now?’ Because it’s not like she was invited.

Ouch.

In light of the Selfridges exhibition on the decade, last week we announced that the nineties are officially back in fashion, and in true nineties style it seems that the trend for supermodels is well and truly on the up.

Models are indeed reigning supreme at the moment as Versace revealed Georgia May Jagger as the new face of its campaign, and knitwear label St John opted to give the brand a fresh feel replacing Angelina Jolie with model Karen Elson.

But not all fashion houses are bowing to the model trend as last week Armani revealed the pictures from its SS10 underwear and jeans campaign, which stars a sizzling Megan Fox.

The 20-year-old socialite – who has just created her own fashion range for designers PPQ – insists her style has nothing to do with attracting the opposite sex and admits her look is “weird”.

She said:

“It’s obvious I’m not dressing for men. I don’t want to be sexy, I’m, like, covered in tattoos. I have piercings. I’m just grungy and weird and not what is socially accepted as being beautiful, and I think that’s cool. I think anti-beauty is amazing. I don’t want to dress for men, I think it’s almost like a feminist thing.”

Peaches – daughter of Sir Bob Geldof and the late Paula Yates – also slated fellow celebrities who try to conform to society’s idea of beauty.

She added to Britain’s The Times newspaper: “Women on the covers of magazines are airbrushed to within an inch of their lives. They have veneers, and fake t*ts and fake tans and they’re talking about their fake marriages and their fake lives.”
