No good for me gives her take on the SJP interview with Cathy Horyn.

Enough is enough

Actress SARAH JESSICA PARKER has launched a crusade to cover up young America with her new cheap-chic clothing line Bitten. The former Sex + The City star’s new Steve + Barry line of affordable womenswear features only conservative attire - because the actress is tired of seeing young girls baring almost all…….”There’s not going to be any inappropriate midriff showing, regardless of your age. I really don’t care for it. I feel like, as a culture, we have seen enough damage done by it. It’s provocative in a way that I just don’t feel comfortable with.”

Erm o.k… this revelation comes after Sarah Jessica Parker enjoyed a high level of success from a show which was far from conservative. I’ve gnerally tried to stay away from the SJP for Steve and Barry’s relationship and try to avoid posting too often about the other celebrity lines which keep cropping up mainly because I have no interest in them. I believe what is actually damaging for us as a culture is all these damn celebrity collections! Designers for the high street I can somewhat understand, we’re buying into the design which is good enough for me and as much as I sometimes have my reservations about the partnerships, I fully accept the argument for them and I’m willing to accept that my qualms are based on unreasonable emotion.

But celebrities for the high street and celebrity labels, need to be stopped. I’m all for affordable fashion, my wardrobe would be empty without it, but what I find distasteful is the mass hysteria which surrounds the idea that a collection of clothes is only as worthy as the celebrity persona that is attached to it. I pity the next generation who soon enough will only associate and make their fashion choices based on their celebrity preference. For me the final straw of this epidemic came with Kate Moss -who has apparently raked in over £3m with her line – for Topshop.

Does the neckline on this dress of Kate Moss with Johnny Depp look familiar to you?

It did to me too….it bares a striking resemblance to a piece from her collection due to hit stores soon.

While perusing an amazing second hand book shop in Notting hill last Monday I came across a biography of Johnny Depp and being the fan that I am it would have been a sin not to flick through. Well lo and behold one of them pictured him with Kate, both looking effortlessly cool. (see above). Mouth open, I couldn’t believe that Topshop had blatantly copied the design of this dress. I understand the collection is intended to imitate Kate’s sense of style but surely Topshop are credible enough to not have to shamelessly copy the design of this neckline so obviously. Does anyone know who the designer of the original is and what year this picture was taken?

Topshop gives us a sneaky peek into the design process behind the collaboration with Kate Moss and for someone who’s spent their life in front of the camera Kate seems quite uncomfortable and shy. I have to admit I’ve been quite impressed at the pieces from the collection which I’ve seen so far. My favourite for the moment is the blue tuxedo from the Vogue shoot….

Her sense of style has been praised many times over but can Sarah Jessica Parker pull off her own fashion line? Well Ms Parker believes she can and yesterday presented pieces from her new line “Bitten” over lunch in a private viewing for a selection of top fashion editors.

Capitalizing on the success of Sex and the City, t-shirts within the affordable range will feature lines from the show, whilst the rest of the collection compromises accessories, swimwear and footwear as well as clothing all incorporated within four divisions of the range, Classics, Trend, Lounge and Casual.

Bitten is available from June 7th at Steve & Barrys

“Scarlett hearts Rbk” but do you heart “Scarlett hearts Rbk”? Can’t say I’m really a fan of the footwear.

This season has got to be the most overloaded in terms of high street collaborations, it feels like I’m constantly writing about one partnership or another and yet I’ve never purchased an item from any of them. I’ve never done the whole queuing for ages outside a store or getting on to e-bay to purchase left over stock. Neither have I made a purchase from a celebrity label, but that’s just because I’m irrationally snobbish about celebrity lines. I wonder if I’m one of the minority or the majority. Having said that if - that’s a big IF because it’s unlikely to ever happen - Johnny Depp teamed up with a high street retailer I’d be there sleeping outside the store a week before launch date. Just kidding….I’d only do that for the master that is Galliano!

Anyway….back to the matter at hand…the first of the pictures from the campaign -shot by Steven Klein - for Madonna’s new line for H&M, “M” by Madonna has surfaced. What do guys think? For me it hasn’t exceeded my expectations, because I had none, but it isn’t disappointing either. I like the futuristic feel of the shot and the glasses aren’t too bad at all.
